The BIEN SolidWorks Crash Course Department of Bioengineering, UCR
This tutorial gives guidance on how to import models from SolidWorks into COMSOL (versions 4.2 and up). In this example, a 5in. x 5in. cube will be our model of choice
How to:
1) After your model has been created in SolidWorks, navigate to the drop-down file menu and click “save as”

2) When saving your file, select the “.STL” file format under the drop down menu
3) After saving your .STL file, navigate to your COMSOL model (in which geometry/ space, and physics parameters have already been defined)
• Right click on “geometry”, and select “import”

4) On the “import” menu, select “STL/VRML file” under the “geometry import” dropdown menu
5) Select “browse” to search for your .STL file, and make sure to select “STL file” under the file type menu

6) Select your .STL file, and click “import”
7) Your SolidWorks file is now ready to be modeled in COMSOL
Alternatively, you can use the LiveLink™ interface, which synchronizes SolidWorks and COMSOL when both are running simultaneously. The link is available for your use below: LiveLink ™ Interface
