The Banner The Newsletter of the Countryside Northridge Homeowners Association
April 2 – City of Clearwater Neighborhoods Day! See you there!?
Martha Hickey, Editor
February 2016
President’s Message
At the Annual Meeting of the membership in December, a
resident requested that a "no parking within 30 feet" sign be
placed at the corner of Northridge Drive and Curlew Road.
The City was contacted and the sign was installed in January.
Also at the annual meeting, an election for three Board seats
was held with three members agreeing to serve again. Nicole
Dufala, Walter Johnson, and Gary Welsh will serve two year
terms. At the Board Meeting in January, Officers were
elected and the roster appears on the left hand side of this
page. There were fourteen homes in the subdivision that
changed hands in 2015 and that represents a turnover of 12
percent. I can't emphasize enough the need for homeowners
to step forward and volunteer to serve on the Board. If
people don't volunteer, a Management Company will need to
be hired and that will increase the dues substantially.
I would like to thank the 95 homeowners that have remitted
their dues to date. The grace period expires at the end of
February, monthly late charges of 1 percent take effect on
March first, and unpaid accounts will be referred to the
attorney on April first This will increase your dues by the
attorneys fees. Please take a moment and send in your check
today.
I would also like to thank Martha Hickey for continuing as
Editor of the Banner in 2016 and John Flint for being our
Web Master.
The Board wishes to welcome new residents that have moved
in since the last newsletter.
A copy of the Audit of the 2015 Financial Statements, as well
as the statements themselves, appears in this edition of the
Banner. Thank you to Tom Smiddy and Chris Negvesky for
performing the Audit.

The City of Clearwater Neighborhoods Day will be celebrated on Saturday April 2nd and the Association will
again participate. Refreshments will be served, City Officials will stop by as well as representatives from the
Police, Fire and various other Departments.
I again urge you to sign up for electronic delivery of the newsletter as you will receive it sooner than waiting for a hard
copy and this is the only way of getting information out to the residents if a problem occurs in the neighborhood (as
happened in January).
Residents are reminded that, according to Article V Section 10 of our Covenants, the trash and recycling containers
should be properly concealed from public view by the can hide and not left in the driveway. This should not be a problem
now that trash collection has been reduced to once a week.
Walter Johnson
CNHOA President

If you have bought here, or moved in recently and have not been contacted and welcomed by the
Board…or if you have been living here for some time and see folks moving into our neighborhood, please
let one of the members of the Board know.
Because, in addition to saying “Welcome”, in the event we have not already done so, we like to introduce
new neighbors to our community in The Banner!
Many thanks to John Flint for maintaining our association web site! www.CNHOA.com

And, while we are on the subject of E-mails!
And neighborhood “incidents”
On Thursday, January 28 around 1 in the afternoon, there was an attempted break-in on
NorthRidge….right in broad open daylight! (And a bit of rain.) The slider to the living room was
opened just a little and the burglar alarm must have scared the uninvited intruder(s) off. The
homeowners had just left and when they got the call from the alarm company, they came right
home. The police were called. Fortunately there was nothing missing.
There have been several recent reports of a peeping Tom, going into yards and peeking into
windows. One homeowner who found him peeking in a window, called the police and they
apprehended him. Turns out that he is a teenage boy who rides around quite a bit on a bicycle
listening to his iPod. It is not known if he has attempted to enter any houses. Hopefully, the
parents will pay attention and keep track of him before he looks in a window and is harmed by a
scared homeowner!
Within the past few months, there have been two or three reports of would-be home invaders
trying to gain access to houses in our area. And several years ago, someone did gain access to a
house and made off with quite a few of the homeowner’s possessions! We no longer have an
organized neighborhood watch…but, if you see anything suspicious, please call the police and let
one of the Board of Directors of CNHOA know, or E-mail me so we can alert homeowners.
And…..
If you are on the E-mail list, you get notified of this type of incident, fast! If not, you will be
notified in The Banner. Eventually!
REMINDER: CNHOA Dues are Due!
The dues for 2016 are $85; a decrease from last year!
As of this writing, 95 homes out of 120 had paid their dues. The grace period
expires the end of February. If you forgot to mail yours in, please do so right away!
Prompt payment saves you money!!

Annual 2016 Clearwater Celebrates Neighborhoods Day
Saturday, April 2
On the afternoon of April 2, at Country Hollow Park, Countryside Northridge Homeowners Association
will once again participate in Neighborhoods Day. This is an annual city-wide block party event and the
City encourages all neighborhoods to participate; city staff members and leaders will be at the various
block parties to visit and talk with the residents.
There will be refreshments. And, Neighborhoods Day would not be complete without a visit from the ice
cream truck! Courtesy of the City of Clearwater!
The event is scheduled from 11 am to 2 pm. All residents are encouraged to attend…what a great way to
meet and/or re-connect with neighbors.
Nicole Dufala is coordinating this event. And would like your help to make this a fun and memorable
block party. If you would like to volunteer, please contact her at 656-8145.
Editor’s Note: One of the things I was always fascinated by when I was a kid was a fire truck. And at one
of these events, we had one for the kids to climb in and on. And some of us “less young” kids could climb
in and on it too!

Miscellaneous “notes”:
That is the number of houses in our association area that “turned over”
during the past year! So….that means that there are quite a few new residents! The Board of Directors of CNHOA (and the
editor of the Banner, too) encourages the new residents as well as those who have been here for quite a
while to get involved in CNHOA! The Board Meetings are open to all residents! Without YOU taking
part in the neighborhood association, if a management company comes in, dues would stop decreasing and
start increasing. Considerably! Really!
Have you noticed: A no-parking within 30-feet sign has been installed at the corner of
North Ridge and Curlew, north bound. I know of more than one resident (me included)
who, when trying to turn on to Curlew has been almost hit by vehicles coming off Curlew,
when cars (or lawncare vehicles) were parked at the corner! Thank you!!!
We are a few weeks into the New Year. Did you join a gym as part of your
New Year’s Resolutions? (Or as Linus on Charlie Brown once said…New
Year’s Revolutions.)
A few rules of conquering the gym as written by Jason Gay some years ago, for the Wall Street Journal:
Remember:
The gym is not designed to make you feel instantly better about yourself. If the gym wanted to make you
feel instantly better about yourself, it would be a bar.
Give yourself a goal. Maybe you want to lose 10 pounds. Maybe you want to quarterback the New York
Jets into the playoffs. But be warned. Losing 10 pounds is hard.
Develop a gym routine….a mix of strength training and cardio conditioning….and after the third week,
stop carrying around those fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies!
“Great Job” is trainer-speak for “It’s not polite for me to laugh at you.”
If you are motivated to buy an expensive home exercise machine, consider a wooden coat rack. It costs
$40, uses no electricity, and does the exact same thing!
Fact: Thinking about going to the gym burns between 0 and 0 calories!
