The Five Phases of the Appreciative Process

    Discerning Corporate Calling

    1. Discern:

What is the work that we are called to do? What is the community calling us to be and to do?

    2. Discover:

Discover our positive core How did we come to where we are? What are the personal and shared stories of

    our journey to this place?

What are the visions for the organization that we hold in our hearts? What are themountains we might climb, the rivers we might swim (or raft down)? When have we experienced great alignment of our inner values and our outer

    work?

    3. Dream:

Opportunity map: What might our organization look like in one year, three years, and five years?

Vision a possible future in terms of five areas: structure/infrastructure, programs, finances, community/connections, resource and capacity

    4. Design:

Who, What, Where, When, and How? Critical partnerships, amount needed, allocation of resources, timeline

    5. Deliver:

Doing our mission in the world Visioning the ideal To what visions are we willing to commit without hesitation?
