In the year 2010, Apple was the reigning king of the apps, as it generated $1.8 billion in revenue.

The whole mobile app market in general saw an increase by 160.2 percent in its global revenue, to reach $2.2 billion- a hike from $828 million in 2009.

The report further also highlighted various factors that helped in the growth ofthe mobile application market. It streamed the lowered cost mobile data plans,a growing adoption of smartphones, improvements to native applications' usability and the ability for publishers to offer free and low-cost apps supported by ads as main factors for the growth among others.

So in coming few years, the mobile app market is going to grow at a steady rate.
