Today our Church celebrates The Ascension of Our Lord and as a nation we celebrate Mother’s Day. Two great reasons to be filled with joy and blessing.
First, “The Ascension of Our Lord” marks the 40th day in our Easter journey. With the first disciples we have walked with and witnessed
the saving power of Jesus Christ risen and alive. This celebration is final step of each of our lives where we, like Jesus, return in to the Father…at least this is what we hope. The Cate-chism of the Catholic Church reminds us, “This final stage stays closely linked to the first, that is, to his descent from heaven in the Incarnation. On-ly the one who "came from the Father" can return to the Father: Christ Je-sus. "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heav-en, the Son of man." Left to its own natural powers humanity does not have access to the "Father's house", to God's life and happiness. Only Christ can open to man such access that we, his members, might have confi-dence that we too shall go where he, our Head and our Source, has pre-ceded us.” (#661) (Continued on page 5...)

Primero, "La Ascensión de Nuestro Señor" marca el día 40 en nuestra jornada de la Pascua. Con los primeros discípulos caminamos y presenciamos el poder salvador de Jesucristo resucitado y vivo. Esta celebración es el paso final de cada una de nuestras vidas donde, como Jesús, volvemos al Padre ... al menos esto es lo que esperamos. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos recuerda: "Esta última etapa permanece estrechamente unida a la primera es decir, a la bajada desde el cielo realizada en la En-carnación. Solo el que "salió del Padre" puede "volver al Padre": Cristo. "Nadie ha subido al cielo sino el que bajó del cielo, el Hijo del hombre". Dejada a sus fuerzas naturales, la humanidad no tiene acceso a la "Casa del Padre", a la vida y a la felicidad de Dios. Si venimos de nuestro Padre Celestial y regresamos a Él de una manera muy especial, nuestras madres te-rrenales comparten las mismas bendiciones. Cuando Dios nos formó en el vientre de nuestra madre, ella participó con Dios en la bendición y la creación de una nueva vida. Con esto viene el deber y la responsabili-dad del amor y, como nos recuerda el Papa Francisco en "Amoris Laetitia" (La Alegría del Amor) "De hecho, las madres son el antídoto más fuerte ante la difusión del individualismo egoísta [...] Son ellas quienes testi-monian la belleza de la vida. Sin duda, «una sociedad sin madres sería una sociedad inhumana, porque las madres saben testimoniar siempre, incluso en los peores momentos, la ternura, la entrega, la fuerza moral. Las madres transmiten a menudo también el sentido más profundo de la práctica religiosa: en las primeras oraciones, en los primeros gestos de devoción que aprende un niño[...] Sin las madres, no sólo no habría nuevos fieles, sino que la fe perdería buena parte de su calor sencillo y profundo. [...] Queridísimas mamás, gracias, gracias por lo que sois en la familia y por lo que dais a la Iglesia y al mundo. La madre, que ampara al niño con su ternura y su compasión, le ayuda a despertar la confianza, a experimentar que el mundo es un lugar bueno que lo recibe, y esto permite desarrollar una autoestima que favorece la capacidad de intimidad y la empatía. The hope and faith we experience through the power of God’s invitation to be with him at all times and in all places enriches our lives with love.
If we come from and return to our Heavenly Father than in a very special way our earthly mothers share in this same blessings. As God formed us in our mother’s wombs she participated with God in the blessing and creating of new life. With this comes the duty and responsibility of love and as Pope Francis reminds in “Amoris Laetitia” (The Joy of Love) ““Mothers are the strongest antidote to the spread of self-centered individ-ualism... It is they who testify to the beauty of life”. Certainly, “a society without mothers would be dehuman-ized, for mothers are always, even in the worst of times, witnesses to tenderness, dedication and moral strength. Mothers often communicate the deepest meaning of religious practice in the first prayers and acts of devotion that their children learn... Without mothers, not only would there be no new faithful, but the faith itself would lose a good part of its simple and profound warmth... Dear mothers: thank you! Thank you for what you are in your family and for what you give to the Church and the world”. A mother who watches over her child with tenderness and compassion helps him or her to grow in confidence and to experience that the world is a good and welcoming place. This helps the child to grow in self-esteem and, in turn, to develop a capacity for intimacy and empathy.” (#174-175)

Adult Faith Formation Faith Formation is not something that ends in 6th grade. In fact, it is life-long. Here at St Lucy we offer so many opportunities for you. Here are some on-Going Catholic Adult Formation opportunities:
• RCIA: Preparation for Adults looking to join the Catholic Church through full Initia-tion and receiving Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
• Marriage Preparation for Engaged Couples/civilly Married: Marriage prepara-tion for newly engaged couples and those looking to "convalidate" their civil mar-riages are welcome to attend our quarterly marriage preparation sessions and re-treat.
• "Catholic Netflix"- www.formed.org: St Lucy has a FREE parish subscrip-tion for ALL PARISHIONERS who want to grow their faith through an online media platform. Our parish subscription code is 9FH34Z. We encourage you to register. The Formed.org app is now available on Android and Apple devices.
• Parent Faith Formation: Bi-monthly meetings for parents of children paired with our Faith Formation pro-gram. This year we are studying Bishop Barron's Catholicism Series.
• Baptism Preparation for Infants: Every month we offer a Thursday evening class retreat for parents and Godparents of infant children looking to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
• Bible Studies: Throughout the year we offer series of Bible Studies on various topics on Monday eve-nings or Thursday mornings.

VACATION BIBLE CAMP 2018/CAMPAMENTO DE BIBLIA 2018 June 25th to June 29th This year the Vacation Bible Camp “Shipwrecked” will engage your children through creative and fun activities that anchor kids in the truth that Jesus carries them through life’s storms!

MSDYR Theme: The theme is "Venture," which means a risky or daring journey. SIDEWALK ADVOCATES FOR LIFE
Would you like to learn how to help women in unplanned, crisis pregnancies choose LIFE for their babies? Our local Catholic Pregnancy Help Center, St Juan Diego Women’s Center, is hosting a FREE training, right here at Our Lady of Peace. Together we will learn how “Love Saves Lives”, to pray and counsel young wom-en and men at the time they are most vulnerable and absolutely need our help.
Our next training will be held on May 19, 2018 from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Peace, in the Family Learning Center. We have concurrent sessions in English and Spanish. SCRIPTURE STUDIES
The Bible Study Group will be offering a 5 week course on Scripture and the Rosary starting Monday evening, May 7, at 7 pm in PAC B. The same course will be offered on Tuesday mornings starting May 8 at 10 am in PAC B. Five Scripture passages from the New Testament will be explored for each set of the rosary's mysteries: the Joyful, the Sorrowful, the Lu-minous, and the Glorious. Suggested donation is $20.
