The Annual ISCA Report. Russian Federation is represented in ISCA by National Institution of Additional Education “Captain Varukhin’s Marine Center”, which is situated in the ancient city Velikiy Novgorod. 2017 is the anniversary year for young sailors - it’s 50 years since the foundation of The Young Sailors’ Club. The institution has the name of its creator and the only director Varukhin Nkolay Gennadievich for 2 years. He was chosen as the ISCA chairman for 2006 and led the international conference and later - 8 international meetings on the training ships. We haven’t led any meetings since 2013, but our young sailors hope, that they will proceed and if there is at least one country, that is ready to visit Russia, they’re ready to happily meet their friends. A new academic year begins on the 15 th of October.650 young sailors will be studying ship navigation, ship engineering, electrical engineering, shipboy classes, sailing classes, the English language and many other subjects. There were different events in our center besides the main educational program. In September we had unveiling of the Put’yatin E.V. monument on the territory of our institution near the mooring. He was a Minister of Education and a statesman in Russia in the 19 th century. Putyatin greatly contributed to the development of cultural and trading business between Russia, China and Japan. The Marine Center participated in the city holiday, which was dedicated to Hansa this spring. Hansa is the middle age marine union, which consisted of almost 300 trading towns, including Velikiy Novgorod. City folks and the guests had a chance to learn maritime affairs during the holiday. Young sailors taught those who wish to tie sailor’s knots, to throw a throwing line, to wear lifejackets, to use lifeboats; they also competed in tug of war. The art contest “The wreath of fame” was held for those who study in Novgorod region. About 300 pupils sent their paintings, presentations, crafts, and reports dedicated to Alexander Nevskiy, the grand Russian prince and commander in the 13 th century. The meeting with members of the “Velikiy Novgorod” submarine crew, who were visiting our city and marine center, was a very bright event for young sailors. Delegations of young sailors were taking part in laying the keel and immersion of the submarine in Saint Petersburg in 2017. The most interesting and productive stage of educational process of courseis the summer period, when kids can practice. Participation of young sailors in campaigns on training ships gives the chance to apply the knowledge and abilities, received during the academic year. Elements of knowledge, active recreation and physical training are perfectly combined in the specialized camp on the ship. The camp life and overcoming natural obstacles promote education of collectivism, discipline and mutual revenue, development of courage, endurance, resourcefulness, develop an initiative. Summer practice in 2017 was passed by 442 young sailors on three training ships "Gospodin Veliky Novgorod", "Mikhail Balaban", "Ilmera". Routes of the voyages weree interesting and various. Young sailors from Veliky Novgorod went on vessels to the White Sea, on the Volga, Svir, Neva rivers, on the Ladoga and Onega lakes and Volkhov-Ilmen basin. Young sailors have visited the cities of Nizhny Novgorod, Belomorsk, Petrozavodsk, St. Petersburg, the islands of Kizhi, Valaam and many others. In total young sailors for this summer have passed more than 6,5 thousand miles. They had watches on the bridge, were steering the vessels, had some tasks in the engine room, worked at a galley, took part in ship alarms, works, boat and sailing races, coastal and ship summer competitions and in many various sporting events. Out of our three training ships on two captains are graduates of the captain Varukhin N.G. Many graduates also work on training ships as navigators and mechanics. In 50 years the Institution of Additional Education “Captain Varukhin’s Marine Center” has trained thousands of experts, graduates in shipping companies work worldwide, many of them finished the highest sea educational institutions, and military among others.
