The Best Thing Possible for the Worst Person PossibleLuke 6:27-36

Love your enemies-(Internal)

Do good to those who hate you- (Physical)

Verses 27-31 is on a person to person level

The first five verses talks about “Do to others as you would have them do to you”

Luke 6:27-29

But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those

who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you 29 Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the

other also; and whoever takes away you coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

Luke 30-31

30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not

demand it back. 31 Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. Do to others as you

would have them do to you. Not as they do to you, not like they do to you, treated others the

way you want to be

Luke 6: 30-36

The second five verses talks about treating others the way Your Father treats you

The emphasis shifts from the personal level to the God level

Luke 6: 32-33

32 if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 If you do good to those who do

good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.

Luke 6: 34-35

34 If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same

amount.35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend,

expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and

evil men.

Luke 6:27

Vs.27 Love your enemies

This love is an internal process

The Greek word agape is often translated "love" in the New Testament.

Agape is love which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself. The apostle John

affirms this in 1 John 4:8: “God is love.” God does not merely love; He is love itself.

Proverbs 25:21-22

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;

22 For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,And the Lord will reward you.

Proverbs 25:21-22

1. Love your friends and hate your enemies

2. Crazy cycle of vengeful acts

3. Transforming initiatives

Bless those who curse you (Verbal)

Proverbs 18:21Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Let’s Review

We start with this internal work which then leads to physical acts

which leads to words of blessing which now turns into this spiritual realm

Pray for those who mistreat you - (Spiritual Level)

A prayer to pray for those who mistreat you

Father in heaven, May the work of the Holy Spirit continue in me,

And may the works of my flesh come to nothing

May the work of the Holy Spirit continue in them and let their flesh come to nothing

Lord may your blessings over take them and your favor be poured out on them

Results of Prayer For Those Who Mistreat You

The Results of Praying is this Prayer

Your heart is the one that gets set free and your words get softer

Psalms 103:8-13

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in loving-

kindness.9 He will not always strive with us,

Nor will He keep His anger forever.10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

Psalms 103:8-1311For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

So great is His loving-kindness toward those who fear Him.

12 As far as the east is from the west,So far has He removed our transgressions from

us.13 Just as a father has compassion on his children,So the Lord has compassion on those who fear

Him.

Luke 23:33-34

When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do

not know what they are doing.”

Luke 23:39-43

One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!” 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same

sentence of condemnation?

Luke 23:39-43

41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but

this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I

say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

Summation of Jesus’ Teaching FromLuke 6:27-36

Internal change = Physical and Verbal change = Spiritual Victory
