We invoke your blessing on this meeting and upon our being together. The joy of the Lord is our strength. We enjoy the fellowship we find here, as it makes us feel more regal than feeble. Help us to enjoy doing good, supporting and encouraging one another. Thank you Lord, for this good group and for letting us know that those great among us must first become great in serving others. OUR VISION

INNOVATOR FOR A HAPPIER AND MORE ACTIVE CLUB

- 4 -

Good day and welcome to our 4th regular meeting. As the end of my first fulfilling month of presidency beckons, I am very thankful for all your support, and I know that this will continue, thereby helping us to attain our goals and put our club in the limelight once again.

In community service for July we had our Brigada Eskwela school supplies distribution and the medical and dental mission held in Legaspi, Albay. We also finished our Tree Planting project at the Subic Watershed, Subic, Zambales. To all who spent their time and means in support of these projects maraming salamat po!

The Membership Development Seminar (MDS) will be on July 28 at Loui's Hotel in Balanga, Bataan. To all who pledged to attend and will attend this seminar thank you sa suporta nyo sa pagyayabang ko sa district!

To all our members, specially to our newly inducted members, I encourage all of you to attend the MDS because this seminar will help you to understand and know that Rotary makes a difference in our life and know the impact on how Rotary changes the lives of others. This gives you a chance to grow positively as Rotarians, so I ask you to be involved.

To all the donors in the Bikini Open held last July 23, namely PP/Sec Glenn, Dir. Ompong, Dir. Gary, Treas. Gigi and Rtn. Willy salamat po sa inyo!

The municipality of Subic and Subicom extend their gratitude and thanks for supporting this binabagyong event. To Dir. Ompong special thanks for representing our club in the SOMA at Subic Central School.

This coming month let's start again. Let us use the strength of our club to serve. Let's face it... I know that our club is hampered by lack of funds but, sa dami natin, I know that each & everyone of us has so much potential para itawid natin ito. Basta tulong- tulong lang tayo.

GOD BLESS US ALL...

ROTARY INFORMATION

Ten lessons learned from the Future Vision pilot As The Rotary Foundation prepares for the global launch of its new grant model next July, a number of changes are being made based on feedback from Future Vision pilot districts. Rotarians can expect to see these improvements in coming months: 1. A user-friendly online system for

district qualification and grant application

2. A streamlined global grant application process with clearly defined expectations and a list of resources to help applicants get started

3. Clear guidelines on how to meet global grant requirements for area of focus and sustainability

4. Expanded criteria in two areas of focus: basic education and literacy now includes secondary education, and disease prevention and treatment covers prevention of noncommunicable diseases and health promotion; in addition, all areas of focus allow certain types of infrastructure projects

5. The elimination of a requirement that applicants for global grant scholarships provide proof of language testing

6. Adjustments to the composition of vocational training teams, reducing the minimum number of travelers to three and allowing, with Foundation approval, the team leader to be a non-Rotarian

7. Funding for international travel to implement global grant projects 8. An option for a contingency fund of up to 20 percent of the total

district grant spending plan 9. A reduction in the minimum budget for a packaged grant from

US$50,000 to $20,000 10. The addition of a district stewardship subcommittee to ensure

careful management of grant funds The Foundation expects these improvements to help Rotarians develop projects that meet the eligibility requirements for global grants, thus reducing the time from application through payment. Rotary News—20 July 2012

Expanded criteria for the basic

education and literacy area of focus

will include secondary education.

Dear Pres Abot & PP Glenn, I attended RCLMS meeting this morning, where I was given the opportunity to deliver a brief speech

regarding the status of our Sisterhood Agreement. I sent u a text message about it at around 10:30pm Manila time (maybe u were still at the meeting). Did you receive it? Here's the text of my speech: "Good morning, and thank you for this opportunity. Thank you also for the warm welcome you have been according me everytime I attend your meeting or any of your other activities. In my capacity as the official representative of the Rotary Club of Subic, allow me to make a few statements regarding the status of our Sisterhood Agreement. It's been almost two years now since the forging of our special relationship, as the agreement was signed by then Pres. Vic Fernitz, and myself. Our performance in terms of attaining our goals may not be considered outstanding, but we believed we have done well in general. Specifically, the Rotary Club of Lincolnshire Morning Star has been consistent in sending us a copy of your weekly bulletin, posting in your website the pictures that we have been sending you, and, at one time, giving monetary contribution in support of one of our high-impact service projects. Ironically, I may not be able to say as much for our own Subic club, except that everytime we implement a service project, we always make it a point to announce to everyone, prominently printed in streamers, that such a particular project is being done in partnership with our sister club in the US, the RCLMS. We believed it is one good way of emphasizing the internationality of our great organization, and, truly, it is a source of much pride and inspiration for us members of RCS. We just hope, though, that you don't see anything wrong with what we have been doing, because, with your permission, we intend to continue doing similarly, for this year and, hopefully, for the years to come. Going back to monetary contributions, well, you have already started doing it, and we are truly grateful for the favor. I regret to say that we still have to send our first contribution. Hopefully, in the near future, we will also be able to send something to reciprocate your generosity. Thank you so much, anyway, for your patience and understanding.

At the onset of the last RY, our club unanimously approved the renewal of our Sisterhood Agreement. We then asked if you could do the same. You did a lot better, however, because under the leadership of IPP Neil Pearlman, you approved not only for one year but for two years, including this RY. We thank you for that, because it is a manifestation of your trust and confidence in us as one of your close partners in service. RCS must, therefore, endeavor to do much more to be worthy of such trust. Before ending my speech, let me extend the greeting of our new club President Herbert Doles and the rest of our membership: To Pres. Valerie and all RCLMS members, we wish you all good health, good luck, and a happy, productive RY. We invite you to come visit us in Subic. As our Phil Tourism slogan says "It's more fun in the Philippines." I would dare to add " But it's much more fun in Subic." Thank you, and good day."

Rotary clubs serve communities around the world, each with unique concerns and needs. Rotarians have continually adapted and improved the way they respond to those needs, taking on a broad range of service projects. The most successful and sustainable Rotary service tends to fall within one of the following six areas:

Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

Disease prevention and treatment

Water and sanitation

Maternal and child health

Basic education and literacy

Economic and community development Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation recognize these six areas of focus as organizational priorities, and there are countless ways that Rotarians can address these needs locally and internationally.

OPINION

What is Rotary? Reduced to a single word, Rotary is Opportunity. RI Past President Clem Renouf said, "Rotary takes ordinary men [and women], and gives them extra-ordinary opportunities."

Of course, Rotary is many other things. The words "service" and "fellowship" are often employed to describe the international organization. Other descriptions are valid, of course, but perhaps there is no better single word to encompass all that Rotary stands for. Rotary is opportunity, including – perhaps starting with – service and fellowship, but extending far beyond those two basics.

Rotary is opportunity for acquaintance. Without Rotary, members would have much more limited local acquaintance, limited perhaps to workplace and residential neighborhood. Through Rotary, acquaintance is spread across the community, and with the benefit of the classification system, it includes representatives of most of the local businesses and professions.

Rotary is opportunity for networking. Paul Harris initiated that first gathering of friends because of a desire for friendly social contacts. But one of their first decisions was to limit new members to one representative from each business and profession, and emphasis was given to targeting their business relations primarily to one another. Rotarians have confidence they can turn to each other for professional or business needs.

Rotary is opportunity for personal growth. A member becomes a committee chairman, a club secretary, or president, and rising to expectations of the job, gains self-confidence, poise, and increased leadership ability.

Rotary is opportunity for better citizenship. Through weekly programs, Rotarians enlarge their understanding of government, business, and society. Through participation in community projects, they gain appreciation for local needs, and their ability to meet some of those needs.

Rotary is opportunity for mentoring. Through club sponsorship of Interact and Rotaract clubs, through school projects or literacy programs, members are challenged to share their expertise in situations that would not be available to them other than through Rotary.

- 17 -

Rotary is opportunity for ethical awareness. Emphasis is placed on high standards of personal integrity, for example those spelled out in the Four-Way Test. These expectations call on Rotarians to practice and encourage ethical behavior in the workplace and the community.

Rotary is opportunity for world understanding. Through exposure to Group Study Exchange teams, to departing and returning Ambassadorial Scholars, and to Youth Exchange, Rotarians gain a multi-cultural awareness, and insight into the world society.

Rotary is opportunity – let us not overlook this – for fellowship and service. But isn’t that included in and enlarged upon in all of the other opportunities mentioned? The word "opportunity" obviously leads us to ask, and answer, "Opportunity for what?" The opportunities mentioned here are only a beginning; many more could be added.

But the central fact remains: Rotary is Opportunity.

Top 5 excuses for not having sex

Sex excuse 1: "I'm too tired." “Please babe, I’ve been at work all day and I’m tired”. A recent study has revealed that the “I’m too tired” scenario has become the top excuse to avoid having sex.

Sex excuse 2: "I'm on my period." This is obviously an excuse that the gentleman among us can’t pull out of the bag when they’re just not feel-ing up to it. For the ladies, it’s a favourite excuse that works every time.

Sex excuse 3: "I'm angry with you." Some try and avoid sex by dragging out an argument for longer than it needed to last or purposely causing one. You’re having a fantastic evening watching films, gorging on a candle-lit romantic meal, and laughing at each other’s jokes when suddenly the bedroom part comes and boom – you just remembered your argument from the other night.

Sex excuse 4: "I've got a headache."People all over the world seem to get a headache when it’s leading up to the big moment. We can’t think why. In fact, the fake headache excuse has been put to use so much that it made it to third place in a recent survey of top excuses for not having sex.

Sex excuse 5: "I don't have time." We can feel your pain with this one. As we’re working longer hours, there seems to be less time for sex and more time for hard work. If you’re genuinely struggling for time, throw sponta-neity out of the window and schedule sex in. It sounds unsexy, but there’s nothing wrong with planning a session of romance if it’s completely stopped happening on its own.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

SECOND High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

THIRD The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

FOURTH The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

AVENUES OF SERVICE

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.

Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
