TRANSCRIPT
Not many, if any at all, of us would check yes. We all like to feel like we have a grasp on what is happening around us. It feels good to know what to expect and to feel competent regarding the world around us. When the status quo changes we lose some of that feeling. Change brings feelings of uncertainty, a lack of con-trol, and many other negative feelings of discomfort. Though we don’t like change, God is always doing new things in our lives, our church and in our world. There has been a saying passed down in Reformed churches, “The church reformed, always reforming.” God is reforming each of us and, with all of us together, He is reforming His church. God is still revealing secrets to His servants and pointing out to us where change can occur in our lives and in the life of our church. There are the changes that God desires to see in our world to overcome hate, poverty, hunger, and disease. There are hearts that God desires to change to rid them of greed, sorrow, lust and many other vices. While we trust that all the changes God wants to see will be fulfilled when Christ returns, He has placed His church in a way that we will change the world as we are changed to be like Christ. God has called us by name to be His children, not only that we would be changed by the presence of His Spirit, but also that we would be the agents to bring change in our church, in our communities, and in the world. As His children upon whom He has poured out His Spirit, we need to begin to ask Him what He is revealing to us about His intentions. We need to spend time listen-ing to the Lord so He can tell us where and what He is about to do. Is He working in our hearts to rid us of some sin? Will He re-veal a need for some work to be done among the children and youth of our church? Is His plan to bring a new ministry to fight addiction in our community? Is God going to reveal to us that we should be involved in an international mission in some way? God continues to be at work in our world doing amazing things and bringing change in areas that do not line up
with His will and the culture of His kingdom. He wants us to be involved. By seeing and hearing from Him about what He is doing, we can also see where we are called to work.
“The Lord God does nothing without revealing His secret to His
servants the prophets.”

Raise the Roof at the Mission
URGENT REQUEST!!!
Canton Calvary Mission MUST replace its roof! The Mission is looking for 70 partners to donate $500 each, for a total of $35,000, to Raise the Roof. This giving is above and beyond any current giving, for which the Mission is so thankful. This goal is needed to be accomplished immediately to assure the roof will be completed before winter weather arrives. Thank you in advance for your support! Donations of any amount will help “Raise the Roof.” To donate, send a check to Canton Calvary Mission, 1345 Gibbs Ave. NE, Canton, OH 44705, with “roof” on memo line.
UPDATE: The mission has only received 10% of what they need!
I want to thank all the people who participated in this year’s successful Summer Kids Program. We couldn’t have done it without you: the youth who put on the puppet show (Ethan, Morgan and friend), people who cooked those delicious meals, told a Bible story, helped with crafts (thank you Mia, Jordan and Ava), arranged and coordinated the most engaging games, led the kids in singing energetic songs or helped with the Carnival, you are a treasure! Thank you to Pastor Jon for his oversight and leadership in creating a positive Christian program. Sandy Smith
Z-Medical checked out our AED last week and it is working perfectly. I will be contacting the Fire Department to set up a CPR class for anyone who might use the AED. Please let me know if you are interested. Sandy Smith

The school season has begun
and with it, its many activities. Our church music program starts, too, and there is a place for those of you who love to sing, or play an instrument. As you may know, I will have knee replacement surgery on September 25, but the good people of the church will keep the music coming! Thanks in advance to the talented folks at CFUMC. The choir will gather for rehearsals on Wednesday, Sept 6, 13, and 20 before I am off a few weeks to recover. I know there are other good singers in the congregation, because I sometimes can hear you! Please come along and give us a trial run! Handbell rehearsals will start soon with Sandy Smith at the helm. We need ringers, please! And instrumentalists...if you play an instru-ment...any instrument: drums, brass, wind, string, key-board, etc. please let me know. I would love to include various types of accompaniment and special music in our worship services. God gives everyone abilities, and some of those are musical. Please prayerfully consider using your skills and abilities for the glory of God in our worship services. Over the summer, many have helped in various ways to present music. For fear of forgetting anyone, let me just say a big THANK YOU ALL!
Soli Deo Gloria
Prayer Chain We have a wonderful prayer chain group that can be notified of those needing special prayers. Con-tact Holly Wilhelm at 330-854-2750 or wollycort @sssnet.com if you would like prayers for your-self, friends or family members. Holly will also contact Pastor Jon with this information. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in eve-rything, by prayer and petition, with thanks-giving, present your requests to God.” Philippines 4:6

Our mission is to reach out to welcome all and together walk with Christ
Missions Corner First off, thank you for all who helped, attended, and donated towards the Missions’ Chicken Dinner. We more than replenished our funds to continue our local missions’ projects for the coming year. In Jennifer and Jim Cowart’s study, “Living the 5”, one of the five characteristics of emerging community groups is “Saved people serve people”. Christ was the ultimate server. In Mark 6:30-34, the apostles had just returned to Christ from their own missionary journeys and were all going out in the wilderness to pray, rest, and revive. However, the people in the nearby towns saw them going and beat them there. Instead of being exasperated and annoyed, Jesus had compassion and pity on the crowd and sat and began to teach them. It should be our goal to serve others unconditionally and totally. In the back of the sanctuary, you will see two stands with mission opportunities, both domestic and abroad. There are opportunities to sponsor a child in Bo, Sierra Leone, to make UMCOR kits, to knit, crochet, or sew items for UMCOR kits, as well as information on local volunteer opportunities and contacts. Please pray and allow the Spirit to lead you
in joining us in one of many missions!
Please continue to pray for Operation Christmas Child throughout the year. Each month we feature an item to collect for this year’s boxes. By doing this each month you will help to pack a whole shoebox by the end of the year! September is the month to collect games! The OCC website recommends that if you choose a game that requires batteries that you are sure to include a couple extra sets. If you are unable to store your purchas-es at home, please let Emily George know.
We will be taking a missions trip to The Urban Mission March 26th-27th, 2018 and will also be taking a missions trip to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Springfield, IL July 9-13th, 2018. Don’t miss out!
Save the dates and join us!
