Programs based on “Application of classroom information to real life situations”

Nearly all depts. Conducted some or other activities , to mention a few :

- Visit to Horticultural Exhibition organized by Brihnmumbai Muncipal Corporation

(BMC) , Mumbai(TYBSC Dept. Of Botany)

- Visit to Gilbert Hill- Black basalt rock-formed by hardening of the lava sixty six

millions years old situated at Andheri (TYBA, Dept. of Geography).

- Sand Modelling into various landforms, on Kirti College beach organized by

Geography Dept.

- Excursion to Bhitarkanika wild life sanctuary – Orissa by Dept. Of Zoology

- “Interaction with RBI governor Dr. Raghu Ram Rajan” and Visit to American Centre

(Library) BKC, Mumbai (Dept. Of Political Science).

Self-employment skill –Earn while learn

- WDC in collaboration with Botany Dept. conducted workshop on preservation

techniques of fruits and vegetables.

- Botany Dept. conducted a workshop on “Mushroom Cultivation”

- Economics Department organised a Fun Fair where our young women entrepreneurs

displayed and sold various hand- made products like jewellery, decorative items,

yummy recipes etc.

A step towards inculcation of research aptitude in the students.

- Under the program “Know Thy Science and Scientist”, Chemistry Dept. in

collaboration with Physics conducted a program wherein three Japanese scientists

were invited for sharing their research experiences.

- FYBSc students were motivated to attend a conference hosted at Jai hind college,

specially designed for students by Science Academies-Government of Maharashtra.

Students introduced to the prospective world of employment

- Dept. of Accountancy organized talks by professional’s w.r.t. job opportunities in

travel and tourism sector, in the field of IT and Commerce, Finance, taxation and

banking.

- “Training in Aquarium maintenance” conducted by Dept. Of Zoology

- "Career after Graduation in the field of commerce" organized in collaboration with

Fazlani Altius Business School, Bandra-Mumbai.

- Organizing Industrial visits for students :

Department of Chemistry, Computer Science and IT organized a visit to food industry-

Mapro Garden at Panchgani.

- Invited talk on “Career in Journalism and E-media” by Ms. Mayuri Gawde.(Dept. of

Political Science)

Soft-skill development program for the students

- Mathematics and Statistics Depts. jointly organized an “Online Soft Skills Foundation

Course” which was conducted by NEOED Knowledge System. Around ten students

participated.

- To strengthen, English communication skills, English Dept conducted a” Basic course

in English” around ten students participated.

- “Grow Your Skills”, a session by Mr. Narayanan Iyer, Founder and CEO of Visara

Tech. Services, Mumbai.

- Seminar on stress management by Mrs. Janhavi , St. Angelos

Successful alumni invited as guest speakers for motivating the students

- Alumnus Mr. Kunjan Kumar Shah MSc, MBA Tech. Service Manager at Wacker

Chemicals , UAE spoke on – “Career in Chemistry”

- Alumnus Ms. Sushanta Poojari, MCA, delivered a lecture on real life applications of

Mathematics.

Programs to empower the girl student

- “Young Women Entrepreneur Talent Hunt” organized by Economics Dept., WDC

and Library. The participant’s set-up stalls for selling, self –made products, ranging

from cooked food to Jewellery, designer envelopes to gift articles, etc.

- Invited talk on “Economic Policies and Women Empowerment’ which dealt with

various financial policies that exist for women empowerment

Intercollegiate festivals

- “Chem-O-Joy” Festival organized by Chemistry Dept. around 100 students from

various colleges like M.D, Ruparel, Acharya Marathe, Sophaiya, etc participated.

- “Horizon” festival organized by CS/IT Dept. It aims at exposing the students to the

challenges in technology.

- “Moksh” festival organized by BMM Dept. It aims at sensitizing students to social

challenges and responsibilities.

- “Eminence 2016” festival organized by Biotechnology Dept., around 83 students

participated from colleges like Swami Vivekanand, M.D, R. D. National,

Jhunjhunwala, D.A.V. at Bhandup, etc.

Hosting University programs

- Hosted pre-publication book review of FYBSC - Textbook of Zoology.

- “Book Release Function of FYBSC - Textbook of Zoology”, published by Mumbai

University was hosted at Kirti college.

- Organized workshop on Revised Syllabus of MSc Computer Science (Semester-I) in

collaboration with, Ad-hoc Board of Studies of Computer Science, University of

Mumbai.

Social responsibilities

Several programs highlighting social issues were organised. To mention a few conducted this

year are:

- Panel discussion on Water Conservation was organized by Magazine Committee on

the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

- In sync with the National program “Swacchata Abhiyaan”- a cleanliness drive, at

Dadar, N. C. Kelkar Marg and Kirti College beach respectively.

- Conduction of “AIDS Awareness Rally” on 1st December 2015.

- Extension Activities :

- A visit to Adivasi padas at Kosbad, a tribal village in Dahanu District. Here the

students meet the adivasis and advocated the importance of sending their children to

school.

- Blood Donation Drive in association with Hinduja Hospital and HDFC bank. Around

73 bottles of blood collected.

- Visit to NGO “Astitva” National Institute for Open School for street children.

“Know Thy Science and Scientist” programme being conducted with the

view of exposing faculty and students to the new vista’s of research

Chemistry Dept. in collaboration with Physics conducted a program

wherein three Japanese scientists delivered lectures on their research

areas viz. White LED’s, Biosensors and Recent technologies for paper

making.
