This film is a 3D version of the previously released film Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. Using the latest post-production technology, the same high quality content has been made more engaging through its conversion to IMAX 3D. In the late 18th century, with the discovery of the Rosetta Stone and the subsequent code-cracking that allowed researchers to understand hieroglyphs, the popularity of Egypt and its hidden secrets exploded. Egypt-mania hit the high societies of Paris, New York and London. But when a few curious antiquities suddenly appeared on the black market in the 1870s, a handful of people in the world who could decipher hieroglyphs knew that these were no ordinary relics, for they bore the marks of kings. These were different. In spite of all of the energy and money spent to unearth ancient treasures, no one had found the tomb of a Pharaoh. Until now. From the exotic sand dunes of Mongolia’s Gobi Desert to the dramatic sandstone buttes of New Mexico, the film follows palaeontologists as they explore some of the greatest dinosaur finds in history. Through the magic of scientifically accurate computer generated animation, these newly uncovered creatures, and some familiar favourites, come alive…in a big way! One of the most dramatic sequences in the film features a Velociraptor and a Protoceratops that were locked in mortal combat when a sand dune swept over them. They died in the deadly embrace, claws and jaws still grasping at each other. Dinosaurs Alive! 3D shows the process of science, how new insights are sometimes built from previous discoveries, and how each new generation of palaeontologists continues the legacy of those who went before them. Excursion Tip: Combine with a visit to the Dinosaurs exhibition at the Australian Museum.

Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Colin Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it’s too late. Through the magic of scientifically accurate computer generated animation, these newly uncovered creatures, and some familiar favourites, come alive…in a big way!

One of the most dramatic sequences in the film features a Velociraptor and a Protoceratops that were locked in mortal combat when a sand dune swept over them. They died in the deadly embrace, claws and jaws still grasping at each other.

Dinosaurs Alive! 3D shows the process of science, how new insights are sometimes built from previous discoveries, and how each new generation of palaeontologists continues the legacy of those who went before them.

As part of the exhibition, Students will view up-close around 100 images of astronomical discovery taken by the Hubble space telescope, revealing the mysteries of our galaxy. Forming the most dramatic views of our universe, ‘From Earth to the Universe’ will intrigue students and open their eyes to the wonder of astronomy. An excellent link with IMAX Cosmic Voyage and the up coming film Hubble 3D (due out in March 2010).

What’s it like to live in space? Explore the evolution of space travel, from the first rocket launch to life in zero gravity, in the Powerhouse Museum‘s fascinating Space exhibition.

In the classic IMAX film Space Station 3D, students will travel 350km above Earth at 28,000km per hour to experience the International Space Station —the greatest engineering feat since landing a man on the Moon. In the words of film producer Toni Myers, “Very few people can actually say they’ve been in space. But those who have been there - astronauts and cosmonauts – have said that IMAX is the next best thing to being there.”
