  • FROM FATHER MICHAEL Christmas 2018

“And she gave birth to her first born, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, be-cause there was no room for them in the inn”. (Luke: 7)

    Christ is Born Glorify Him!!

Beloved in Christ, Today we glorify Christ our Lord on this Holy and joyous Christmas. We thank Him for the Blessings that He has revealed and has given to us out of His love for us. We glorify His Holy Name and give thanksgiving to Him for taking human flesh and entering our lives for the purpose of granting us salvation. We glorify God because our Sav-ior has delivered us from the darkness and we now live in His Light; we now negotiate all the days our lives in the brilliance of the Nativity Star. It is in this Holy and Spiritual setting we worship the Birth of Christ in our Churches and in our homes. We will once again find the warmth of Christ, which calms our souls and takes away the fears of the secular and pluralistic society that we live in. Today, the Son of God has come and illuminates all of His Creation. All things are transformed my, Spiritual Children, during the Christmas Season, we witness the grand transformation into the Feast of the Nativity. Observe all things around you, all of our senses are transformed. We see this transfor-mation on our television sets, we observe it on social media, we hear the sounds of the Season on our radios, we see the transformation to the Season of joy in printed media. We are immersed in the simple hustle and bustle of this Season of our Savior. The singing and laughter that we experience reflects that one Holy Star which opens a new road, a road that cuts across the heavens and leads us to the Holy City of Bethlehem. Let us become a participant of a world where night turns into day, a world in which homes become brighter by the virtue of the Christmas joy, a world where hands are filled with presents and hearts are filled with love. A world where Christmas trees that are chilled by winter’s cold await to enter our homes and that joins us as we bow before the Christ Child to receive His Blessed smile. Allow the Christ Child, this Holy and Blessed Nativity Season to transforms us all. Welcome the Grace of God as He enters your life and be transformed joyfully. Gather around the Christmas tree, open your gifts as an Orthodox Christian Family and embrace this Holy Season. Sit at the Christmas table and partake with love and thanksgiving the glorious bounty which comes from above. My Beloved, Presvytera Cyndy and I extend our love to you and yours and wish you a Blessed Christmas and a Fruitful and Healthy New Year. In His Love, +Father Michael

  • PRESIDENT’S CORNER Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Father Michael and the Parish Council, I would like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year filled with health, happiness and every good thing. During these most blessed periods of the Nativity and the Theophany, let us remember as Orthodox Christians, the gift of salvation which our Heavenly Father has bestowed upon us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us be grateful for all our blessings and be thoughtful and generous towards those not so fortunate. Over this past year together we accomplished many wonderful projects enabling us to continue to preserve and cultivate a vibrant and passionate Parish. As we go forth, let our focus be on the youth of our parish. May I suggest, it is our obligation and responsibility as parishioners, parents and grandparents to keep the teachings of our church front and center in our household lives. The church provides structure from which we can draw strength especially in these turbulent and uncertain times that we live in. So let us motivate our youth by teaching them to preserve and perpetuate our glorious Orthodox faith. This in turn will strengthen the bond between all of us and God for generations to come. I'd like to express a special and heartfelt THANK YOU to the following outgoing Parish Council members not seeking re-election, Tina Boutas, Steve Passias, Themi Stamboulidis and Gianna Tiliakos, for their hard work, dedicated years of service and commitment to our church. Because of the collective and tireless efforts that each of you exhibited during your term on the Parish Council, a number of projects were completed thanks to your involvement. Each of you will be truly missed. We however, are encouraged and take comfort in knowing that you will be close by so that we can call upon you individually and collectively from time to time for your help and guidance. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome and congratulate the newly elected Parish Council members. We are fortunate to have new and talented individuals such as yourselves, who are willing to answer the call committing your time and talents for the good of the church. The returning board members look forward to a fruitful and productive 2019 year working side by side with you.

Important upcoming date that we look forward to seeing everyone attend.

    +++++++

    SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications for the Scholarships are now available in

the church office. Eligible candidates are those who

graduated in 2018 and whose parents are paid members

of the church and mothers are members of Philoptochos.

    Dear Sisters,

On behalf of the Philoptochos Board, I would like to wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year!

Last month on Veteran’s Day we honored parishioners who have served or continue to serve in the United State Military. We also held a memorial service for those who made the ultimate sacrifice and did not return home. It was a beautiful and touching ceremony (see back of bulletin)

The Operation Housewarming Project kicked off last month. This ministry was established to assist homeless veterans in their transition to independent living. You will find a list of items needed along with a box at the entrance of the church where you can place your items. Because needs are continuous, this is an on-going ministry. Another ongoing project we kicked off was the Help the Homeless by donating warm jackets/coats. (see flyer in bulletin)

Upcoming in December we have a lot happening. We are sponsoring Adopt-A-Family through My Brother’s Keeper (see the flyer at the end of the bulletin). On December 6th our annual Christmas Party will be held at Thorny Lea Country Club (see flyer). Join us for a fun night of dinner and dancing. Baking will also take place this month for the Shut-Ins along with the decorating of the church for the holiday season. If anyone is interested in helping please contact the office.

Our biggest event this month is the New Year’s Eve dance. Join us with your families as we bring in the new year with the band from the festival.

Finally, in January we have our Annual Vasilopita Cutting. This event will take place on Sunday, January 6th, 2019. We will also be passing a second tray that Sunday to benefit St. Basil’s Academy.

As you can see we have a lot happening and hope you all will join us in these many projects/events.

    Sincerely,

    Liz Karolemeas

    Philoptochos President

  • YOUTH NEWS

GOYA News Thank you to all the GOYANs and adults who helped make the Halloween party

successful! The haunted house was a big hit, it took time but the GOYANs were able to

transform the basement into a fun haunted house for the youth.

For the month of December GOYA will be doing a Secret Santa. We will be

drawing names out of a hat at our next meeting. The maximum amount for a gift will be

$15. This is going to be a very fun activity that all the GOYANs can join in on. There will

also be Prosphora making sometime in December, more details to come!

For our season community service we will be doing My Brother’s Keeper. My Brother's

Keeper conducts one of the area's most extensive Christmas programs to help parents

who cannot provide gifts for their children. Gifts are delivered directly to homes some-

time between December 1st – 24th. All services are free.

A nice Christmas activity to look forward to is the lighting of the Christmas tree on the

Solea. All are welcomed to come and sing carols as we light the tree. Thank you Father

Michael for doing this and truly being there with everyone to celebrate this amazing time

    of year!

Our Next Meeting is December 2nd

We will be having meetings every second Sunday of the month. Please try your best to

    attend!
