ELEVENTH- GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA/MA/SMK/MAK PUBLISHED

BY THE INDONESIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE

ABSTRACT

In formal language learning, students will have several writing projects at

various levels in each chapter of the book, such as essays, letters, poetry, and

opinions, therefore they will need to study several parts of writing abilities in class.

A textbook is a piece of equipment that can help both the teacher and the students

in the teaching and learning process. Textbooks play a significant part in the

teaching and learning process.

By employing documentation study, this study focuses on the analysis of

writing tasks in the English textbook for eleventh-grade students with two

objectives: (1) How are the writing tasks in this English textbook developed? (2)

Do the writing tasks in this English textbook meet the writing tasks as suggested by

Paul Nation?.

The findings of this study revealed that writing task from English textbook

published by Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture for eleventh graders are

mostly develop into language and cultural awareness, because 15 of the 22 writing

tasks in this English textbook developed into language and cultural awareness.

Additionally, 22 writing tasks have found match to the Nation's Theory's criterion

for writing task. 15 tasks are included in the guided task type. Lastly, the most

dominant writing task in this textbook is a guided task.
