The investment is involved with the equipment and personnel involved. The rewards are social and environmental. The most cost effective method of removing debris from your streets is with a street sweeper. The best sweeper is one designed for your application and that has the lowest life cycle cost. While there are statistics related to the expense of removing debris from your street versus removing it once it has gotten to your catch basins or into your storm sewer, those calculations are very complicated and somewhat subjective. However, one thing is clear: the least expensive debris removal is when it takes place on the street. The three basic designs for street sweepers are mechanical, regenerative air and pure vacuum. A mechanical sweeper is the best solution if you need to sweep heavy, bulky debris quickly or perform a great deal of milling and have a requirement to dump into trucks for removal of the material. Using gutter brooms to move debris into the path of a large main broom, it in turn moves the material onto an elevator and into the debris hopper. These units are normally the lower end of the initial cost range, but because of the method of conveying debris they are the most expensive to maintain. Our Johnston ES351 is a chassis mounted mechanical sweeper with high side dump and a 4.5 yard capacity stainless steel hopper. Like all Johnston sweepers, the hopper has a Lifetime Warranty to the original owner and the Standard Warranty on the balance of the unit is an industry leading two years. The machine is great at picking up debris from the street, but has no capability to remove materials from catch basins. The single engine design and easily accessed maintenance points provide an efficient package. Continued on page 3 1

Keeping it CleanThere is a cost to keeping your streets clean, as well as a number of rewards. The investment is involved with the equipment and personnel involved. The rewards are

social and environmental. The most cost effective method of removing debris from your streets is with a street sweeper. The best sweeper is one designed for your application and that has the lowest life cycle cost. While there are statistics related to the expense of removing debris from your street versus removing it once it has gotten to your catch basins or into your storm sewer, those

calculations are very complicated and somewhat subjective.

Built Tough for the Toughest JobsDesigned for accuracy and efficiency, the Vac-Con X-Cavator enables powerful yet low-risk excavation for any dig. There is no application too tough for the X-Cavator; easily and safely tackling excavation jobs including:

- Trenching- Potholing- Exposing underground utilities- Water & sewer repairs

Hydro excavation is the ideal method for excavation tasks, accounting for the most accuracy, efficiency, and most importantly, safety. By utilizing pressurized water and an air vacuum, this method is non-destructive to the surrounding area, yet tough and effective on the job itself. The accuracy provided and elimination of consequential disturbance in turn minimizes upkeep costs.

Do you need to transport dirt, sand, gravel, wood chips, or other loose materials? By Pennsylvania state law code 4903.1, transport of loose material by truck must use a tarp, canvas, or other Department of Transportation approved cover. The bed of the vehicle carrying loose material must be fully enclosed on all sides to prevent any part of the load from blowing, falling, or spilling out of the vehicle.

- Highway & street repairs- Propane & gas tank remediation- Long distance & congested area excavation- Oil & gas distribution lines

The Johnston RS655 is an 8.5 yard capacity unit with our same Standard Two Year Warranty and same Lifetime Warranty on the stainless steel debris body. Like all regenerative air sweepers, the RS655 performs best on flat surfaces. The basic design was built for fast sweeping of parking lots and other

broad surfaces. It is a single engine configuration with the impeller (fan) driven through a PTO hydraulic system. This fan drive design is unique in the industry and

enables peak fan speed and vacuum performance at mid-range RPMs of the chassis engine providing maximum performance at an economic cost. The gutter brooms move material into the path of the pickup or vacuum hood from where it is sucked into the debris hopper. The regenerative air design utilizes blast air from the exhaust side of the fan to transfer material across the suction hood and into the vacuum side where it is sucked up and deposited into the debris hopper. Because of excellent debris separation, the fan is isolated from carryover of debris that causes excessive wear on the fans on some competitive units. The initial cost of a regenerative air sweeper is slightly more than a mechanical unit, but costs less to maintain over the life of the unit. When new they all perform well, even on crowned surfaces, but will tend to require intake hood seal maintenance and replacement if your roads have an uneven surface. They perform well with fine or heavy debris and do a good job with the catch basin cleaner attachment option.

The Johnston VT652 and VT802 are chassis mounted pure vacuum units with respective hopper capacities of 8.5 and 10.5. As our other models the VTs carry the same Lifetime Hopper Warranty in addition to a Lifetime Water Tank Warranty, a Five Year Fan Drive Warranty and the Standard Two Year Warranty on the balance of the unit. The VT is the worldwide leader in the number of vacuum street sweepers in service as well as the engineering benchmark for that sector. The step up gearbox fan drive system along with the cleanest air flow from pickup nozzle to top air discharge make for superb efficiency and overall low cost of operation over the life of the machine. A gutter broom or brooms combine with a mid-mount undercarriage broom (transfer

broom) to windrow debris in front of the vacuum nozzle where it is sucked into the debris hopper. Since 90% of debris is generally within 18 inches of the curbline, a gutter broom and vacuum nozzle can be employed to pick up the swept material. Sometimes only a vacuum nozzle is needed. The ability to engage the sweeping components individually or combined allows your operator to fine tune the functions to best suit conditions and maximize efficiency and savings. The VT offers an option for a top mount or rear catch basin cleaning attachment. The top mount design is the safest in the industry, enabling a 270 degree range of operation that allows the operator to place the machine between himself and traffic while cleaning catch basins. The VT is the optimum unit if you have high crowned streets or deep curb lines in your community. A heads up control allows your operator to keep his eyes forward while sweeping and, like the RS, the VT features an automatic body prop system for ultimate safety while dumping for servicing the hopper.

All of our units have a number of options that may be useful for your sweeping program. We keep units in stock and in the pipeline to reduce delivery times. Once you have met with your account manager to determine the best design for your application we can arrange a timely demonstration to assure that you choose the relevant option content, using your budget dollars to your best

advantage. We would like to provide the unit that will serve you best at the lowest cost of operation over the longest lifespan. We are confident that our 35 years of experience in the sweeper business with commensurate parts and service support along with Bucher Municipal/Johnston Sweeper engineering and design expertise will provide what you need for a successful sweeping program.
