As a reminder, this year’s ACT Boot Camp will be held from July 11-13 at Weber State University (WSU) in Ogden, Utah and is completely FREE to students since GEAR UP is covering the cost (a $125 value). As a participant, you are expected to remain on campus and sleep in the dorms for the duration of the event.* If you have a summer job don’t forget to take those days off for the camp and make any other arrangements needed in order to be there. Check-in for the ACT Boot Camp will begin Thursday morning at 7:30am at Residence Hall 1 at the WSU Wildcat Village (see included map). Please eat breakfast prior to arrival. We will provide parking permits for those who are driving themselves. Enclosed you will find the following information:

IMPORTANT PROGRAM NOTES

• Students MUST come prepared to all workshops, courses, and

activities. Coming prepared includes bringing your agenda, notebook, calculator, and writing utensils. You might not have the opportunity to return to your dorm room during the day, so please have any personal items you may need on hand (e.g. medication, feminine hygiene, etc.).

• *Test Day (July 13): You must bring your ACT Admission Ticket (obtained on your ACT web account), an approved form of identification, and approved calculator.

• Create your FREE Shmoop account prior to arrival. Shmoop is a great way to prepare for the ACT Test and it’s FREE for Utah students! Simply create a login using the magic word HIKING on www.shmoop.com/Utah

• Expected behavior at the ACT Boot Camp includes being an active participant, behaving with honesty & integrity, showing respect for peers, presenters, staff, and campus facilities, arriving prepared each day, and following all other expectations as explained.

• Students may not leave the campus at any time during the ACT Boot

Ride the Wildcat Express Shuttle.

All Weber State University parking is by permit only. You can buy a $27 pass and always find a place to park in one of the 3,000 available spaces at the Dee Events Center. The shuttle runs from the Dee Events Center to the bus stop south of the Browning Center and back to the Dee Events Center.

The shuttle operates from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM. The shuttle runs at 5-minute intervals from 7:45 AM to 1:30 PM and every 15 minutes outside of this time frame.

ACT’s calculator policy is designed to ensure fairness for all examinees, avoid disturbances in the testing room, and protect the security of the test materials. Examinees found not following this policy may be dismissed and their tests voided for prohibited behavior.

Examinees may use any 4-function, scientific, or graphing calculator, as long as it is not on the prohibited list and it is modified, if needed. Details are provided below. Calculators may only be used on the mathematics test, including ACT WorkKeys Applied Math. Sharing calculators during the test is not permitted.

Accessible calculators such as audio/“talking” or Braille calculators may be allowed under ACT’s accessibility policies.

Examinees are responsible for:

y Bringing—and using—a permitted calculator.

y Knowing whether their calculator is permitted (for the most current information on the calculator policy, visit www.act.org/calculator-policy.html or call 800.498.6481 for a recorded message containing highlights from this policy)

y Making sure their calculator works properly and has new

batteries, if battery-operated

y Bringing a backup calculator and/or extra batteries, if they

wish, in case their primary calculator fails

Testing staff is responsible for:

y Monitoring during the test to ensure examinees are using only permitted calculators

y Dismissing any examinee found to be using a prohibited calculator during testing

Rules of Conduct

§ Students must follow the instructions of their designated leader and inform such leader of their whereabouts at all time.

§ You are expected to report any accidents, injuries, or illness to your designated leader immediately.

§ If you are found responsible for any vandalism or stealing, you and your parents will be liable for all damage.

§ You may not purchase, bring, consume or be under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs at any time. Violators will be subject to strict disciplinary action and will be sent home immediately at the expense of the parents/guardians.

§ We strongly encourage students not to bring personal electronic devices, however, if they choose to do so, it will be at your own risk. Weber State University, GEAR UP, or the school district will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items.

§ Your high school dress code will be enforced during this trip.
