At the same time last year, AISD had col- lected $2,916,749 (98.38 percent) of$2,964,63I. The completion date for repairs at the middle school is pro- jected for Dec . I. Move-in will take all month and stu- dents are expected to begin the second semester in the new c1ass rooms.The high school and middle school are planning open house for each campus in late January or early February when the new MS campus is functioning.

Victoria Lopez Crowned Homecoming Queen

Halftime ceremonies at the Abernathy High School football included the crowning of this year's Homecoming Queen. Acacia Cantu represented the Freshman Class, Courtney Bowe from the Sophomore Class and Ashlee Ford represented the Junior Class.

She has a long, long list of accomplishments that she has achieved as a student at Abernathy High School ranging from all-year hon­or roll each year to class president for three years. The well-liked student has been selected as class favorite her freshman year as well as claiming many positions in area, regional and all-state bands. Wava Barrick

Services for Wava Barrick, 89, of Abernathy, TX were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 15, 2005, in the Abernathy First United Methodi st Church with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire and Rev. Russ Byard of-ficiating, ' Burial followe services in the Abernathy Cem­etery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mrs. Barrick died at her home Monday, September 12, 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilburn Barrick, October 9, 1995, and 4 brothers, Oris, Cortis, Curtis and Jack. She is survived by 3 sons, Bill Barrick and wife Mar­thaofLeander, TX, Wendell Barrick .and wife Sally of Abernathy, TX, and Ron Barrick and wife Cheryl of Georgetown, TX. She is also survived by 8 grand­sons, Toby Barrick and wife Lynn, John Barrick and wife Susan, Johnathon Todd Bar­rick, James StephenBarrick and wife Phyllis, Jeff Bar­rick and wife Terry, Brian Barrick and wife Melanie, Cody Barrick and wife Carrie, and Chris Barrick and wife Maria, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, F. November 1926 with their four children from Bosque , County. The children included two sons, Wylie and : Arymol, two daughters, Jesse and Lynie and son-in-law Dempsey Daniel Skipper. The Sosebees were engaged in farming for several years in the Abernathy area. Most of the family moved on to other areas ofthe country with D. D. and Lynie remaining inAbernathy where Mr. Skipper worked at the cheese factory and Struve grocery Store. He later farmed northwest of town.

She was employed as a legal secretary in Plain­view and Lubbock prior to her marriage to Hilburn Barrick on September 2, 1939 in Abernathy, TX. She movedtoAbemathyin 1939 from Lubbock. She was a member of the Abernathy Rebekkah Lodge, Open Door Sunday School Class, Abernathy Senior Citizens and the First United Meth­odist Church and she was a former member of the 1935 Study Club,

Beeson, she is very excited to have boys' team this year They did a great job with their second place finish. Beeson said that Jon Cy­pert is running really well. He is determined to make it to reginals and be a real competitor, Cypert came in second with a 19:00 followed in sixth place by Chauncey Parsons. Other Varsity boys included Tal­len Stephenson, Jonathan Mendoza and Oliver Jack-son.

Varsity girls had seven members competing and displaying much potential as they continue to improve. Participants were Shauna Nutt, Shay Stephenson, Jaz­zica Hood, Crystal Natal, Kendall Dunn, Myra Minor and Allison Middleton.

Also bringing home a first place win overall, the eighth grade girls had three of the top five runners with Haley Havens proving to be the one to beat with her 13: 25 . Coming in third and fifth were Courtney Mann and K'LeaMills. Other girls on this team included Kari Wilson, Brittany Cannon, Samantha Pace, Rachel Bounds, Ashley Elias, Lexus Stephenson, Kristen Miller, Tiffani Palacios and Elza Aguirre,

According to coach Kerry Carlisle the girls worked really hard and the hard work paid off in the overall wins. Great job.

"Ideas For Inex­pensive Gifts"

Abernathy residents Sherry Boone, Reggie Knight, Gary Stewart and Carol Williamson will be some of the dem­onstrators at the upcoming "Creative Holidays" event to take place Tuesday, September 27'h in Plainview at the Ollie Liner Center. The day long event is being conducted by the Texas Extension Service. Registration begins at 8:30 AM and Boone, owner of Abernathy Floral Mar­ket will give the first presentation titled "Holiday Door Decorations", followed by Knight and Williamson with "Inexpensive Gifts for Family and Friends".

Later in the day Knight and Williamson will show how to make a pincushion as well as telling you about old and new pincushions, Other demonstrations will include Traditional Rug Hooking, Russian Punch Needle Embroidery and T-shirt Quilts.

A noon luncheon will include a fashion show presented by Bealls Department Store. After lunch there will be Chair Aerobics, Garden Under Glass and a food demonstration entitled "Easy Is as Easy Does". Registration deadline is September 20tl, and the fee is $7.00 per person or $12.00 with the meal included.
