“The world today is witnessing an escalating, sophisticated, global, virulent and lethal anti-Semitism…that has become
altered by international and domestic landscapes. In popular discourse, in media, using new tools of the internet and
social media, a rise in anti-semitism is real and not imaged…Combating anti-semitism is important in upholding human
rights but the emergence of new forms of this old hatred represents a threat to international security…
It is because of this striking feature that has led to the creation of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Anti-
semitism (ICCA) and the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Anti-semitism (CPCCA). As parliamentarians—as
democratically elected representatives from around the world and the embodiment of essential elements of a free and equal society—we have taken up the challenges faced in tackling the
blight of hatred and persecution found through the incarnation of anti-semitism in all its forms.”

The Autobiography of Jack the Ripper
as revealed to
Clanash Farjeon
A new, powerful, evocative, brilliantly written excursion into the literature and lore of “Ripperology ” The author explores the internal life and plumbs the abyss of sickness, describing in detail those aspects of Victorian London and the baser instincts of capitalism that incited him, and indeed everything that has made Jack the Ripper the unequalled incubus of horror and the imaginings that still inhabit our modern nightmares To present his savage theory of serial assassinations, the author has chosen, from all the possible suspects, that high-ranking alienist, psychologist, and disciple of Freud, Lyttleton Stewart Forbes Winslow The book eloquently exposes the stark contrast between the well-to-do districts of the capital of the British Empire and the stricken area of Whitechapel, scene of the assassinations and the infernal lodgings of the most downtrodden of that society This is a story with all the ingredients for those who are fascinated by the genre, but also with something different and more
Clanash Farjeon is the pen name of Alan Scarfe He is one of the most accomplished actors of the Canadian and UK stage, a director of wide renown, and a film director The former Associate Director of the Stratford Festival, Scarfe has appeared in numerous television and film roles, including Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5, Stargate and the Littlest Hobo

Cogwheels and Other Stories
Ryunosuke Akutagawa Translated by Howard Norman
From the literary giant of Japan, who is often referred to as the “Godfather of the Japanese short story”, and after whom the most coveted literary prize of Japan is named, the Akutagawa Prize, comes this collection of three of his greatest short stories
Akutagawa is probably best known for his story “Rashōmon” which was adapted for the screen by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. While he died at the young age of 35, the author penned well over 150 short stories, including “Cogwheels” which he wrote just before his suicide in 1927. Accompanied by stunning woodcuts by renowned artists Naoko Matsubara, and expertly translated by Howard Norman, the three stories compiled here reflect the haunting, precise and brilliant style of Akutagawa and offer a superb entry point to his work Haruki Murakami aptly described Akutagawa’s writing when he remarked, “the flow of his language is the best feature of Akutagawa’s style Never stagnant, it moves along like a living thing His choice of words is intuitive, natural – and beautiful ”
Ryunosuke Akutagawa was born in Tokyo in 1892 and during Taishō period became one of Japan’s most celebrated writers before his tragic suicide in 1927.
Naoko Matsubara is an internationally celebrated Japanese artist who now lives in Oakville, Ontario She has works in numerous collections around the world including the British Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Art Institute of Chicago and the Yale University Art Gallery
Howard Norman immersed himself the literature and culture of Japan, where he spent many years of his life, before moving to Toronto, Canada

Enigma In BlueKlaus Bytzek
From the mind of one of Canada’s most noted inventors and entrepreneurs, Klaus Bytzek, comes his surprising and fascinating first novel, Enigma In Blue At times whimsical, humorous and sometimes sarcastic, the novel’s vivid and intriguing characters make it an engaging and intense read Driven by mysterious events and strange circumstances, the complex relations of the central characters absorb the reader as the compelling plot unfolds Both poignant and well-crafted, Bytzek’s writing is an impressionistic portrait of an oddly traditional, immutable tribal family caught in a series of disturbing, almost other worldly, events
The novel begins with the discovery of a curious fragment of possible space debris found near the edge of a lake on the boundary between a family farm and a corporate retreat Who owns it? Is it valuable? Where is it from? What is it? The scientific community is stumped.
The discovery brings two sides into conflict as the family is dramatically pitted against the endless rivalries of ruthlessness corporate interests The escalating tensions leads to shifting loyalties, unsuccessful attempts to resolve the dispute and the spilling of blood As the fast paced plot unfolds, the main protagonist is forced to make difficult decisions to protect his family as he becomes embroiled in this unexpected discovery
Klaus Bytzek is one of Canada’s most acclaimed inventors and entrepreneurs Enigma In Blue is his first novel. He, his wife and daughter, divide their time between homes in Oakville, Canada, Florida and the Bahamas
