PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Congratulations go to our staff and students on creating a video as part of the school’s Education Week activities. Our version of Pass the Pen will be made available on Facebook in the near future.

Yesterday, the Semester 2 student representative councillors for Stages 2 and 3 were presented with their badges. These students have been participating in regular SRC meetings. Student voice is important at Armidale City Public School.

Pedestrian safety All members of our school community are reminded to take care as pedestrians. In the last week we have seen parents and students placed in danger as they crossed the street between buses. The driver of one bus was shaken when a group of people walked in front of the bus without looking. Using a pedestrian crossing is important, after stopping to look and listen for traffic. Please do not cross the street through an active bus zone.

Kindergarten enrolment applications We are asking that all applications to enrol in Kindergarten in 2021 are provided to the school as soon as possible to ensure that you are advised of any Orientation to School activities in Term 4. Applications for non-local placements are welcome, but are not a guarantee of acceptance. Our enrolment committee will meet later this term to determine acceptance of placement and parents will be notified in the last week of this term.

When enrolling a student into a government school, you will need to have a number of documents. Please provide a copy of a standard birth certificate (commemorative birth certificates cannot be used for enrolment), Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) statement/certificate and several documents proving residential address in the name of the enrolling parent or carer.

Wearing correct uniform In recent weeks, we have noticed a number of students wearing coloured jumpers and hoodies in place of the required school jumper. We ask for the assistance of parents and carers in ensuring that students wear correct uniform items. Pre-loved school jumpers are available for as little as $3. This is a wonderful option for students in Year 6 or where an extra jumper is required.

Parenting Ideas Blog Children, as well as adults, have found the COVID-19 pandemic stressful with increased levels of anxiety being experienced. You may find some of the suggestions in this article interesting: https://www.parentingideas.com.au/blog/help-kids-to-beat-covid-induced-anxiety

WORK OF THE FORTNIGHT

MERIT AWARDS

1/2B CLASS NEWS We have had a busy start to Term 3 and all of the wonderful students in 1/2B have quickly resettled into our classroom routines and continue to work really hard to achieve their learning goals.

In English we have been studying ‘The Jolly Postman’ and have enjoyed exploring the ‘real’ letters that are inside of the book. In shared reading, we have continued with our Roald Dahl theme and are enjoying reading Matilda together. Our speaking and listening program for this term has commenced and the children have been keen to share their news with the class.

During mathematics, students have worked hard to develop their skills to use the split strategy when adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers. I am very proud of their achievement and confidence they have demonstrated in this area.

In history this term, we are learning about ‘The Past in the Present’. We have learnt about how the past helps us to

understand why things are the way they are in the present day and how they can make it easier to decide what to do in the future. All students were very interested in learning about the history of Armidale City Public School and how it has changed over time. Currently we are researching and learning about some of the significant historical buildings in our community.

Everyone in 1/2B enjoyed our first tennis session with Brandon last week and we are looking forward to our next lesson on Wednesday.
