I can’t do this.” Rebecca assured us that artistic talent was not a requirement; but, being in community was. Our fears eased, she explained what we were to do. A foot of pristine space was in front of each of us. We were given 30 seconds to paint whatever we wanted to paint: I started to draw a star, others made hearts, dots, cir- cles, and so on. At the end of 30 seconds, we were calmly directed to move one space to right and add to or even paint over what was in front of us for another 30 seconds. We then moved to the right and repeated. There were 16 spaces so we continued around the table for 30 seconds at each spot, stopping only once about midway through the process to assess our progress. At first I was anxious. I had yellow paint; I didn’t want to get it smeared into the red or blue and have my color blunted or disappear. However, I quickly figured out that a little smearing was fine, and if I went thick enough, I could main- tain the yellow. There wasn’t really time to paint a picture, only to augment the design in front of me. This is exactly the point of our “TTT Discipleship Campaign” this year. We all have Time, Talent, and Treasures to share – even when we think we don’t. But when we throw our fears to the wind, and step out in faith, with the biggest requirement being our partic- ipation, amazing and beautiful things happen.

FROM THE PASTOR

I recently attended a Newton Presbytery-sponsored clergy gathering on “The Art of Ministry.” It was led by the presbytery’s Resource Coordinator, Rev. Stefanie Muntzel and the pastor of the Beacon Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Rev. Rebecca Blake. The two of them shared ways to access your congregation’s creativity and we participated in a wide variety of artistic projects: I threw pottery and walked the outdoor labyrinth. We made col-lages and worshipped under the stars.

Our final group activity was to paint a banner together. We gathered around a long sheet of prepared canvas. Each of us had a small Dixie cup filled with various hues of primary colors: blues, reds, and yellows and one white. Many folks cried out, “But I’m not artistic! I can’t do this.” Rebecca assured us that artistic talent was not a requirement; but, being in community was. Our fears eased, she explained what we were to do.

A foot of pristine space was in front of each of us. We were given 30 seconds to paint whatever we wanted to paint: I started to draw a star, others made hearts, dots, cir-cles, and so on.

However, I quickly figured out that a little smearing was fine, and if I went thick enough, I could main-tain the yellow. There wasn’t really time to paint a picture, only to augment the design in front of me.

Those who had com-plained that they weren’t artistic were soon able to see that to dot around an existing pattern or blend with what was in front of them required no par-ticular gift. When we

were done, the result was spectacular. As a community, we had made something incredibly beautiful and creative and different than any of us could or would have made alone.

This is exactly the point of our “TTT Discipleship Campaign” this year. We all have Time, Talent, and Treasures to share – even when we think we don’t. NOTICE OF ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - PART I

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2017

Notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting - Part I of the Congregation and Religious Corporation of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich Township, in the County of Warren, will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017, immediately following the 10 am Service of Worship.

The purpose of this meeting is to: hear the report of the Nominating Committee Nominees for the offices of Elder, Deacon and the 2017 Nominating Committee will be presented vote on said report

Attest:

Jennifer Miller, Clerk of Session Rev. Rebecca Segers, Pastor – Moderator

The TTT Team’s goal this year is full participation. Not a number or amount, but rather that each and every one of you go through the Take Out menu included here in your Breezeway (or the one you will re-ceive in worship on Sunday, November 5), fill it out and return it. We are stronger together, able to make a difference in community. Or as we are told in the Bible: “Let us consider how we may spur one another on to-ward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” – Hebrews 10:24-25a

WOMEN’S FUN NITE

The OGPC Women’s Fun Group got off to a different start this past month, as we gathered to do glass fusing at Gone Paintin’ in Flemington. Not only did we have a great time, we made some beautiful pieces – check out the photos for yourself! However, we haven’t planned our year, so that opportunity will happen on the first Mon-day of the month, November 4. Sign up in the Memorial Hall, telling us of the dish you’ll bring to share, and then join us at 6:30 pm as we have what is sure to be a delicious meal, and plan the year ahead.

Candi Nagy stops to share a smile in the midst of her creative process.

The ladies are hard at work on their creations.

A few of the participants: (l to r) Alice Jones, Annie Stetler, Pastor Rebecca, Heather Todd and Candi Nagy.

The annual Old Greenwich ADVENT POT LUCK LUNCHEON will be held on Sunday, December 10, in Memorial Hall, following the worship service.

Congregational Life will be heading up this festive event again, providing a great opportunity for a church family get-together in a warm social setting. There will be a sign-up sheet in Memorial Hall starting November 12 for you to indicate what you would like to bring to the luncheon. We also ask volunteers to help with set-up and clean-up. This is always a wonderful church family event. We hope you can join us! - submitted by Anita Campbell

BULLETIN BOARD

Need a gift card for a birthday, anniversary, wedding gift, holiday gift, grocery shopping, or just for per-sonal shopping so you don’t have to carry cash? The Chancel Choir takes orders for gift cards on the first Sunday of each month and they are delivered to you at church the following week. You get the full value of the card you order, but the company gives the choir a small fee for each card sold, so you are sup-porting the mission of the choir without spending any additional money! You can see the hundreds of cards that are available at www.shopwithscrip.com or just ask organist, Tom DiGiovanni, or Cathy Ahart, any Sunday morning at the church. They will tell you how to register, or will even order the cards for you! Your check may be made out to the OGPC Chancel Choir. The funds raised support the annual commu-nity choral workshop and concert.

Dear OGPC Family,

I am currently rehearsing a musical at Lafayette enti-tled “The Drowsy Chaperone”. It's really funny, and is less than two hours in length. Lots of slapstick, wordplay, physical comedy, and vaudeville style gags. Unofficially rated PG (the word “pornography” is used, and the line “pisses me off” is heard.)

Performances: Thursday, Nov 2 @ 7:30 pm Friday, Nov 3 @ 7:30 pm Saturday, Nov 4 @ 2:00 pm Saturday, Nov 4 @ 7:30 pm Sunday, Nov 5 @ 2:00 pm

Tickets are $10/ $5 for students (of any age)

I'm sorry that I can't get tickets for you, but if you'd like to check it out, follow this link! https://lafayette.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx?cid=162

Let me know if you are coming so I can look out for you! Thanks, Tom DiGiovanni

THE GIVING TREE

Share the spirit of God’s love by providing Christmas gifts and food for those less fortunate. Gift tags may be selected from our annual Giving Tree which will be in the Green Room on Sunday, November, 19.

Wrapped gifts, with tags attached, and non-perishable food should be brought to Memorial Hall by Sunday, December 10; perishable food items on Sunday, December 17 and NOT before, please.

Frozen turkey donations will be gratefully accepted and freezer space pro-vided. Monetary donations will also be welcome to help brighten Christmas for some of our own church members who are having financial difficulties. Be sure to make a stop at the tree following the worship service to select gift tags while they’re available!

May you experience the warmth of the season as you share the joy of giving with others!

PRESBYTERIAN DEPOT DOINGS

Old Greenwich is one of the founding members of the Presbyterian Depot. Along with Oxford Second, Pil-grim, Stewartsville, and Westminster, we have devel-oped a “store” for those folks who are transitioning from being homeless into having a place to live. This store is focused on new kitchen items to help people start out with a fully stocked kitchen in which they can choose what they need and even the colors they like.

We hadn’t had any clients even though the Depot has been open for business for a while, so at our last meet-ing, we made a few tweaks. We cast our net more broadly, adding more agencies to the list that may use our service. We also developed an Order Form and video so that potential clients can see what we’ve got available. The storage facility is on site at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Chet Penza of West-minster and our own Lisa Gray as facilitators. When an individual or family is moving into a new apartment or home, they may watch the video that shows what we’ve got and complete an Order Form for Chet or Lisa to fill for delivery, or they may make an appoint-ment to meet Chet or Lisa at the site and make their own choices in person.

This new system yielded fruit, as we served our first family this past month – a single mother with four children. We are so grateful to be making a positive difference in our community, and hope to serve more individuals and families in the days and weeks ahead. Don’t be surprised when Lisa and the Depot host an-other Kitchen Shower in the late winter or early spring to supplement our Presbyterian Depot store!

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS

Remember to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday, November 4, before going to bed.
