The Univers i ty of F lor ida i s a major publ i c , research inst i -

tut ion located in Gainesv i l le, F la. The state ’s o ldest , largest

and most comprehensive univers i ty founded in 1853, the Uni -

vers i ty o f F lor ida, i s among the nat ion ’s most academica l ly d i -

verse publ ic univers i t ies.

The Univers i ty of F lor ida has a 2 ,000 -acre campus and

Student Union.

The Black Student Un ion at the Univers i ty of F lor ida was founded in 1968 with the miss ion

to prov ide a network for student organ izat ions, whi le empower ing s tudents to impact campus

and community l i fe.

The B lack Student Union serves to Create, Cul t ivate, and Chal lenge students at the Uni -

vers i ty o f F lor ida through community serv ice, phi lanthropic ventures , enterta inment and qual -

i ty programs. The organizat ion a ims to create an enjoyable co l lege exper ience for everyone.

As the fourth largest student organizat ion at the Univers i ty of F lor ida, the Black Student

Union celebrates 41 years o f serv ice to i ts campus and community.

t iona l Step Show. Thousands f rom across the nat i on f l ock

to the Stephen O ’Conne l l Center t o w i tness the la rges t s tu-

dent - run s tep show in the Southeast .

N ine teams , represent ing each o f the h i s to r i ca l l y B la ck

f r a te rn i t ie s and soro r i t ie s , compete fo r a cash p r i ze and

bragg ing r igh ts . The h igh ene rgy and thea t r i c s o f t he per -

formances make the F lor ida Inv i ta t iona l S tep Show a suc-

cess eve ry year .

Ce leb r i t ie s have been known to a t t end the s tep show

and othe r event s he ld dur ing tha t weekend . Notor ious

B. I .G . , Zhane ’ , Queen La t i fah , Co lumbus Shor t , Chery l Un-

derwood , Joe Tory and Ter rance and Rocs i f r om BET’ s

106th and Park , have a l l per formed a t p rev ious s tep shows .

In t rue B la ck H is tory Month fash ion , the F lo r i da Inv i ta -

t iona l Step Show has donated i t s t ime and resources to

va r i ous commun i t y o rgan i za t ions , such as Hurr i cane An-

drew Re l ie f E f fo r t , t he Boys and G i r l s C lub , Hab i ta t fo r Hu-

man i t y and the S i ck le Ce l l Anemia Foundat ion.
