• We will be delaying the delivery of the reports until late May so we can include the 2020 cohort data

• Many of our exams were cancelled or rearranged due to the pandemic, and we want to make sure you have the full year’s cohort

Page 4: The American Board of Anesthesiology

• Thank you so much to everyone who administered the August and November BASIC Exams at your site

• We know it was a quick shift, but we appreciate you helping us accommodate residents during the pandemic

Page 5: The American Board of Anesthesiology

• We extended this year’s ITE administration window to provide you and your residents more flexibility during these trying times

• We’d like to hear your feedback on the helpfulness of this extension during such an anomalous time

2021 VIRTUAL EXAMSMitigating COVID-19 impact on APPLIED Exams

Page 7: The American Board of Anesthesiology

• We decided to virtually assess all 2021 candidates to ensure candidates whose 2020 exams were cancelled and those who registered for 2021 exams can complete certification without delay

• Candidates who were displaced by the cancellation of last year’s APPLIED Exam will be assessed during the first half of 2021

Page 8: The American Board of Anesthesiology

• If you pass the APPLIED Exam before Dec. 31, 2021, and are certified in anesthesiology, we'll report your subspecialty exam results to you and if you pass you will also become certified in the subspecialty.

• If you do not pass the APPLIED Exam before Dec. 31, 2021, you will have an opportunity to take the APPLIED Exam again in 2022. We’ll report your subspecialty exam results to you when you become certified in anesthesiology.

• If you do not pass the APPLIED Exam before Dec. 31, 2022, your subspecialty exam results will be invalidated. You will then be required to be certified in anesthesiology to be eligible to register to retake the subspecialty exam.
