9. Fridge Freezers on FinanceThe alternative Christmas dinner
A turkey is as festive as Only Fools reruns and the two-week school holiday but it takes a lot more effort than collapsing in front of Del Boy for two hours; after all, the bird can take up to six hours in the oven and that doesn’t leave you a whole lot of time to relax with the family. So what can you make instead that is bound to please fussy kids, anxious in-laws and hungry parents?
FishNigella Lawson recommends a seafood pot, typically eaten across Europe on Christmas Eve. It’s beautifully simple and you won’t be living on its leftovers for a month afterwards. It takes less than an hour from start to finish, giving you time to have a glass of wine or assemble your child’s toy from an instruction manual printed solely in Chinese.
VegetarianAt Christmas time vegetarians can feel a bit left out, with all the emphasis on big, traditional family meaty meals; sometimes it can be nice to make the switch for one day so all the family can eat the same food. The Vegetarian Society has created this Not Just a Nut Roast dish which will be enjoyable for the whole family. As an extra bonus, it can be made 2-3 days before you want to eat it so you have more time to yourself on the day.
DessertChristmas pudding can be stodgy at times but Jamie Oliver has given it a new twist with this Christmas Pud Sundae. With additional fresh fruit and ice cream it is lighter, just what you’d need after a big dinner.
Of course, the only problem with having so much delicious food is finding a place to store it all. If your fridge-freezer’s a bit too small to do the job, why not upgrade? Littlewoods have a great collection of fridge freezers on finance. This means you can buy now and pay later; spreading the cost over up to three years, so there’s no need to cut back on Christmas.ENDSWords: 335
