Fellow Members,

We have had a busy time during the past couple of months. Much of June was spent getting ready and having our yard sale. Thanks to Harold Lamb and his many helpers. We had a very successful sale and made big $’s. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time and their goods.

We had a great time at the July 4th picnic. More than 70 mem-bers were in attendance even though we had to move inside be-cause of the heat. Thanks to Rae Jean, Lori Vance and many others who helped make it fun. Several members donated cakes (11) etc., that were auctioned off. We made $136 on the cakes that were donated. Our ladies really know how to make the goodies.

On July 13th, the group known as the “Newcomers” used our pic-nic area for a BBQ. They seemed to have a good time and the Lodge benefited financially. Be sure and let others know that these areas can be rented at reasonable costs.

Be sure and mark your calendars for August 24th. The W.O.T.M. is holding their Western Casino Night. Better get your tickets early before they are gone.

On July 18th at the Lodge meeting the officers and I presented a plan to the membership entitled “Rescue 911”. The plan ap-proved by the members was discussed in my Governor’s Mes-sage last month. A copy of the plan will be mailed to each mem-ber in the next two weeks. Please contact me if you have any questions. I hope you will join Rae Jean and I in becoming sup-porters of the plan.

Officer for the month of August is Mark Taylor, Trustee (872-1664)

God bless and have a wonderful month of August.

In Loyal Friendship, Bill Goodwin, Governor

Administrator’s Message:

Thanks to all those that work so hard at our different events and work parties to keep things running smoothly. The June yard sale organized by Harold Lamb and his large crew of Lodge and Chapter members netted $3099.

Welcome to our newest members, Mike Cowart sponsored by Robert Kevo, Jay Elliott by Bernie Dubbert, Al Hernandez by Jack Jackson, Ed Keenan by Bill Goodwin, Arthur Pollock by Terry Mallan, and transfer William Elliot from Sunnyvale.

Coming up is a Western Casino Night on Saturday August 24, and a Women of the Moose Tea in September for new members. We also have some great Tuesday Taco nights as well as wonderful meals on Thursday Burger nights, Friday dinners and Sunday breakfasts.

Those who start, listen to or spread rumors about how bad our Lodge is doing, need to come to a meeting and get the real story. While we have had some hard times like most other Lodges, and have a ways to go to be where we were several years ago, things are not near as bad as the rumors circulating. We are not behind in our local bills and only have our mortgage at a normal commercial rate and Moose Inter-national long term payments which are made on time.

The new Membership campaign GO THE DISTANCE celebrates the 125th Anniversary of the Moose and the 100th Anniversary of Moose-heart, the Women of the Moose and the Legion of the Moose. During the year long program May 1, 2013 to April 30, 2014, the application fee is waived when you sponsor a new member into the Lodge, Chap-ter or Legion of the Moose. Have your friend turn in the application along with the first year’s dues, $60.00 Lodge, $25.00 Chapter or $20.00 Legion. We will invite them to our new member orientation program and acquaint them with our Lodge and the Moose Fraternity.

The State Association also has a program to give a gas card for sign-ing up new or former members. See the poster in this newsletter.

Pick up a Moose Benefits brochure the next time you are in the Lodge or see it on the Moose International website www.mooseintl.org.

Fraternally Rich Sloane, Administrator

COURT ORDERED WORK PROGRAM All Court ordered people are to be referred to Tom Markle for screening and approval. We recently had one person working for us that I did not know about. When we are responsible to a Judge and the Court system we have to be careful with how we run this program. Thanks.

GAMES NIGHT IS NOW ON THE FIRST TUESDAY EACH MONTH!

Thank you to all those that come out to our game nights and participate in the various games. Bring your favorite

game and teach others to play!

The Fellowship is GREAT!

FIRST VETERANS COMMITTEE MEETING: TUESDAY, AUGUST 13th - 6:30pm

Come to TACO TUESDAY NIGHT and then join in on the first ever Veterans Committee meeting. The meetings will be chaired by Tom Markle and we'll set up future meeting dates and our agenda. Bring your calendars and ideas with you. I'll have a one page handout for everyone as to what the Veterans Committee might do in the future. Our fixed agenda, once established, will be presented to the Lodge Officers to ensure that as a Lodge, we are all on the same page. If interested, call Tom (966-3816) or email me at: [email protected] or JUST SHOW UP! NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A VETERAN, OR A MAN TO BE ON THIS COMMITTEE. I INVITE WOTM MEMBERS AND NON-VETERANS TO PARTICIPATE. Tom Markle, Chairperson

OTHER “HELP WANTED” The Lodge desperately needs:

BARTENDERS and FOOD PREPARERS. This will greatly increase the possibility of the Lodge

meeting its financial obligations each month.

NOTICE

PLEASE HELP OUT OUR VOLUNTEER BARTENDERS.

BUS YOUR TABLE OF BOTTLES, GLASSES AND TRASH WHEN LEAVING THE SOCIAL QUARTERS. THE VOLUN-TEER BARTENDERS HAVE ENOUGH TO DO KEEPING UP

WITH SERVING PEOPLE DURING THE DINNER RUSH.

LODGE CLEANUP VOLUNTEERS DESPERATELY NEEDED

The Lodge needs to be cleaned every Wednesday morning at 8:00. The Lodge currently has five members who are available on a pretty regular basis. The Lodge needs backup volunteers to fill in when the regular members are not avail-able. Should there be no new volunteers, the condition and cleanliness of the Lodge meal facilities will deteriorate to an unsanitary condition that may not be acceptable to the Butte County Environmental Health inspectors. If enough mem-bers would sign up, Mark Taylor could assign alternating weeks. The continued longevity of the Lodge is at stake here. Please take this situation seriously. PLEASE CALL MARK TAYLOR TO VOLUNTEER AT 872-1664 OR CONTACT HIM AT THE LODGE 877-9391 Very Respectfully, Jake Jacobson, Past Governor

The next Mt. Lassen Legion of the Moose meeting will be at the Gridley Lodge on Saturday August 10, 2013. The Legion Executive Board meeting is at 1PM with the Ceremonial at 2PM. Legion President Paul Reardon presiding.

District News: The next District Meeting will be at the Gridley Lodge on Saturday August 10, 2013. District Executive Board Meeting is at 4PM and District Meeting and Dinner at 6PM. District President Wally Spielman presiding.

SICKNESS & DISTRESS

Major Price is home and would welcome visitors. Thor Hansen was in the hospital and after receiving a stent in an artery is already back in his RV traveling. Our deepest sympathy to the family of Jim Anderson who passed away last month. Jim was a Past Governor and a holder of the Fellowship Degree of Honor. If you know of a member in need, please contact the Lodge or Chapter and we will do our best to help.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Thanks to all those who helped put out flags on Skyway for the July 4th holiday and to our Women of the Moose and Lodge members who served a free breakfast for all the crews from different organizations and individuals who put up the 2,000+ flags. Anyone who can help on the Adopt-A-Highway cleanup, please con-tact Henry Bomgardner at 877-2682. If you have any ideas for additional Community Service projects, please contact Steve Little (530) 872-1418.

Scheduled campouts are as follows:

1) Lake Almanor - Aug. 5-10 Trail Bosses: Ron and Billie Kohler Northshore Campground, currently 8 rigs signed up.

2) Plymouth - Sept. 15-20 Trail Bosses: Jim and Claire Allen. Sept. 15-20 49er RV Resort, currently 10 rigs signed up.

3) Red Bluff - Oct. 13-19 Trail Bosses: Tom and Jan Markle, and "Dad" Ron Phillips. Red Bluff RV Park, limited to 20 rigs.

Sign-up sheets are located in the hallway at the lodge. We would appreciate participation, as all the Trail Bosses are working hard to make these fun and special campouts.

Our next Mooov’n Moose meeting will be held on Aug. 2, 2013 @ 5:00pm, one week earlier than normal due to the Lake Almanor outing. We will again host the "Burn your own Steak" after the meeting. We served approximately 79 steak dinners at our first steak event in July.

Many thanks to those who helped prepare and serve meals, espe-cially Dave and Barbara Martin and Ray and Donna Knapp. They saved my cookies and taught me a lot!

BE PROUD TO SHOW YOUR CARD!

“SHOW YOUR CARD” GUIDELINES:

1. Show your card when ordering your first drink. 2. Show your card when ordering your meal in the dinning room. 3. Remember that guests cannot purchase drinks or food in the Lodge. You are responsible for your guest! (Suggestion: Buy them a couple of drink chips. Since they didn’t purchase them, they can use them to obtain their own drinks.) 4. It will be Lodge policy for our bartenders and cashiers to ask for your card.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! This year’s yard sale got off to a rocky start with me not knowing whether I would be able physically to do it again. Everyone rallied around and I would like to thank each and every one of you! If I tried to name each person I know I'd leave someone out so I'm just going to say THANK YOU!!! To those of you who searched high and low in closets, attics, ga-rages and basements to find items to donate I say Great Job! We had plenty of great treasures to sell! A special thank you to all who showed up, moved the items from the back room so that they could be priced and thank you to those who showed up early and patiently priced each item. Also to the set up crew who hauled the tables and items out to the picnic area and to those who walked around and sorted things into viewable catego-ries, you know who you are! To the cashiers who came early and stayed late in the hot weather and made sure our customers went away smiling and loaded down! And to those who came everyday to make sure we had enough help! Thank you! The yard sale was successful as was the bake sale due to the hard work of the WOTM. The Shady Lady had someone there each day and that also brought in revenue so thank you very much. I had much company in the RVers who came down to guard our treasures from would-be 'EARLY- n – LATE’ night shoppers! Thank you very much! Thank you to all our members who shopped the sale! We grossed over $3400. To ALL our members, it's great to belong to such a supportive Fraternity! Harold Lamb

Bake Sale Thanks! (from Debby & Kim)

THANK YOU to all those that made baked goodies for the Yard & Bake Sale. And THANK YOU to those that came and helped me staff the Bake Sale and Hot Dog stand. We turned in several hundred dollars from this effort.
