THE BLUE JAY FLYER From the Principals Desk... www.stjohnsdrschool.org as we forgive our debtors Dear Parents, October has arrived, and it finally looks and feels like fall. Last week we had a wonderful gathering for our Grandparents Day event. It was great to see all of the grandparents, parents, and those here to support their children. We also had the opportunity for everyone to participate in and support our Book Fair. This Thursday we will have our annual Technology Walkathon. Our goal is focused upon providing the resources to install card readers on several of our main entrance doors. We have, through the wonderful generosity of a benefactor, several new security doors. We want to continue to upgrade and improve all of our security measures. Recently the entire faculty completed an online ALICE training course. Last week, the PTO offered an in depth presentation about preparing for and affording a Catholic High School education. I was joined by Maria Schweikert who was my admissions director at McAuley HS to talk about the High School Placement Test, scholarships and financial aid. It was a very well attended event. In todays Gospel, we are reminded of Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray. He gives them the very simple prayer we know as the Our Father. Jesus identifies God as holy and His Kingdom is to come. He gives us only one condition in this prayer. and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.Jesus wants us to be aware of both the reality of and the need for forgiveness. Last week I met with a second grader who needed to write an apology. He didnt know how. I walked him through the three parts of an apology. I believe that this is an important thing to learn. I often find that it is a challenge for me to let go of old injuries and offenses. And yet, I recognize how powerful forgiveness can be for both the forgiven and the forgiver. I encourage you to talk with your daughters and sons about forgiveness; to demonstrate and to expect forgiveness. In so doing, we will be heralds of Gods love as we forgive our debtors. as we forgive our debtors

Dear Parents,

October has arrived, and it finally looks and feels like fall.

In today’s Gospel, we are reminded of Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray. He gives them the very simple prayer we know as the Our Father. Jesus identifies God as holy and His Kingdom is to come. He gives us only one condition in this prayer. “and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” Jesus wants us to be aware of both the reality of and the need for forgiveness.

Last week I met with a second grader who needed to write an apology. He didn’t know how. In so doing, we will be heralds of God’s love as we forgive our debtors.

Sincerely,

Daniel A. Minelli

Shopping Cents Program Needs Volunteers

Our Shopping Cents program is in need of several volunteers to fill orders before and after weekend masses at St. John the Baptist Church. It takes less than one hour a month to help! This is an easy way to volunteer and meet new people. All of the proceeds benefit our school and help lower tuition rates, so we would love to get more school families involved. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Roetting at [email protected].

The creative possibilities never end with BENDAROOS! Check out these eyeglasses that fifth grade students have been making in art class.

Mrs. Flick’s accelerated reading students recently finished reading The Diary of Anne Frank play. In keeping with the traditions of the Jewish New Year (Rosh HaShanah) they enjoyed challah bread with honey, pomegranates and apples. Students also traveled to Thomas More University to watch a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank and visit the BB & T Observatory. Dr. Wes Ryle discussed with them the sun, solar flare, Northern Lights and astronomy as a profession.

Junior high students attended a NET Ministries retreat last week at St. John Neumann’s Daniel Hall. A team of twelve young adults from NET Ministries shared the love of Christ with our stu-dents through games, skits, personal witness, small group discussion, prayer and quiet reflection. The theme, “Fully Alive”, explored our search for finding true happiness, highlighting the one thing that is big enough to fill our deepest desires—God. It was a great day of faith for-mation and personal reflection. To learn more about NET Ministries, please visit netusa.org or facebook.com/netministriesusa

In honor of The Feast of St. Francis last Friday, students gathered in the church with photos of their pets for an all school pet blessing.

A BIG thank you to all of our school families that donated and/or volunteered at the St. John’s Parish Create the Good event. Together, we worked to be able to donate: *84 “no sew” fleece blankets to Pregnancy Center West *246 personal care item bags assembled for Hope’s Closet *130 swimsuits, 115 towels, 87 bottles of sun screen, $300 in gift cards and 41 games and puz-zles for Santa Maria Community Services *Countless cards made for Vivian’s Victory

7th Grade Accelerated Reading

A New Spin on Math Mrs. Zeller’s eighth grade math students recently learned about how math relates to a fireman’s job. The Little Miami Joint Fire & Rescue District explained how they convert pounds to kilograms for the purpose of calculating medication doses in pediatric patients. Also, the weight of the fire gear and pressure of the hoses in relation to math was discussed.
