** Regulation 2018 Curriculum and syllabi was introduced with CBCS. Salient features of CBCS:
Categorization of Courses Every B.E. / B. Tech. Programme will have a curriculum with syllabi consisting of theory and practical courses
that shall be categorized as follows:
i. Humanities and Social Sciences (HS) courses include Technical English, Engineering Ethics and Human Values, Communication skills, Environmental Science and Engineering.
ii. Basic Sciences (BS) courses include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. iii. Engineering Sciences (ES) courses include Engineering practices, Engineering Graphics, Basics of
Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Computer Engineering, Instrumentation etc. iv. Professional Core (PC) courses include the core courses relevant to the chosen specialization/branch. v. Professional Elective (PE) courses include the elective courses relevant to the chosen specialization/ branch. vi. Open Elective (OE) courses include the courses from other branches which a student can choose from. The
number of such courses is specified in the curriculum of the students B.E. / B. Tech. Programmes. vii. Employability Enhancement Courses (EEC) include Project Work and/or Internship, Seminar, Professional
Practices, Case Study and Industrial/Practical Training. All students shall enroll, on admission, in any one of the personality and character development programmes
(NCC/NSS/NSO/YRC) and undergo training for about 80 hours and attend a camp of about seven days if applicable.
Each semester curriculum shall normally have a blend of lecture courses not exceeding 7 and Laboratory courses and Employability Enhancement Course(s) not exceeding 4.
The students should undergo Industrial training for a period as specified in the Curriculum during summer / winter vacation.
Every student is required to go for at least one Industrial Visit every year starting from the second year of the Programme.
The Students should undergo Value Added Courses and Students can take a maximum of two one credit courses / one two credit course during the entire duration of the Programme.
Students may be permitted to credit only one online course of 3 credits with the approval of Department Consultative Committee.
The students satisfying the following conditions shall be permitted to carry out their final semester Project work for six months in industry/research organizations. The student should not have current arrears. The student shall undergo the eighth semester courses in the sixth and seventh semesters.
A student has to earn the total number of credits specified in the curriculum of the respective Programme of study in order to be eligible to obtain the degree. However, if the student wishes, then the student is permitted to earn more than the total number of credits prescribed in the curriculum of the student’s programme.
The prescribed range of total credits for each degree programme is around 160 -175. (For Marine Engineering, it is around 190).

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes :
Academic Monitoring Committee (AMC), wherein senior professors are directed to monitor other faculty members to enable peer mentoring. Each member has been associated with a department and the member monitor teachers regularly. They visit them during regular class without prior intimation and assess the teaching learning process. Improvements required, if any, are advised to corresponding faculty member based on the report received from the committee. All the faculty members are monitored throughout the semester. IQAC coordinates with the institute on these activities and evaluates the teaching-learning process. IQAC members are also members of AMC.

The College is encouraging research activities of the students and faculty in all aspects. Full financial support to present papers in abroad as well aswe67 in India. Management fully funded to create centre for Nanotechnology to promote interdisciplinary research. The best projects of final year UG/PG will be supported by College (Rs.10, 000 for each branch). Students’ Research day were organized every year in the month of March to motivate and promote research activities in the College. Faculty Research day were organized every year in the month of April to motivate and promote research activities (Research scholars and faculty) in the College. Facilities are provided like separate room for faculty, internet access, wi-fi connectivity, Library equip with journals and back volumes, Internet access to reputed publishers – Elsevier, IEEE, ASME and Springer journals. Faculty members are encouraged in all aspects like incentive for PhD qualification, paper publication, receiving funded projects, proposal submission for grants, filing Patents and conducting conferences. Faculty can avail on duty permissions to attend seminar or to present research paper outside the campus.

5.8 Details of gender sensitization programmes
A batch of 25 students is attached to a faculty advisor, who takes them through the course from the first year. The person maintains close contact with the respective batch and monitors the progress of each student. In addition to the academic performance, the faculty advisor gives guidance and counseling as needed by the students. Once in a month the faculty advisor compulsorily meets the students and updates the students on recent academic details as well as seeks feedback from them regarding academic and other activities. The faculty advisor discusses these points with the authorities concerned and communicates back the remedial action taken.Class committee meetings (comprising of all the faculty members handling class, class representatives and a chairman)are conducted, thrice in a semester, to assess the academic performance of every class. All academic related issues are discussed, both from faculty and student end, and suitable corrective action taken.
1. International Women’s Day 2018 was celebrated on 08.03.2018. Several events and competitions were held and prizes were given to the girl students who exhibited their skills. The Chief guest was Ms.Divya Biyani, Chief Operating Officer, Karmen International Pvt. Ltd.
2. National commission for women advised to conduct nationwide competition to create awareness
about the legal rights of women. In this regard, on MCQ Test & Quiz was conducted in college premises on 17.11.2017. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Ms.Tamil Selvi Jayachandran, Advocate-High Court Madras, who briefed the girl students on how to empower themselves in the society.
3. A One day workshop was conducted on 12.10.2017 for the young girls, ‘To make them ready to
crack their Interview and face the challenges of the corporate world’. The programe was supported by `Rexona Confidence Academy’ from Hindustan Unilever Limited. The Chief Guest of the programe was Arslie, Hindustan Unilever Limited.
4. A Motivational lecture for the girls students of all years was conducted on
29.08.2017.Dr.SavithriSivakumar, Director, Aaranya Bioscience Private Limited delivered the lecture on “Entrepreneurship-Force and Friction”.

An Autonomous curriculum and syllabus were framed and implemented for second year and Third year students referring the affiliated University curriculum. The CBCS was introduced for the first year in the academic year 2018-2019.
Innovative Examination Teaching and Evaluation Methodology and Academic Monitoring Committee together ensure better teaching and learning avenue in the classroom. Multimedia aid like smart board, LCD projector and over-head projector are available in every department to facilitate effective teaching of theoretical and numerical problem oriented subjects. All classrooms have been provided with dedicated LCD projectors. In laboratories where centralised demo Research is required and Development to be given to students, especially in computation labs, dedicated LCD projectors are available. All these are monitored continuously for development in teaching and learning process. College follows the rules and regulations of Anna University, Chennai. Students are evaluated by end semester examination, which is converted to 80 marks. The remaining 20 marks are calculated from the three Continuous Assessment Tests conducted during a semester.

The performance in each course of study shall be evaluated based on (i) Continuous Assessment Test (CAT) throughout the semester and (ii) End Semester Examination (ESE) at the end of the semester. Each course, both theory, practical and project work shall be evaluated for a maximum of 100 marks. The internal assessment will carry 50% weightage and the End Semester Examination will carry 50% weightage for all theory courses and project work. The internal assessment will carry 75% weightage and End Semester Examination will carry 25% weightage for all laboratory courses. The evaluation of answer sheets had been carried out jointly by appointing examiners from our college and other colleges.
Faculty Research day were organized every year in the month of April to motivate and promote research activities (Research scholars and faculty) in the College. Facilities are provided like separate room for faculty, internet access, wi-fi connectivity, Library equip with journals and back volumes, Internet access to reputed publishers – Elsevier, IEEE, ASME and Springer journals. Faculty members are encouraged in all aspects like incentive for PhD qualification, paper publication, receiving funded projects, proposal submission for grants, filing Patents and conducting conferences. Faculty can avail on duty permissions to attend seminar or to present research paper outside the campus.
Library is fully computerized in aspect of book issue, renewal and search. In addition to physical copies, college has subscribed to various e-journals in various disciplines of engineering. A dedicated department for information management is running with required personnel. College has a 44 Mbps internet line. All faculty and staff members are given an individual email id in the domain. Apart from the mail space, all faculty members are given space in respective department server for data storage. College management is committed to provide the required physical infrastructure and instruments immediately to fulfil the requirements. Anna University, Chennai adopted new regulations for current academic year. All the required equipments were procured and labs updated to meet the requirement. The college initiated construction of a class room complex, which houses 32 class rooms. This new block will be operational during next academic year. Construction of two new hostel blocks, an open air theatre and an auditorium was completed. Construction of new library block and canteen has also been planned.
All faculty and staff member are encouraged to upgrade their technical qualification. In this regard many faculty members are sponsored to pursue post graduate or research degree. Staff members are encouraged to do certified courses, diploma and under graduate degree. The college proudly can say that many of our staff members, who started their career as lab technician/instructor with diploma qualification, are now pursuing B.E / M.E / Ph.D. They have also been promoted to appropriate positions in respective departments.

The students that get admitted to the institute mostly possess top cut-off marks.

1. Alumni Association has conducted Budding Bright Engineering Award Function on 15-08-2018. The 20 second year students various departments received BBEA. The award comprised of certificate and cash prize of Rs 2500.
2. 1988 – 1992 Batch students celebrated their Reunion function during July 2017 and donated Rs. 2, 68,000 to college digital library.
3. Alumni Association conducted Career Awareness Program for students of all departments on 23-01-2018.
4. The SVCE ALUMNI PROCONNECT Network was formed to enable our alumni entrepreneurs and professionals to connect with each other, share knowledge and networks. It is also a good opportunity to interact with student entrepreneurs of SVCE on 28-04-2018.
The management arranges for a parent – teachers meet once in a semester during a weekend. The parents are identified and invited by faculty advisors of all the departments. Student’s academic performance, university results, attendance and other related issues are discussed. This would be followed by meeting of parents with Principal of the college.
Various technical specific programmes are arranged for supporting staff every year. Apart from this general training is given on handling fire fighting equipments, computer tools like MS-Office, email etc.
CARE - the Eco-Club of SVCE has been involved in creating awareness among staff and students on the importance of maintaining a clean and green Campus.
NSS, along with other clubs, organizes Campus Clean-ups every week under Swachh Bharat Initiative.

Slow learners and needy students were identified in each class of every academic department. These students were given special coaching after college hours every day during the semester. At the end of semester classes, a crash course was conducted to these students with emphasize on clearing the final exams. This resulted in increase in overall pass percentage.
The faculty and students have been instructed to concentrate more on research and also encouraged them to convert innovative project into a patent by sponsoring fund for IPR registration. The students and faculty members have been instructed to do inter-disciplinary projects involving different department students to improve their employability skills.

Annexure – II TWO BEST PRACTICES
(i) Enhancing research potential of faculty members The Management encourages the faculty members to publish the research papers, attending National / International conferences and to carry out consultancy work. The faculty members are encouraged by providing cash incentives to those who publish research articles in National / International journals. Faculty members and students are sponsored to attend the National / International conferences in India / Abroad. The cash incentives are provided to those. Many MOUs are signed with industries to carry our consultancy and research activities. MOUs are also signed between foreign universities also to expose the faculty members to the current research areas. (ii) Motivating the students through Scholarships The aim of this practice is to provide the financial support to those who have problem in paying the tuition and other fees. This will help the deserving students to continue their studies without any financial burden. The institution also offers full semester tuition fees scholarship based on merit cum means, economic means, excellence in sports and NCC activities and also subsidized laptop scheme for the amount of Rs.34.3 lakhs.
