The Barker!

Look what YOU have done!

Yes, I said you! Looking back over the years it is so rewarding to see how far the Lakes Area

Humane Society has come. One of the biggest accomplishments is simply having the ability to keep

our shelter operational throughout the years. It may sound simple and basic, but anyone who has

owned a business knows there are constant challenges to address, progress must be monitored

and changes made when growth or client needs require it. During the economic downturn, many

non-profits found that they couldn’t maintain due to the loss of economic support, while the need

for services increased significantly. In the animal welfare field, many individuals had to relinquish

family pets as they could no longer afford to care for them or had to move for job opportunities

and pet-friendly housing wasn’t available. The Lakes Area Humane Society was not immune to

these challenges either, but we have successfully pushed on.

Getting back to my initial statement of “Look what YOU have done!” this simple, yet immensely

important, accomplishment really belong to each of you who have and continue to support our

shelter. In addition:

It is your donations that have given LAHS the ability to survive through these

difficult times. It is your donations that have given LAHS staff the means to increase the quality of medical

care provided to the animals served.

It is your donations that find homeless and unwanted animals, life-long loving homes.

It is your donations that have assisted in providing various low-cost spay and neuter

opportunities to pet owners in our community. It is your donations that provide training and assistance to pet owners struggling with behavior

problems.

It is your donations that assist in the cruelty/neglect situations. It is your donations that have helped to develop animal transfer options for animals when our

shelter is full or when mothers/babies need foster care. It is your donations that continue to provide education to hundreds of children and adults on

the importance of responsible pet ownership.

Yes, I could go on, but I think that you get the gist of my message. We want YOU to recognize

that when you give, you are responsible for these accomplishments. So, please give yourselves a

huge pat on the back for the positive impact you are having on the welfare of the animals in our

community!

Fundraising Success….

LAHS is on Facebook! Join us and we will keep you

updated on pets that are

available for adoption, upcoming events and other

opportunities!

The Lakes Area Humane Society held it’s 5th Annual “Hypnotic Halloween” fundraising event at the Holiday

Inn this past October. The festivities began with social hour, treats and a silent auction, with a large number of

items donated by many generous local businesses and individuals!

The highlight of the night was the hilarious hypnosis show provided by Randy Buker, certified hypnotist with

Dream Weaver Comedy Hypnosis. The guest and participants has a fantastic time during the hypnosis show,

which was entertaining from the beginning to the very end!

Nearly $3000 was raised for the shelter! The LAHS wishes to extend a HUGE thank you to Randy and

Dreamer Weaver Comedy Hypnosis Show for the donation of his services and also to the Holiday Inn for the

donation of space for the event! Watch for information on this year’s event!

A Hypnotic Halloween…..
