Set to follow on the success of last year’s meeting, which saw record attendance, TREB’s 2017 Annual

Meeting will feature no shortage of riv-eting new content that’ll keep you in the know of the latest developments shaping our organization, industry and economy – so be sure to mark your calendars for October 26.

This year’s lineup will include an exciting and informative keynote address from CIBC’s Deputy Chief Economist and Managing Director,

Benjamin Tal, who will speak on the New Economic Reality.

You will also have the opportunity to meet your 2017/2018 Board of Directors, and hear remarks from TREB CEO John DiMichele and TREB President Tim Syrianos who will speak on the current market as well as what’s in store for TREB in the year ahead.

Not to mention, you’ll have your first glimpse at TREB’s Year in Review vid-eo and have the opportunity to pick up

a printed copy of TREB’s 2016/2017 Annual Report.

To complement the main event, there will be a newly expanded trade show, which will include plenty of exhibitors featured at REALTOR® QUEST. It’s also a great place to connect with likeminded real estate professionals and Members of the Board.

One lucky attendee will have the chance to receive a free 2018/2019 TREB Membership in our Text and Win draw.

Set to take place at the Toronto Congress Centre (650 Dixon Road), attendees will enjoy access to free parking and a compli-mentary continental breakfast and lunch.

October 26: Exciting Lineup at TREB’s Annual Meeting

November 1: REBBA Focus GroupsOn November 1, TREB will be

hosting two focus groups to ob- tain Member Feedback on re-

forms to the Real Estate Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA 2002). It’s an impor-tant piece of legislation for our industry as it regulates how you trade in real estate.

Attending a session will give you the unique opportunity to voice your con-

cerns with the existing legislation as well as to discuss opportunities for modern-izing it. Your feedback will also guide TREB and industry submissions, which will be issued in early 2018.

You’ll also benefit from a great chance to meet and network with like-minded colleagues, including mem-bers of TREB’s Government Relations

Committee and staff.

Space is still available in our morning session. For more information, or to register, visit e-Commerce.

Can’t Attend? Visit REBBAreform.ca and submit feedback on the first two white papers, which focus on enforce-ment and RECO, and continuing educa-tion, respectively.

The Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) is pleased to announce that the Orangeville & District

Real Estate Board (ODREB) is now an As-sociate Board of TREB and is looking for-ward to working together to enhance the experience of all our Members.

ODREB Members are also TREB Mem-bers, but ODREB will remain autono-mous of TREB. While ODREB and TREB will now be working together, both Boards will continue to provide their respective services and benefits to their Members.

In the spirit of cooperation as Associate Boards, TREB and ODREB are looking forward to sharing ideas in terms of how to improve services for their respective Members and how to help their Members better serve the public in their operating areas.

RECO and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) have previously addressed the

merits and importance of title insurance, what it covers and what lies outside its mandate. TREB is republishing general information on title insurance as it was printed by RECO and FSCO. As this is only general information and not legal advice, TREB strongly recommends you and your clients obtain independent le-gal advice with respect to title insurance.

Title insurance is not required in Ontario during a real estate transaction, but it is a good idea to consider all op-

tions when dealing with the many costs associated with closing. Title insurance protects residential or commercial prop-erty owners and their lenders against losses related to the property’s title or ownership. Title insurance coverage lasts as long as the property owner owns the property.

To learn more about title insurance, please check out RECO’s recommen-dations and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario’s comprehen-sive guide to title insurance.

TREB Welcomes Legislation on Multiple Representation in Real Estate Transactions

Title Insurance: What REALTORS® Need to Know

Recently, the provincial govern-ment announced proposed changes to the Real Estate and

Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA 2002) pertaining to conflict of interest issues that

arise in multiple representation transac-tions. Phase One of the current provincial re-view focuses on issues associated with multiple representation situations, con-

sumer understanding of real estate trans-action agreements, and penalties for un-ethical behaviour. To read TREB’s release on this issue, circulated on October 6, click here.

Real estate professionals operate in a highly regulated industry and must follow many rules and policies. Salespeople and Brokers often have questions about how to stay compliant.

TREB, in cooperation with RECO, has developed a Q & A for the most commonly held compliance questions.

This regular column focuses on one topic per month, with the goal of helping you stay compliant in your day-to-day business.

Multiple Offer situations re-quire you to act with fair-ness, openness and transpar-

ency in your interactions with all parties and within your legal and ethical duties. It is also important for you to remember whom you represent.
