The ”View” News Mr. Marshall’s Mind- by Jayda Carrasco It’s been a great first semester here at Parkview in our new building! So much is new but there are still those old favorites like Turkey Bingo which took place on November 15th. We had a great turn out and even though not everyone was able to win a Thanksgiving dinner, I think everyone had a good time. We gave away 40 complete Thanksgiving meals that night thanks to our sponsors (First United Methodist Church, Mark Carpenter Plumber and Southwest Cheese). On December 3 rd we had a fun day of wearing our PJ’s to school, making cars out of cardboard boxes, eating popcorn and watching a movie (Incredibles 2). This was a special day that we chose simply celebrated all out awesome students. All semester our students have been learning about character by learning to be polite. You may have heard your student talk to you about being a turtle and moving on to being a penguin, kangaroo, panda or even a panther. If you’ve heard this, you’ve heard about our Whole Brain Teaching effort which includes different levels which are identified by a particular animal and how fast that animal can go. This program has been adopted by each of our teachers and it’s making a big difference in our students. Each student at Parkview knows that if they come to school and show effort and improvement they will succeed. Well that’s what’s on my mind this month, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) did a great job working the concession stand at Turkey Bingo on November 15th . PAC sold pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, pickles, candy, chips, sodas and water. It was a huge success.   PAC will meet again in December to discuss events that will take place for the remainder of the school year. The PAC will continue to bring parents and staff together to accomplish goals set forth by the Parkview Elementary learning community. PAC will also continue to build good teacher, student, and parent relationships.

Grade Level of the Month-Second Grade

By Jaslynn Lopez and Laila Peralez

Why is having good character important?

Having good character is important because if you don’t have good character you will not have friends. Another reason having good character is important so you can show respect to others. The last way having good character is important so you can get complements.

How can you show good character?

You can show good character by helping people and by being a good friend. You can clean up messes and by helping somebody who is in need.

Something we should know about Second Grade!

Something we should know about 2nd Grade is that they are telling time, learning adding and subtracting. Second Grade is following Whole Brain Teaching and are kind. But the most exciting thing about 2nd grade is that 2nd grade is AWESOME and the best. They are very smart!

Kindergarten-by Carlos Herrera  Kindergarten is ready for the holidays by learning all about family traditions and focusing on ways we can be kind in our home, school, and community. We are excited to learn about a great hero tied to kindness Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In science, kindergarten students are learning about the changing weather. In math, we are learning about beginning addition. We are doing this by decomposing numbers into 2 parts to find the whole.

First Grade-by Daisha Loya  This month first grade is tackling addition and subtraction with fact families. We also will begin to work on fluency for addition and subtraction within 10.    We will combine reading, social studies, and science in a Christmas unit. We will also be exploring Christmas in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. We will also be exploring different Gingerbread Man stories and Christmas poetry such as The Night Before Christmas    Spelling and math homework will also be sent home still. Please check your classroom calendars or agendas for further information about christmas activities.

2nd Grade-Alicia Ceniceros  Second Grade is working on stories with beginning, middle, and ending using correct punctuation. We are focusing on word problems using two digit subtraction. Our Calendar Bait is shapes. We are learning about Christmas Around the World.

Third Grade Scholars-by Jonathan Chavez

During the month of November students were learning about the way Pilgrims lived long ago. Third grade students learned how to make butter. They took whipping cream and a plastic container with a lid. The students were surprised at how long it took them for the cream to turn into butter. Students were given a piece of bread so they could try their butter. The students were excited.
