In Christ,

Pastor Ron Jones

Dear Church Family,

We are two months into 2018. We have been

doing a good job of making our faith tangible. We’ve

filled our food pantry and we’ve collected hundreds of

dollars of Subway Gift Cards. Now it’s time for our

next Tangible Project of the Month. Our Tangible

Project for the month of March is to give to the Annie

Armstrong Easter Offering. We are a very mission

minded church and giving to this offering will help

get the gospel to those in North America! Here is

some information about this offering.

What is the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering?

The offering was started in 1895 by Woman’s

Missionary Union (WMU) to benefit the work of the

Home Mission Board (now North American Mission

Board). In 1934, it was named in honor of Annie

Armstrong, a bold missions advocate and WMU’s

first national executive leader. Today, more than $1

billion has been donated by Southern Baptist churches

and individuals.

How are the gifts used?

Every dollar given goes to train and resource more

than 5,000 missionaries involved in church planting

and compassion ministries who share the life-

transforming gospel of Jesus Christ across the United

States, Canada and their territories. For more I

nformation visit namb.net/annualreport.

What is our Church’s goal?

Our goal for this offering is $2,500 and I believe we

can reach it! You are a generous people and if each of

us contributes then I am confident that we will reach

our goal. We can do much more together than we can

do individually. Combining our money with other like

-minded churches for the purpose of fulfilling the

Great Commission is one of the great strengths of

being a Southern Baptist Church. Let’s continue to

make our faith tangible in the month of March and

reach our goal!

For the month of March we will be having

one Sunday evening service.

Come join us for Fellowship &

Worship on Sunday March 11th

Viewpoint from your

Director of

Music Ministry

The past two months have convinced me that the

congregation at Hill Baptist Church enjoys singing the great

hymns of the church and sings them well. In that light, I'd like to

share with you some thoughts and quotes from the book, "Sing -

How Worship Transforms Your Life, Family and Church" I think

that this book and the thoughts we share this month will give each

person new insights into why the great and timeless hymns and

music of church always become an integral part of worship and

our lives.

"We are a singing people because it is how God has created

us. It's what we do! When we do, we're simply joining in with

what the rest of creation is doing. Psalm 139 sings, "For you

created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother's

womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully

made." Around the twelve-week mark, the vocal cords of a baby

growing in the womb are in place and have been shown to work

long before the baby is born. Singing is not merely a happy by-

product of God's real intent of making us creatures who can speak

but it is something we are designed to be able to do."

"If you can speak, you can physically sing. The truth is that

God designed you to sing and gave you everything you need to

sing, as well as He wants you to. He's far less concerned with our

tunefulness than our integrity. Christian singing begins with the

heart, not on the lips(Eph.5:19). Your voice may not be of

professional standard, but it is of confessional standard. Also,

some of us have talents that allow us to sing with beautiful tones

and good pitch, while others have talents to sing with their soul".

"Singing together organizes notes and words in beautiful ways

to shine God's dazzling truths into the relativistic grays of our

culture. Our singing is not like prayer--it is prayer. The great

sixth-century church father, St. Augustine, is reputed to have said

that we pray twice when we sing."

"'What is the chief end of man?' asks the Westminster Shorter

Catechism. The answer: "To glorify God and enjoy Him

forever"! We are created to sing because it leads us joyfully to

the great Singer, Creator of the heavens and the earth. God's

songs of forgiveness, grace, reconciliation, truth, hope,

sovereignty, and love give you back your humanity and restore

your identity."

"Our singing should sound like Him, look like Him, and lead our

hearts to Him. We do not worship the created art of singing; we

worship Him! Sing because you love who made you, and

formed you, and enables you to sing!"

In Christ's service,

Floyd Montgomery
