Welcome Back! We would like to say a warm welcome to all our SAS staff, students, families and friends. A

new school year is unfolding before us, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to begin again. This

year marks our 90th year educating students at St. Anthony School. Our history is rich and

rooted in the better part of a century of faith-based, or rather, faith-led educational

guidance for students, which has influenced thousands of lives. We are blessed to have had

the opportunity to provide Catholic education to our Casper community. It is our fervent

prayer that we are continued the opportunity to do so for thousands more students. Thank

you for your part in our success. Each person, however connected to our school, provides in

some way an essential part of the intricate lattice of our roots...the system which delivers

the life-blood of Christ to our school family, greater Catholic community and to our world as

a whole. May God bless you all and keep you close.

SAS Street Fair For the second year, our SAS community

From Our Principal

Angels of Education 2017 Annual Campaign

Greetings! With just under three weeks into the

new year we have welcomed 245 new and

returning students and are already into the

rhythm of our routine. With 90 years behind us,

we embrace the opportunity to add the 2017-18

school year to the auspicious line of faith-filled

education. St. Anthony School life is rich in

learning, serving others, and involvement

in many activities.

In late August teachers were engaged in a

professional workshop led by Dr.

Cathy Votterott, leading expert in standards

based grading and homework. It was a great day

of learning for us. We are committed to applying

proven best practices and enriching the

academic opportunities for our students.

Almost from the minute our students walked in

the door on September 5th, they wanted to

initiate a service project that would aid the

victims of Hurricane Harvey and shortly after,

Hurricane Irma. Since then, they have set up

collection stations for school uniforms, supplies,

and initiated fundraising to collect money to

help the students in Catholic schools

whose schools have

been affected.

Please keep our school in

your prayers and we will be

keeping you in ours as well.

Blessings,

Cyndy Novotny

Grateful Hearts

We are incredibly thankful to

Wyoming Catholic Ministries

Foundation for awarding a

competitive grant of $15,861

which provides bus

transportation for this school

year’s out of county field trips:

Ft. Laramie, South Pass City,

Denver, Teton Science School,

Cody, and Mt. Rushmore.

Thank you WYCMF!

From Our School Board President

The year 1927 was quite a year. It was the last year

that Henry Ford made the Model T. It was the year

that Charles Lindbergh flew nonstop across the

Atlantic from New York to Paris. It was also the year

they commenced work on Mount Rushmore which

eventually would be completed in 1941.

However, it was a significant year for the Catholic

community here in Casper Wyoming. On September

11, 1927 Saint Anthony School was dedicated and

opened its doors for the first time. It was an

important moment because for the first time in the

Casper community there would be a parochial

school. According to news articles of the day, Saint

Anthony's School was a state of the art school for

1927. Additionally, it was so well built that it was

considered fireproof which was an important

consideration at the time. The original school

continued to serve the Casper Catholic community

until 2010 when the new Saint Anthony School was

dedicated. It was made possible through the

generosity and sacrifices of many people. Like the

former building, it was a state of the art school. As

you can see, Catholic education has been a part of

the Casper community for the last 90 years.

Innumerable young people have been educated by

both the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

as well as a dedicated lay staff over those years. I like

to think of the thousands of young people that have

been educated at Saint Anthony's over the past 90

years and the impact their lives and education have

made in our Casper community.

As I reflect upon Catholic schools, there are two main

reasons why I continue to support Catholic

education. I am proud to say that I am a product of

Catholic education as well. I was fortunate enough to

attend Holy Name School in Sheridan, Wyoming as

well as eight years at Saint Thomas seminary in

Denver, Colorado.

Catholic schools continue to make an impact in the

lives of our young people in two essential areas.

The first is that our Catholic Schools teach our young

people not only how to study but how to think

critically. Critical thinking is important because it

enables a person to evaluate data and opinions. So

often nowadays people are bombarded with

information. Some is true while some is not. Actually

in the past year we have come to experience a new

concept called "fake news." Critical thinking enables

a person to analyze, evaluate, and make a judgment

about data. It enables a person to determine

whether a statement is true all the time, sometime,

or never. As we approach an era of subjectivity, it's

important to be able to discern the truth. Truth

enables a person to have a grasp on reality. So many

times, people believe that what is true for you is true

for you, and what is true for me is true for me.

Critical thinking enables a person to be able to

analyze, evaluate and make judgments concerning

the objectivity of truth.

Secondly, Catholic schools nourish a Catholic identity

and mission. Yes, each Catholic School has its own

mission statement. However, they are all based on

chapter 28 of Saint Matthews gospel where Jesus

proclaims “go forth and make disciples of all

nations.” Here in lies the principal reason for the

existence of Catholic schools. Our Catholic schools

share and nourish our Catholic faith which comes to

us from the apostles. Education in the Western world

evolved from the schools at Catholic cathedrals and

monasteries. It was important for people to be able

to read and write so that they might understand the

scriptures and their faith.

Yes, Catholic schools are noted for their academic

excellence. Although academic excellence is

important for the future of our young people, the

faith and values that come from a relationship with

Jesus will carry them throughout their entire

lifetime. That relationship will form and guide them

as they face the questions and difficulties that life

presents in the future. Catholic schools are the

primary place where our faith is passed on from one

generation to the next The heart of that faith is the

simple understanding that God loves them and

desires to know them in a personal relationship.

There's no other place that I am aware where the

values based in the Gospel can be openly expressed

and lived without hindrance or intimidation.

Saint Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School is really one

of the ministries of our three parishes. You can truly

be proud of our school, its teachers, staff and

principal, as well as our students. Yes, I know that

many parents sacrifice so that their children may

have a Catholic education. It is important to them as

well as to our Catholic Community that their children

receive an excellent education as well as grow in

their Catholic faith. Think of it this way: this is the

place where the Catholic faith is nourished. This is

the place from where the future leaders of our

church and of our parish will come.

Congratulations to Saint Anthony's school as we

celebrate 90 Years. May God who has begun this

work for us bring it to

completion!

Celebrating 90 years of

Catholic education

St. Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School

Foundation will be hosting their annual JOY

Breakfast on October 12, 2017 in the

commons area of St. Anthony Tri-Parish

School at 1145 W. 20th Street at 7 am. We

will be honoring Don and Rita (Murphy)

Galles. Bishop Steven will be here to

celebrate these two long outstanding

members of the Catholic community and

their contribution over the past 90 years to

Catholic education. There is no charge to

attend the breakfast, but you do need a

reservation. Please call the Foundation office

and make a reservation before October 4th.

The SASTPC Foundation has started

a “Cardinal Club” to honor the Galles and the

90th birthday of the school. Anyone who

donates $25,000 or more to the Foundation

will get their name placed on a special 90 year

plaque to hang in the school. Larry and

Margo Bean have been the first to become

members of the “Cardinal Club”. They

challenge others to join them. We are just an

arm’s length away from reaching our

matching dollar amount.

We are so very, very grateful to all of our

donors – small, medium and large. We have

been very blessed. The Foundation Board of

Directors and the Foundation Office would

like to extend our deepest sympathy to the

family of Dr. Martin Ellbogen. The Foundation

honored Dr. Ellbogen last year at our annual

Red Carpet Welcome

Several years ago, our principal, Cyndy Novotny began a tradition of the “Red Carpet

Welcome” to usher our students into our care on the first day of school. Culturally, a red

carpet is symbolic of importance, significance, and focus. Among celebrities, the red carpet is

a place to be noticed, taken note of, and remembered. That is exactly how we wish our

students to feel upon arrival at SAS for a new school year. Our entire staff of teachers and

administrative personnel, custodial care takers, support staff, and clergy clap, cheer, high-five,

and warmly welcome each child from the outside curb through our entry and into the

building, all with heartfelt fanfare. This tradition sets the tone for our students and parents to

understand it is our students who we are here to serve. It is their education and well-being for

which we have been called by God to steward. With His love and guidance, we will keep our

focus on them, their needs, growth, development, and spiritual well-being. Please pray for our

school, that we may continue to have a “red carpet” spirit throughout the school year and

that our children feel our heartfelt fanfare for their success in school and in life.

2018 Partners in Education Event

Please save the date for our 2018 Partners in Education Event on Saturday, March 10th. This year

we celebrate our foundational beginnings and 90 years of rich history. Established in a belief that

faith is the seed from which we have grown, SAS will focus the event on our roots. Drawing on the

scripture, Colossians 2:7 "Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were

taught, abounding in thanks-giving.” we have chosen the theme of “Rooted in Faith” to create our

event. Our evening will be a celebration of history, faith, gratitude, and commitment to the fu-

ture of St. Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School. We hope you will join us!

Many thanks to all who joined us for our 90th anniversary Mass celebration. It was a

beautiful evening of friendship, gratitude, and fellowship. We are blessed to have such a rich

history and so many wonderful people with whom share it. Thank you!
