The “court docket” is a document prepared by the Ministry of the Attorney General. It is a public document which is available from the criminal court office of your local court house. It contains information relating to a charge or charges laid against particular accused and the status and disposition of those charges. The court docket does not, of course, contain all the information relating to a charge. For more information about any charge listed in a court docket, you may attend at the courthouse to request access to the court file. To obtain such access, you will need the information from the court docket. It goes without saying that all accused are presumed innocent in law and in fact until proven guilty in a court of law. Simply because a charge has been laid does not mean that the accused is guilty of the offence for which he or she has been charged. Each accused listed in the court docket is presumed innocent. To assist you in understanding the court docket, we have included the following “Legend of Select Terms” below. You may also contact your local court office for clarification of any other terms that you may not understand.
