a local favourite is called “mauby” and made from the bark of a local tree then sweetened, boiled and strained
made from buckthorn bark from the colubrina elliptica and said to resemble the taste of rootbeer
Fun facts:
- the official language of Suriname is Dutch and they use the Suriname Dollar. One Surinamese Dollar is about the equivalent of 33 cents in Canadian Dollars
- Tropical rainforests make up 80% of their landscape
- Their main export is bauxite which is an aluminum ore
