The Bible: The Apocalypse

"It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end."

(Revelation 21:6)

One of TV history's most ambitious projects reaches its culmination in "The Apocalypse,"

the final installment of "The Bible." A collection of 21 TV movies produced over nine years

with top Hollywood and international stars and creative talent. An outstanding success

confirmed by exceptional ratings all over the world and many international awards, including

twelve Emmys and Emmy nominations.

The project now comes full circle with Richard Harris, the star of the first installment,

"Abraham", now as the apostle John in "The Apocalypse." Asia Minor, 90 A.D. Roman

Emperor Domitian has unleashed a virulent campaign against the Christians. Held captive by

the Romans on the island of Patmos, the aged apostle John struggles to save Christianity

from extinction by sending letters to the Christian communities of Asia Minor.

Driven by the wish to meet the last living witness of the Lord's passion, the young Christian

Irene succeeds in gaining access to John's prison. Entrusting the written record of his visions

to her, he begs Irene to spread its message among the Christians. These visions form the

contents of the Book of Revelation. To some, they evoke the end of the world; to others,

they allude to the spiritual struggles facing Christians of all eras.

The Holy Family

A love that defied conventions and embraced a divine mystery

Who were Joseph and Mary? What were they really like? The story of Jesus's birth is well

known, but not the story of his parents. In this sumptuous retelling of their lives, we are

shown flesh-and-blood human beings, life-loving, sensual individuals. Joseph is a red-blooded

male who is first annoyed, then touched, and finally won over by the much younger Mary.

Mary blends sweetness and determination, self-confidence and self-doubt. They poignantly

portray the dilemma of a very young woman to whom a "mysterious child" is announced,

and of her husband, whose love is put to a difficult test when his wife becomes

"mysteriously" pregnant. The two-part miniseries was written by Massimo de Rita (The

Octopus, Padre Pio), directed by Raffaele Mertes (Emmy for Joseph as Best Miniseries) and

stars Alessandro Gassman (Hamam, Samson and Delilah) and Ana Caterina Morariu

(Ocean's Twelve, War and Peace miniseries). Filmed in Jordan with sets designed by Oscar

and César winner Gianni Quaranta (A Room With A View, Farinelli), the production

exploits the beauty and spirituality emanating from Jordan's landscapes. This "Holy Family"

takes a fresh, modern, yet in-depth approach for today's audiences.

Mary

Virgin. Mother. Mystery.

Chosen for a fate unlike any other

Mary, Mother of God. What young woman would be able to rise every morning, to work in the olive

groves, to laugh and chat with her friends, if she knew that these three little words – Mother of God

– would one day be appended to her name? Yet there is one such young woman, Mary. Astonished

by the role she is asked to play in the coming of the Messiah, she unwaveringly fulfills the mission

assigned to her from on high.

In this respectful approach to the life of the Virgin Mary, the film lets the viewer share in the mystery

and adventure of a young girl upon whom a great role is suddenly thrust. From the Annunciation to

Easter Sunday, all the stations of Mary's life are portrayed, all the joys and the sorrows. Helping to

weave the emotional tapestry of her life are the men and women around her, the foremost being

Joseph, Mary's husband, a man of flesh and blood who is called upon to believe in the uniqueness of

Mary's destiny, and to forego many of the rights and privileges of marriage.

With Mary's friend Magdalene, we follow the path of a fascinating secondary character who is blinded

by the dazzling opulence of King Herod's court and seduced by the king's dissolute daughter-in-law

Herodias into committing various misdeeds – the moving account of a sinner who ultimately repents

and becomes the first woman follower of Christ alongside Mary.

IMPERIUM - Nero

The obscure face of power

The Emperor Caligula has gone mad. He kills his sister's husband for conspirancy and exiles his sister Agrippina

to a remote island, far from her beloved son, Lucius who will go down in the history books as Nero. Eight

year-old Lucius is sent to live with his Aunt Domitia, who has her slaves bring him up. The boy is particularly

fond of Appollonius, a greek actor, and the man's beautiful daughter Acte. But Nero's happiness ends when

Caligula is killed by his generals and succeeded by the emperor Claudius, who ends Agrippina's unjust exile.

Nero is reunited with his mother. Agrippina's one goal is to make her son a ruler of the Roman Empire. She

gets rid of Messalina, Claudius' dissolute wife. She seduces the emperor and convinces him to marry her and

adopt Nero, When Claudius comes bach from Brittania he informs Agrippina that Britannicus, his natural son,

will succeed him rather than Nero. Suddenly Claudius dies, probably poisoned by Agrippina. Nero, thanks to a

counterfeited will, becomes emperor. His first official act is to present Acte as his future bride. The Roman

nobility is indignant. The populace overjoyed. With help of Seneca, Nero sets up a series of political reforms.

The negative effect on the rich senators lead them to consider replacing Nero with Britannicus. Agrippina sees

her son 's position threatened and, through deception and the help of Seneca, forces him to kill Claudius's son.

Acte leaves Nero, refusing to stand by a man who agrees to kill an innocent victim. Nero has his own mother,

Agrippina, murdered in order to free himself from her hold. Acte is introduced to the Christian faith by Paul of

Tarsus. Nero, seduced by Poppaea, gradually goes mad. Not even an encounter with Acte gives him hope. Fire

devastates the city of Rome. Nero blames the Christian community and begins constructing the Domus Aurea.

Paul of Tarsus and other friends of Acte are persecuted. The situation gets out of control. The army rebels

against Nero. Abandoned by all, he commits suicide. Only Acte is concerned enough to ensure that his body

receives a dignified burial. Love and true Christian spirit allow her to see the lonely, tormented man behind the

monstrous mask.
