The History of Football
American football was brought to us by Walter Camp in 1879.
It was derived from the English game of Rugby.

The History of Football Cont.
One precursor to Walter Camp's influence was William Ebb Ellis, a student at the Rugby School in England. In 1823, Ellis was the first person noted for picking up the ball during the soccer game and running with it, thereby breaking and changing the rules. In 1876, at the Massosoit convention, the the first attempts at writing down the rules of American football were made. Walter Camp edited every American Football rulebook until his death in 1925.

Offense
Offense is when your team has control of the ball and is attempting to score. The offense has four downs to advance the ball ten yards or they lose possession to the opposing team.
Offense in football is designed as having possession of the ball and attempting to score points in the form of a touchdown or field goal.Quit
Offense Cont.
A touchdown is scored when a player either runs into the end zone or catches the ball in the end zone
A field goal is scored when a player kicks the ball from the ground through the goal posts.
A touchdown is worth six points and a field goal is worth three points.
After a touchdown a team may either kick an extra point for one point from the three yard line or they may try to score in the end zone for two points

Defense
Defense is the act of attempting to stop the offense from scoring a touchdown or field goal.
In order to stop the offense you are required to stop them by tackling the person with the ball and getting either their elbows or knees to hit the ground

Defense Cont.
The defense may also score touchdowns during the game. This is done by either getting the ball from an opponent if they drop it or intercepting the ball when the offense attempts to throw it to a receiver.
The defense has stopped the offense after the offense has been unsuccessful in getting ten yards in four tries.

Special Teams
Special teams refers to the part of football that does the kicking and receiving.
At the beginning of the game and after half time one team kicks to the other team in order to go on offense. Teams also kick off after they score.
