Introduction

The war has been going on for two years and two days. The battle of Champion Hill has just been won by union forces. Champion Hill was the battle before the battle of Vicksburg. The total casualties at Champion hill was 6,757. Union forces are headed towards Vicksburg, Mississippi.

•The battle of Vicksburg began on May 18, 1863 and carried on through June.

•The battle is also called the siege of Vicksburg.

•The confederate city of Vicksburg surrendered on July 4, 1863.

General Robert E. Lee

• Robert E. Lee was born in Stratford Hall Plantation, Westmore County, Virginia.

• He was born on January 19, 1807.• He was the son of Major Henery Lee III.• He was one of the Confederacy generals

from the beginning of the civil war in 1861 until the end in 1865.

• He died on October 12, 1870.

General Ulysses S. Grant

• Ulysses S. Grant was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio.

• He was born on April 27, 1822.

• He was one of the union generals in the civil war from the beginning in 1861 to the end of the war in 1865.

• He died on July 23,1885.

Vicksburg, Mississippi

• The city of Vicksburg is on the east side of the Mississippi river.

• The Mississippi river played a huge part in the battle because supplies, food and ammunition were shipped to the soldiers.

• The city of Vicksburg is the only city in Warren county, Mississippi.

• The Union strategy was to take Tennessee and it’s key rail lines and then to take the Mississippi river.

• The confederacy did not have strategy for the battle.

• The Union won The Battle of Vicksburg.

• I think the Union won the battle because they had a plan and were more prepared than the confederacy

Uniforms

• The Union wore blue uniforms.

• The Confederacy wore gray uniforms.

• The Union uniforms were made of dyed wool.

• At the beginning of the war the confederacy did not have uniforms.

• Later in the war factories made the gray uniforms .

• Spies in the Civil War provided details on troop movements and strengths.

• If they were caught in disguise and not in uniform they would be hung.

• One of the Confederacy spies was John Yates Beall.

• The total casualties between the Union and the Confederacy is 19,233.

• The total casualties for the Union is 10,142.

• Many soldiers died of infection from their wounds.
