The main purpose of the Backlog Maintenance Project on the Stellenbosch University’s Tygerberg Campus is not only to catch up on maintenance on these 40 year old institutional buildings, but also to improve the efficiency and utilization of the spaces inside.
In other words it should be seen as a general upgrade in space and modernity.
It is a privilege to work with Roelof Rabe Architects on this project who has
graciously allowed us to publish this project.
As the building is in use by students and academic personnel all the time, it is important to specify ironmongery that can be used as temporary solutions and refitted later as permanent solutions.It is also a privilege to work on a project where ‘new life’ is being breathed into buildings through the use of the latest design offerings from the ironmongery market to comply with the latest building and fire regulations.

The Electronic Locking Cylinder:
The profile double locking cylinder is equipped with two electronic cylinder halves. Optionally available with one cylinder half as overturn-protected.
The check of the key coding and the release of the locking process take place by means of the electronic module. The electronic locking cylinder does not
require any wiring and does not need its own power supply, because this is provided from the battery of the key. The new eCLIQ locking cylinders are designed as a modular system with which the cylinder lengths can be easily set up between 56 mm and 240 mm.
With a newly integrated lubricant reserve, the cylinders are also maintenance-free for up to 200,000 cycles.The electronic key:A chip integrated in the head makes each eCLIQ key a unique electronic device. Data transmission is powered by an easily replaced standard battery. With an LED function display, both optical and acoustic signalling are provided for access entitlements, time zones and battery status

ASSA ABLOY South Africa opened their hearts to children in need
ASSA ABLOY South Africa opened it’s heart to charity by supporting the CEO SleepOut™ 2015 challenge.
The challenge called for ’business leaders to sleep on the street for one night to raise both awareness and funds, and bring hope and a home to South Africa’s most vulnerable children.’ John Middleton, Market Region Manager for ASSA ABLOY Africa & Middle East, braved the cold on Thursday night, 18th June, to raise funds for Girls and Boys Town.

ASSA ABLOY (SA) not only helped raise funds for this great cause, but we also assisted them in their security where we managed the access control of all CEOS, Media, Staff and Security guards to make sure everything was smooth sailing and to make sure that no one who was not on the list was allowed access. This was a great help to make sure there was no security risk for the Mayor of JHB, Premier of Gauteng and all the CEO’s participating. We also donated the scarves that were used and later went to charity.
