UPDATE

This year’s toy drive was a total success. The city of

Thibodaux was able to help 597 families with 1722 chil-

dren. Our parish was able to help 142 families with 395

children! Thank you so much for all dona ons of gi s and

monetary dona on to help the children of our parish of

St Genevieve have a blessed Christmas!

The Feast of the Bap sm of the Lord Mark 1:7-11

“You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” 

Imagine that we were with Jesus and heard a voice from heaven say those words. How would we react? If we accepted that the voice was God, what would we have thought about Jesus? Jews, par cularly the Pharisees, Levites, Sadducees and scribes, would have been aware of the Old Testament references about God as Father and the Anointed One as Son [II Samuel 7:12-14 and I Chronicles 17:13]. They obviously did not accept Jesus as the Son of God and pur-sued him to his death. Do we believe Jesus is the Son of God? If so, how is that belief reflect-ed in our lives? Do we imitate Jesus and feel confident that God is telling us “You are my be-loved child, with whom I am well pleased”? As parents, do we frequently tell our children how beloved they are and that we are well pleased? We certainly must correct and discipline them when they do wrong, but do they o en hear us say, “I am proud of you.” Do we say that to others? Imagine a world in which everyone was doing that. God would be so pleased with us.
