It appears that Xcel Energy is completing the gas line and meter

work. They will have then completed 18 driveways – 10 at the north

end of our Village and 8 at the south end. We expect Metro Pavers

to begin mill and overlay of the driveways in mid-September follow-

ing some concrete work which needs repair prior to the asphalt work

being done.

The driveway parallel to the community gardens is also failing and

being replaced. It will be inconvenient for our gardeners, and their

patience during this project is appreciated. Completing this project

while the paving company is here working on driveways is the most

cost-effective option. We hope that our neighborhood will be back

to ‘normal’ soon. Can hardly wait to be reminded of what ‘normal’

sounds and looks like!

We are planning to install more new sprinklers now that the Xcel

folks will have removed their equipment. There has also been some

recent vandalism to our sprinkler system. Heads have been removed

and nozzles turned so that water is directed toward areas that

shouldn’t be watered. It is an unfortunate event that wastes pre-

cious water and is a nuisance for our staff to repair. If you see any

unusual activity, please report it.

I would like to remind all homeowners that our Annual Homeowners

Meeting will take place at the Clubhouse on Tuesday, October 11 at

7:30 p.m. We are planning a neighborhood update, a full report

from your Board, and a guest speaker from Comcast. Your Directors

will also be presenting the KVTA budget for 2017. A recap of the

meeting will also appear in our November newsletter.

Hope to see you around our ‘quieter’ neighborhood in the coming

weeks with some ‘Indian summer-like’ weather.

An ad was placed in the Village newsletter asking if residents would be interested in forming a club – and they’ve been meeting every other month since. Averaging 8-10 at the meetings, different members recommend a book which they think the group would like, but Olivia commented, “Marilyn is our real inspiration, since she just comes up with so many good options. We cover fiction and non-fiction, but now we have a mar-velous new resource through the Arapahoe Library called ‘Book Club 2 Go.’ They provide a kit, which can be checked out for six weeks, that has 10 paperback copies of a book, a discussion guide with book reviews, author profiles, and discussion questions and other information. With over 100 titles to choose from, we have plenty of good reading ahead of us.”

Both Marilyn and Olivia said they would love to have more members. The next meeting is Thursday, September 15. [For more information, check out the Book Club announcement in this newsletter.]

In 2013, Harold Arnold saw an article in the paper about an interna-tional program called the “Little Free Library.” He took the article to Oliv-ia, and they started the process of establishing one here at the Village. Sponsored by the Book Club, the Board gave its approval, and with Har-old’s carpentering skills a unique little house, now filled with books, sits next to the Club House. The Village now is one of the 40,000 LFLs whose goal is “To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.” “We’ve been so pleased with its success – many people are using it. There are no rules – just take a book, read a book, keep or return a book. We would like more children’s books – so our younger residents have a reason to visit and start a new adventure in reading. Encourage every-one to stop by.”

Keeping Up the Neighborhood We Love!

Warren and his team do such a great job keeping up our grounds that it

seems that some of us forget that we too have responsibilities for keep-

ing up the walkways between our garages, keeping our gutters cleaned

and the upkeep of trees in our yards. So here are a couple reminders:

Walkways between the garages and areas in the alleys at the end of

the walkways need to be clear and neat. Warren’s team is not respon-

sible for maintaining these areas. Please take a look at your area and

trim back or remove overgrown bushes.

Gutter Cleaning: Due to all the beautiful trees in the Village at the

Knolls, most gutters really need to be cleaned each fall after the leaves

are off the trees. Look at your gutters and have them cleaned if they

need it. It will save you money in the long run from other damage that

can occur.

Trees in Yards: Please be aware that you are responsible for the up-

keep of trees in your yard.

*If you have a dead tree in your back yard, you must remove it for

both safety and aesthetic reasons.

* Please be thoughtful of your neighbors if your tree drops leaves or

other material in your neighbor’s yard. You may want to offer to clean

up their yard or remove a tree or part of a tree, if it is causing a prob-

lem and you are unable to address it by cleaning up after your tree.

* Also keep in mind, trees can cause problems with gas, sewer, and

water lines in your yard or your neighbor’s yard, and as the owner of

the tree, you are liable for damages.

We appreciate the way we all work together to keep

our community vibrant!

of E. Fremont Court. The newsletters are delivered to the volunteers

that help with distribution the weekend following the first Tuesday of
