RecuperationWhenavehiclebrakes,thediscsconvertthekinetic

energyintothermalenergy,whichiswastedas

itcannotbeused.Witharecuperationsystem,

liketheoneintheAudiA7Sportback,thekinetic

energyisconvertedintousefulelectricalenergy.

Thewayitworksissimple.Whilethecariscoasting

orbraking,thealternatorvoltageisraisedabove

thelevelofthebasicelectricalsystem,which

enablesthealternatortogenerateelectricalenergy

andstoreittemporarilyinthebattery.Whenthe

vehicleaccelerates,thisenergyisusedtorelieve

theloadonthealternator,resultinginafuelsaving

ofupto3%.

A7Sportbackcomesasstandardwithaspecial

efficiencyprogramme,whichoffersup-to-the-

minuteadviceonwaystohelpimprovefuel

economyasyoudrive.Italsoshowsyouwhich

itemsinyourcarareusingenergy,andhowmuch

theyareusing,soyoucanmakeaninformedchoice

aboutwhichonestoswitchoff.

Automatic Start-Stop function Inheavytraffic,yourcarstillusesfuelandreleases

CO2,evenwhenitsstationary.Theautomatic

Start-Stopfunctioncounteractsthisproblemby

switchingofftheenginewhenyourcarcomestoa

standstill.Assoonasyoutouchtheclutch,thecar

restarts.InconjunctionwithTDIandTFSI,

ithelpssaveupto0.4litresoffuelevery100km.

PetrolFSIdirect-injectiontechnologyisauniqueAudiinnovationthat

wasoriginallydevelopedfortheLeMans24-hourendurance

racetodelivermorepowerandtorque,aswellasenhancedfuel

efficiency.Preciselytherightamountoffuelandairareinjected

intothecombustionchambers,enablingtheenginetobreathe

moreeasily.Itresultsinreducedheatlossandincreased

output,witharounda15%reductioninfuelconsumptionand

significantlylowerexhaustemissions.Wevealsodeveloped

TFSI,withturbocharging,whichcombinesFSItechnology

withforcedinductiongivingcarsanextrainjectionofpower.

DieselWeintroducedTDItotheroadsin1989,markingadeparture

fromthenoisy,fuel-thirstydieselenginesofthepast.Andsince

then,wevecontinuouslyrefinedit,recentlydevelopingcommon-

railtechnology.Underthissystem,aseriesofpiezoinjectors

useelectricalchargetopreciselycontroltheamountoffuel

injectedintotheengine.Aswellasreducingnoise,thisallows

combustiontohappenatalowertemperature,withlessoxygen,

whichlowersemissions.
