Weekly
Marriage Tip
Store clerks are taught to say, “Have a nice day!” to each customer. The marriage version is “How was your day?” Such a simple question, but it says, “I care about you and how you spend the time when we’re apart.” Listen carefully to the answer.
REGISTRATION & OFFERTORY ENVELOPES
All those attending St. Joseph’s Parish who are working
and are over the age of 18 should register as a single
adult or a family unit. Even if you are living with your
parents you are entitled to be a full member of St.
Joseph’s Parish. This will enable you to make your own
contributions through offertory envelopes to support your
parish.
REMINDER
I remind you, that Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018
is the date to fulfill what we used to call "Easter
Duty". “All the faithful, after they have been initiated
into the Eucharist are obliged to receive Holy
Communion at least once a year” (Can. 920).
“Those in serious sin are also bound to go to confession at least once a year. (Can. 989).
Small Token of Appreciation All mothers will be presented with a flower as they leave the Church this weekend.
A
Mother’s
Day
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for your special gift of mothers and
for the example of your unconditional love they
share with their children. Lord, today we pray that
you will protect and guide mothers everywhere
and that you will grant them your wisdom in
loving and teaching their children.
Thank you for the mothers who played with us,
taught us, nurtured us, listened to us, tried to
understand us and who prayed for us.
O God, who have commanded us to honor our
father and our mother; in your mercy have pity
also on the soul of my mother, and forgive her
trespasses; and make me to see her again in the joy
of everlasting brightness. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.
Solemn Evening Prayer - May 20, 2018 On Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018, the Archbishop will preside at Solemn Evening Prayer in St. Mary's Cathedral to celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost and to bring our
formal Synod process to a close. The celebration will begin at 4:00 pm with a reception to follow in the Cathedral Parish Hall. All are welcome to this important celebration in the life of our local church!
We honor MARY –
especially in May God’s beautiful plan of
redemption called upon the
faith, hope, and love of Mary.
Because she said yes, Christ
was born and we are
redeemed. It makes sense
that those who confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and
Saviour also show honor and respect to his mother,
Mary. And if we love Jesus Christ, we love Mary, his
mother, because she gave him life and nurtured and
cared for him until his public ministry began.
Everyone is encouraged to pray the Rosary and
perhaps even more meaningful to pray with their
family especially in May.
Congratulations & Blessings! Thirty-three children from our Catechism
Program are receiving their First Holy Communion. This is a very important
celebration for the entire parish community as we continue to witness to
these First Communicants how we live
and practice our own faith in the Eucharist which is the centre and summit of our Christian life. Blessings and
congratulations to the following children and their families!

Thanks to the KC’s for donating $100 last month.
Please return your envelope with your financial contribution to the office via the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. We appeal to all parishioners to support this Appeal but especially to those who have never contributed!!!
Traditionally the minimum donation for Sharing God’s Gifts campaign is $300.00. You can start or continue your consistent monthly use of the Sharing God’s Gifts envelopes in your boxed set of Offertory envelopes with cash or cheques (payable to Sharing God’s Gifts). Or you can use the Sharing God’s Gifts envelope (attached to the bulletin 2 weeks ago; or found at the entrances of the church) which can be returned via the collection basket as soon as possible. In addition to cash or cheques using this special envelope you can make monthly donations with visa, mastercard and pre-authorized debit. Please return to the parish office – do not mail to the Archdiocese. Income tax receipts will be issued at the beginning of 2019. Any funds raised in excess of our target will be returned directly to our Parish to support our local projects.
The Ascension of Our Lord
The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles,
ascended bodily into Heaven. The reality of Christ's Ascension is so important that the creeds (the basic statements of belief) of Christianity all affirm, in the words of the Apostles' Creed, that "He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead." Christ's bodily Ascension foreshadows our own entrance into Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment. In redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our souls but began the restoration of the material world itself to the glory that God intended before Adam's fall. The Feast of the Ascension marks the beginning of the first novena, or nine days of prayer. Before His Ascension, Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to His apostles. Today, Catholics recall that first novena by praying the Novena to the Holy Spirit between Ascension and Pentecost, asking for the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
