THE BOX SCORE APRIL 2010 OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS SEASON TICKET HOLDERS SEASON TICKET HOLDER MESSAGE To Be or Not To Be… To be a Season Ticket Holder of the Arizona Diamondbacks means many different things to us. I am sure if you asked all of the Season Ticket Holders this same question, you may get a wide variety of answers, but the one constant among everyone would be that their answers came from the heart! 2005 presented itself with the opportunity to purchase some games from a co-worker and I thought, what a great way to get back into baseball. About halfway through the season I found myself wanting to go to more and more games, so in 2006 I purchased a Half Season package with one of my best friends. Now it’s 2010 and we have had a full season for a few years - Section 140, Row 12, Seats 11&12. We absolutely love it! For us, it doesn’t mean just one thing, but rather many. It means being successful enough in life to afford season tickets. It means we are part of something we’ve wanted since the D-backs first came to town. It means making old friendships stronger and making new ones almost every game. It means bonding time with the family, and catching up on life and the more important lessons we learn everyday as a child. It means opening our son’s eyes to the many rules of baseball, sportsmanship and life. It means supporting a team day-in and day-out, win or lose, good or bad. It means so many things, but most importantly, it means being part of something so much greater then just ourselves; it means being part of a team! Baseball is so much more than just a sport. It gives me the chance to share something with my fiancé and her son that I shared with my parents as a child; a love that was passed on to me and now in turn to them. It is a symbol of summer, sun and warmth. It is a lesson in faith, family and friendship. It is youth revisited every time you walk into the ballpark thinking about the first game you went to see with your parents. It is anticipation at the start of every spring; will our team make it to October or will summer end short and not-so sweet in September? Baseball is so much more then just a sport, it’s a way of life! SEASON TICKET HOLDER MESSAGETo Be or Not To Be…

To be a Season Ticket Holder of the Arizona Diamondbacks means many different things to us. WHAT THEy’RE SAyINGSI.com— Jon HeymanIf Webb is back to being the pitcher who fin-ished in the top three in Cy Young voting three straight times, they will have one of the best tops to any rotation in baseball, right there with the Cardinals, Mariners and Red Sox. Dan Haren, who will start Opening Day, looks primed for an-other big season after leading the majors with a 1.00 WHIP in 2009.

ESPN— Rob NeverA deal like (Justin Upton’s) accomplishes two things. It locks up a great young player at a reasonable cost and it relieves the organization from having to devote any brainpower to figuring out what Upton will cost and who’s going to play right field. This is essentially the best way that a baseball franchise can spend its money.

CBS Sportsline— Jon HeymanIf Brandon Webb comes back strong, as the Diamondbacks expect, Webb, Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson will make Arizona one of only six teams in the majors to boast three All-Stars in its starting rotation. The other five are the Cubs, Giants, Phillies, Red Sox and Yankees.

SEASON TICKET HOLDER SPOTLIGHT

Q - How long have you been a Season Ticket Holder? A - I have been a Season Ticket Holder since day one, the summer

of 1998 and have attended every home game including Playoff and World Series games. I hope I continue to be fortunate and have the ability to continue, you can call me the Cal Ripken fan of the game.

Q - Favorite aspect of being a Season Ticket Holder? A - The luxury of attending all the Diamondbacks home games!

I enjoy sitting in the same area among fellow Season Ticket Holders who have become my “baseball family”. We enjoy the game, sharing stories and we always have a great time full of smiles and laughs, win or lose.

Q - Aside from winning the World Series in 2001, what is your favorite D-backs memory?

A - There are countless memories: Opening Day against the Rockies, Gonzo continuing his huge homerun streak at the end of a Marlins game, Jay Bell winning a fan one million dollars, Randy Johnson striking out 20 batters in a game, being in San Francisco in 1999 to witness the D-backs clinching the division for the first time, etc. The truth; my greatest Diamondbacks memory is the happiness and rewarding experience I was fortunate to have with my daughter Courtney growing up and joining me in attendance. We have a close fun loving bond that was nurtured around the game of baseball at BOB/Chase Field and on the road at other MLB stadiums. There is nothing more special.

Q - If you were a D-backs player, what position would you play and what would your intro song be? A - If I were a baseball player I would be playing the hot corner of third base and my introduction song would be

“Paradise” by the Dashboard Light.

Q - Who is your favorite D-backs player? A - This is a tough question because I am a fan of the game; the entire team. It takes every player’s contribution to

succeed. Since I have to choose one, I would say Mark Reynolds because of his leadership last year, his passion and commitment to play hard at the plate and in the infield. He has a true spirit of winning and his proven leadership did improve the attitude & performance of his teammates for a period of time. I also look forward to seeing if he develops into the Hall of Fame caliber of Michael Jack Schmidt, as predicted, and he is in a Diamondbacks uniform.

Q - Favorite Rivalry? A - My favorite rivalry is when the Diamondbacks host the Los Angeles Dodgers. The attendance at Chase Field

increases; the Dodgers fans come in with attitude and the intention of taking over our home. It is then when the Diamondbacks fans step it up, cheer louder, heckle back and exude the passion for the team and the game. The “passion” that I grew up with as an East Coast baseball fan which is invigorating! I love it.

Q - Day game vs. night game? A - No doubt about this one, I prefer night games.

Q - Roof open or closed? A - Personally, I prefer the roof open because it gives me the sensation of old-time traditional baseball.
