Product Information
XPRESSCLAD PX40 raises the bar in negative detail cladding systems. The XPRESSCLAD PX40 rail system combines ease of installation to achieve a 40mm bottom to top ventilated cavity. XpressClad PX40 has a durability of 50 years on all aluminium profiles. XPRESSCLAD PX40 is fully tested to NZS 4284 with a ULS of 4.5kPa and taken up to +9.75kPa and -5.2kPa. It has a PS1 and LBA Durability Appraisal. There are two methods of fixing our range of cladding sheets onto the XPRESSCLAD PX40 rail system; The full SikaTack Panel-50 secret adhesive fixing system, or adhesive fix with 2x LSA Rivet fixing anchor points. Both methods allow for a variety of surface finishes including a clear seal.
Adhesive fixed cladding panels on XPRESSCLAD PX40 have no restriction on LRV. XPRESSCLAD PX40 is ideal for re-cladding an existing building or on new buildings.

Remove protective foil off SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape at horizontal joint locations only
enough to enable installation of HJF flashings.
Install HJF Flashings to fixing tape.
Allow 3mm clearance from any flashings to sheets.
Place panel in required position without contacting SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape. Once
alligned correctly, press panel firmly into position before the adhesive forms a skin.
Apply a thin but covering coat of Sika Primer-210 to back of soffit sheet with Sika
Cleaner PCA pad. Allow a flash-off time of minimum 30mins (max. 2hrs).
ADHESIVE FIX SHEETS
Maintain ground clearances. Bottom of sheets to finish 35mm clear of finished
deck surface or 100mm clear of paved surfaces or 175mm clear of unpaved surfaces.
FIX CLADDING SHEETS
Dry fit sheets.
Cut sheets and sand off burr.
Sheets to oversail bottom plate by 50mm.
Sand Parklex sheets on back of sheet where the adhesive will make contact.
CUT & DRY FIT SHEETS
Apply Sika Aktivator-205 with a clean, lint free cloth to back of soffit sheet and wipe
away in one direction only. Allow a flash-off time of 10mins (max. 2hrs).
Do not pull protective foil off SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape at this time.
Shake Sika Primer-210 bottle until steel ball is clearly audible.
Apply SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape to all aluminium, refer details 7.1.01 & 7.1.02.
Apply SikaTack Panel-50 adhesive with nozzle supplied, refer details 7.1.01 & 7.1.02.
Ensure a 5mm gap between the adhesive bead and the fixing tape.
Remove protective foil off SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape.

1 PURPOSE AND GENERAL INFORMATION
This document contains recommendations and hints for the application of the SikaTack® Panel-50 System for Pacbld Cavity Systems. This guideline is relevant for the following products: SikaTack® Panel-50 1-part silicone adhesive
The information herein is offered for general guidance only. Since structural bonding, applications are critical applications and conditions as well as substrates may vary greatly, customers and applicators must test the suitability of the product for each specific project and contact Sika for advice.
For detailed information about specific silicone and polyurethane products and surface pre-treatment agents, please refer to the most recent Product Data Sheets (PDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) (see www.sika.com).

The SikaTack® Panel System is an adhesive system for economic and concealed installation of wall cladding. Part of the system is the elastic adhesives, for long and durable fixation of the panels even under harsh climate conditions. In addition, the double-sided adhesives tape for keeping the distance between panel and substructure and for immediate fixation of the panel. Finally, the system contains corresponding products for the pretreatment of substrates. The SikaTack® Panel System has proven its suitability for internal and exterior wall cladding in thousands of façade projects and under various climatic conditions. The SikaTack® Panel System is used on all common panels and substructures.
3 DESIGN AND JOINT DIMENSIONING
Joints must be properly dimensioned, as changes are no longer possible after assembling and installation or adhesive application, respectively. Basis for calculation of the necessary joint dimensions are the technical values of the adhesive and the adjacent building materials, the exposure of the building elements, their construction, size and weight as well as external loads (wind, snow, temperature, etc.).
Generally, due to the way of installation, the joint has the dimension of 12 mm width and 3 mm thickness.

4 WORKING PLACE CONDITIONS The working place must be as dust-free and dry as possible. All substrates and adhesives must never be exposed to direct sun radiation, rain, snow or other direct weathering impacts. The optimum application temperature of the products is between 15 °C and 30 °C. As this may be difficult to comply with on construction site, the SikaTack® Panel-50 System may be processed within 5 – 35 °C. The relative humidity should not exceed 90%. After installation, the temperature may not fall below +5 °C for five hours. The temperature of the components to be bonded (façade panels, sub-frames) must be at least 3 °C higher than the dew point of the air, to avoid condensation on the surfaces.
The skin time (time passed before the adhesive has formed a skin) stated on the product datasheets are based on controlled laboratory conditions (typically 23°C, 50% R.H.). In conditions with higher relative humidity, the skin time will be reduced, and will shorten the available time to bring the components to be bonded together safely. Refer to section 9 of this document for more information on determining the skin time for the conditions you are currently working in.

5 SYSTEM STRUCTURE
5.1 VERTICAL CARRIER RAIL SYSTEM
The substructure must be approved by the responsible supervisory body and in line with the relevant local requirements. For any kind of coatings on the substructure, the suitability has to be tested and approved for the specific application. The substructure should be able to compensate the thermal expansion of the panels to minimize the thermal dilatation applied to the elastic bonding joints.

5.2 DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS
Design and dimension of the substructure depends on the constructional situation and used system. The distances between the sub-frame profiles and their width are determined by the load requirements and by the type of panel used. Each project requires specific design detailing. The framing must be designed by others in accordance with all relevant standards and appropriate consideration granted to design and manufacture. Project specific documented calculations and drawings should be issued by a qualified and competent person. Sika is unable to provide or approve designs other than the specific interface between rainscreen panels and the vertical sub-frame profile incorporating the SikaTack® Panel adhesive system. Please refer to the appropriate Pacbld Cavity System Full manual and architect; details, which may involve specific design or review by a facade engineer.

5.3 PANELS
The rain screen panel brand must have proof of suitability for use ideally with local accreditation (local accreditation body). Relevant panel manufacturer’s instructions with respect to structural adhesive fixation must be adhered to and incorporated within the full rain screen build up design.
Please refer to the appropriate Pacbld Cladding Panel product information
Movement joints: For the correct design and dimensioning of the system and for correct anchoring of the vertical aluminum substructure, all standard building regulations for cladding apply. The vertical aluminum profiles must be parallel and even in order to ensure uniform, stress free adhesion of the cladding panels. Joints in the substructure must not be bonded over by panels. The distances between the panels at joints must be sufficiently wide to avoid compression of the panels due to thermal movement. The data of the panel manufacturer is to be compiled with expansion coefficient of the substructure. Sufficiently large openings for ventilation must be provided at the top and bottom of the system. For the fixation of the direct substructure on the load bearing building shell, any transfer of loads or movements from the building shell to the vertical substructure and the adhesive joint has to be avoided.
These system configurations must be fully complied with as described and details and may not be changed.

6 SURFACE PRE-TREATMENT
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease, release agents and dust. Do not contaminate pre-treated surfaces during any phase of installation. If contamination occurs, surfaces have to be cleaned again. The information in table 1 is offered for general guidance only. Advice on specific pre-treatment methods based on laboratory adhesion tests will be given on request.
Sika has to test the adhesion of SikaTack® Panel-50 System on project basis on production-run samples of the original materials used in the specific project. The use of the surface pre-treatment agents recommended in the laboratory report is mandatory; otherwise any guaranty for the adhesion behavior of SikaTack® Panel System adhesives isn’t valid.
The tables below this page apply as general guidance only. For each project, adhesion test on the actual panel type must be conducted and the suitable sequence of pre- treatment steps must be followed, what is given by the test report. Please ask your local Sika representative for specific advice.

6.2 APPLICATION OF Sika® Aktivator-205
Sika® Aktivator-205 is not a simple cleaning solvent but contains a bonding agent, which forms an activating film on the substrate surface.
1. Moisten a clean, dry, oil-free and lint-free cloth or felt with Sika® Aktivator-205 and apply it on the surface. Make sure to turn the cloth or paper to expose new surface, or replace it regularly in order to avoid wiping any residues back onto the surface.
2. The required minimum drying times are given in the latest product data sheet. In case of doubt, contact Sika’s Technical Service.
3. If pretreated parts are not bonded / sealed immediately, protect them against subsequent contamination. 4. Adhesives should be applied within 2 hours after the application of Sika® Aktivator-205, otherwise the procedure as
described above has to be repeated before bonding. Pre-treating procedure can be repeated once only. For more details about Sika® Aktivator-205, refer to the actual Product Data Sheet (PDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
Tightly re-seal container with the inner plastic liner immediately after each use. Sika® Aktivator-205 shall only be used within one month after opening the can. Discard any Sika® Aktivator-205 that has become opaque instead of transparent, has gelled or separated.
6.3 APPLICATION OF Sika® Primer-210 Sika® Primer-210 shall always be applied after the surfaces have been properly cleaned and dust free and / or pre-treated with Sika® Aktivator-205 as advised. Ideal application and surface temperature ranges between 15°C and 25°C (60°F - 75°F). 1. Apply a thin but covering coat of Sika® Primer-210 with a felt, clean lint-free cloth or foam applicator. Make
sure that this single application gives adequately dense coverage. 2. Let the primer dry for a minimum time of 30 minutes. 3. If pretreated parts are not bonded / sealed immediately, protect them against subsequent contamination.
Adhesives shall be applied within 2 hours after the application of Sika® Primer-210. For more details about Sika® Primer-210 refer to the actual Product Data Sheet (PDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Sika® Primer-210 once only. Priming process must not be repeated! Tightly re-seal container immediately after each use. Sika® Primer-210 shall only be used within one month after opening the can. Discard any primer that has gelled or separated.

7 PROCESSING AND PRODUCT APPLICATION
SikaTack® Panel-50 adhesive is applied manually directly from cartridges or unipacks with hand or compressed air guns.
The adhesive must be applied evenly and free of air bubbles. The 1-component products form a skin after a certain time (skin time, skin-over time), which varies with ambient humidity and temperature.
Apply SikaTack® Panel-50 adhesive in a triangular bead by using the triangular nozzle supplied (width 8 mm, height 10 mm) with at least 5 mm gap to the fixing tape and to the side of the sub-frame profiles. Some application trials will help to find the correct application speed that will form the correct joint dimension.

8 APPLICATION STEPS
The temperature of the building components to be bonded (cladding panels, sub-frame profiles, etc.) must be at least 3 °C higher than the dew point temperature and within the ambient temperature: +5 °C min. / +35 °C max.
Mark precisely where the first panel must be bonded on the substructure or use a reference which is fixed on the substructure.
Record all relevant information for the job according to the form: Daily Record - Cladding Installation and Handling on page 15
The surface to be bonded must be clean, dry and free from grease. Abrading with an abrasive pad whererecommended (e.g. Scotch Brite very fine) or mechanical grinding of the surfaces to be bonded with a very fine grinder, (grain 80).
Remove dust with a lint-free paper towel or cleaning paper.
Activate the bond face with Sika® Aktivator-205 (or otherif required). Use a clean lint-free paper towel or cleaning paper and wipe in one direction only (dirty cloths must be replaced).
Allow a flash off time of 10 minutes and maximal 2 h. .
Shake SikaTack® Primer-210 thoroughly (the movement of the steel balls in the container must be clearly audible). Apply one thin coat of Sika® Primer-210 uniformly over the whole surface with a felt pad.
Allow a flash off time of at least 30 minutes and maximal 2 h.

Apply SikaTack® Panel Fixing Tape over the whole length of the vertical sections and parallel to the edges. Do not pull off the protective foil at this time.
Apply the SikaTack® Panel-50 adhesive in a triangular bead by using the triangular nozzle supplied with at least 5 mm gap to the fixing tape and to the side of the sub- frame profile.
Assembly time: SikaTack® Panel-50 < 10 min
Remove the protective foil on the SikaTack® Panel Fixing Tape. Place the cladding panel in the required position first, without the panel touching the fixing tape. After, press them firmly until they contact the SikaTack® Panel Fixing Tape.

9 QUALITY ASSURANCE
Perfect results require carrying out each processing step perfectly. Sika therefore recommends that the applicators install a strict quality control system. Quality control is the primary responsibility of the processor / applicator but Sika will assist customers in setting up a comprehensive program and train staff to carry out the mandatory tests.

9.1 SKIN TIME AND TACK-FREE TIME
With 1-part adhesives, check the skin time and tack-free time as follows: 1. Apply with a spatula the adhesive to paper or film in a thickness of about 3 to 4 mm and start timer. 2. Test every three minutes whether the adhesive surface has changed by probing with a clean fingertip.
Skin time is the point at which the adhesive no longer sticks to the finger (picture 4 – 8). Tack-free time is the point at which the surface feels dry (no longer tacky).
The skin time and tack-free time given in the Product Data Sheets were determined under standard climatic conditions (23 °C / 73 °F, 50 % relative humidity). Higher temperature and higher humidity reduce the skin time and tack-free time what affects application life of the adhesive.

9.2 PEEL ADHESION TEST
This test is used to check adhesion of SikaTack® Panel adhesives in combination with the used cleaning and pre- treatment steps on samples of the original panel and sub-frame substrates when exposed to a peeling force.
1. Apply the required cleaning and pre-treatment step on the original samples exactly as in the site application.
Take into account specific flash-off time. 2. Extrude a bead of SikaTack® Panel-50 adhesive of at least 150 mm length onto the prepared substrate samples. 3. Store the test specimens at room temperature for minimum 72 hours. 4. Carry out peel adhesion testing by cutting approx. 30 mm of one end of the bead from the substrate with a
sharp knife or glass scraper. 5. Fold back the loose end at an acute angle of about 30°. The bead is held with one hand and pulled away from
the surface so maximum tension is maintained manually. 6. Simultaneously a cut is placed every few millimeters at an angle of around 45° several times and while keep on
pulling. Make sure that the cut completely goes through the bead to the substrate. 7. Repeat this procedure until at least 50 % of the bead length has been tested.
After 72 hours, the bead must not detach from the substrate during pulling (≥ 95 % cohesive failure).

1.0 Swisspearl and Parklex Façade – Prefinished panels Maintenance All exterior surfaces require an annual clean. - A thorough wash with soapy water. - Caustic based preparations, mechanical or abrasive cleaning should never be used. - Refer to Pacific Build Supply Cleaning Advice Technical literature for cleaning procedures for specific products. 2.0 Cladding System Inspection An annual inspection of the cladding should be undertaken at the same time as the annual clean. - Check stop end flashings around decks and windows and report any adhesion failures of sealants. - Re-apply sealants at any sign of cracking or delamination. - Check parapet flashings and report any damage. Re-apply sealants to parapet flashings at any sign of cracking or
delamination. - Wash down horizontal and vertical aluminium profiles so as to remove all debris, grime and particles. - Visually inspect adhesive seals every five years. Report any degradation to Pacific Build Supply Ltd. - Ensure ventilation and drainage holes above windows, doors and soffit junctions are kept clear.

restricted to an LRV of not less than 40%. Flexible Wall Underlay may be used without a Rigid Wall Underlay where the ULS is less than ± 1550 Pa.
Where wind pressures exceed ± 1550 Pa use a rigid wall underlay of Pacbld RWU.

Ensure Flashing tape has been applied to the junction from rigid wall under (RWU) to underside of Soffit framing.
Refer to detail PX40.RU.AF.40.3.12.
Maintain 20mm minimum air gap for ventilation.
If using Pacbld Soffit PSX System install 103x20x0.7 Unequal ‘Z’ Flashing or 50x50 Angle Deflector at Soffits. Refer to Pacbld Soffit PSX Manual.
For all other soffits install a 50x50mm Angle Deflector.

Step 3: XVC40 Cavity Vermin Closer

XVC40 vermin closer
Install XVC40 vermin closers to locations where XVR40and XZR40 start at base (15mm minimum below bottom plate) and finish at the top of facade. Refer detail PX40.RU.AF.40.3.04 & PX40.RU.AF.40.3.12.
If cavity rails need packing, XVC40 should be installed with the long leg out & trimmed off to back of cladding.
Join the XVC40 vermin closer at XVR40’s only and do not overlap. Gaps between lengths should not exceed 3mm.
Notch out XVC40’s at corners to ensure that it is continuous and any gaps do not exceed 3mm to the wall underlay or the back of the cladding.
XVC40 vermin closers need to be installed under all sill flashings. Turn ups will be necessary to close cavity to underside of sill flashing.
XVC40 vermin closers are to be installed underneath all Parapet capping's. Refer detail PX40.RU.AF.40.6.01.

Step 4: Ventilated Cavity Fire Barriers – C.F.B. (If Required)

Install Pacbld Ventilated Cavity Fire Barriers (C.F.B.) (6mm x 75mm x 1000mm) at all inter‐storey control joints and around windows as required.
Refer to details PX40.RU.AF.40.9.41 – 40.9.61 Ensure any use of ‘H’ packers to pack out the system
does not create a cavity greater than 50mm Fix C.F.B.’s with 40mm x 10g CSK SS screws at
250mm maximum centres. C.F.B.’s should be fixed along their centre line Ensure the label side is facing into the cavity. Adjacent lengths shall be tightly butted together. C.F.B.’s installed around windows should be
continuous and XVR40’s should be housed out to allow the C.F.B. to run behind uninterrupted.
C.F.B.’s should be installed tight against fins of XZRs.

Step 5: Vertical Profiles – XVR40’s and XZR40’s
Ensure unequal ‘Z’ flashing is installed if using Pacbld Soffit PXS system. Otherwise install 50x50 Aluminium Deflector. See detail PX40.RU.AF.40.3.12.
Install XVR40’s at vertical expressed joint locations. Stop 15mm minimum below bottom plate. Check window details for locations of rails at those
points. Do not install XVR40’s above window heads until the
head flashings are installed (Refer Step 8). Install XZR40’s for intermediate support at maximum
600 centres. Depending on SLS and ULS. Stop 15mm minimum below bottom plate. Every punching in XVR40 and XZR40 to contain a
screw and be between 50‐100mm from rail ends. Install XPF pocket fillers to all XVR40 rails.

Leave a 3mm expansion gap between profiles generally (at centre if between two solid points).
Fit XVR40 rail for vertical joints refer PX40.RU.AF.40.3.04 with 10g x 40mm SS screws @ 250 centres into studs, head lintels and sill plates.
‘H’ packers up to max. 10mm may be required to pack rails straight and plumb on untrue framing substrate.
If packing out and Cavity Fire Barriers (C.F.B.’s) are required the system must not be packed out any more than 7mm to ensure a maximum overall depth of 50mm is not exceeded. Refer Step 4.
Screws must protrude through the ‘H’ packers and be sized to penetrate framing structure by 32mm min.

Prior to installing sill flashings ensure that the XVC40’s vermin closers, XVR40’s and XZR40’s cavity rails are fitted and stopped below sill by the required distance to maintain the 20mm minimum clearance to the underside of the sill flashing once installed refer PX40.40.1.16 and 40.4.21.
Measure trimmed opening for window and ensure enough length is left at each end for the required 20mm minimum overlap beyond window jambs and for required turn‐ups, refer PX40.RU.AF.40.1.16.

Check all variable dimensions indicated that are determined by the specific window suite specified and its offset from rigid wall underlay.
Measure window and ensure enough length is left on at each end of head flashing for the required 20mm minimum overlap beyond window jambs and for required minimum 10mm turn‐ups to create stop ends, refer PX40.40.1.15

Apply 100mm Base Tape to top of head flashing.

It is essential that minimums where given are adhered too and that where no maximum is indicated that turn ups and turn downs are stopped within 2mm of either cavity rails or cladding.

Before applying Pacbld Refined, Swisspearl or Parklex sheets.(refer to the XpressClad PX40 check sheet)
check for tears in wall underlay and repair.check sill tapes on window sills and reveals.check for tapes on window flashings to window head and mid floor joints .check for 3mm expansion joints between all rails generally. (At centre if between two solid points).check that XVC40’s are installed to top and base of XVR40s and XZR40s.check that every punching for screws contains a screw, and 50‐100mm from ends.check all vertical joints have a XPF pocket filler installed.
For Pacbld Refined: check paint system. Pacbld Refined has to be balanced by using a breathable vapour‐open coating, such as a water‐based acrylic paint. For other coatings contact Pacific Build Supply. For advice on epoxy or impervious anti‐graffiti type coatings contact Pacific Build Supply.
Proceed to cut and dry fit your sheets.

CHECK CLIMATIC CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION (REFER TO SIKATACK PANEL 50 SYSTEM GUIDELINE)
Apply Sika Aktivator‐205 with a clean, lint free cloth to aluminium rails and wipe away in one direction only. Allow a flash‐off (dry) time of 10mins (max. 2hrs).
Apply SikaTack Panel Primer to aluminium rails with Sika Cleaner PCA pad in a thin but covering coat. Allow a flash‐off time of 30mins (max. 2hrs).
Apply Sika Aktivator‐205 with a clean, lint free cloth to back of cladding sheet and wipe away in one direction only. Allow a flash‐off time of 10mins (max. 2hrs).
Shake Sika Primer‐210 bottle until steel ball is clearly audible. Apply a thin but covering coat of Sika Primer‐210 to back of cladding sheet with Sika
Cleaner PCA pad. Allow a flash‐off time of minimum 30mins (max. 2hrs).

Step 16: Install HJF ‐ Horizontal Joint Flashings

HJF horizontal joint flashing
Prep Rails as per Step 13. Install Tape as per Step 14. Determine position of the horizontal joint and
mark position on tape for HJF. Cut HJF to 2mm min. less than the sheet length. Remove sufficient tape in location of HJF and
position level on the face of the tape. The remainder will help with dry fitting of sheets.
Cut & dry fit the fibre cement sheet before applying adhesive system. Remember to account for the 3mm adhesive thickness where needed, e.g. at corners.
Remove burred edges and remove dust or foreign particles from sheet surface.

Apply SikaTack Panel‐50 adhesive with nozzle supplied, refer details PX40.40.1.21. Ensure a 5mm gap between the adhesive bead and the fixing tape.

Support the sheer weight of the sheet with shim or block.
Place panel in required position without contacting SikaTack Panel Fixing Tape. Once aligned correctly, press panel firmly into position before the adhesive forms a skin.
Brace if necessary to achieve a flat and uniform surface until the SikaTack Panel‐50 adhesive has cured.
Use PVC 8‐10mm spacers to achieve a consistent negative detail.

Finish Pacbld Refined with selected acrylic paint system.
Swisspearl and Parklex do not require any finishing.
Sign off XpressClad PX40 Q A sheet completed during construction to confirm compliance.
Sign off SikaTack Panel‐50 System QA.
Return to Pacific Build Supply Ltd for issue of completion documents.
