The ABC of Trauma Enhanced

Introduction

The ABC of Trauma Enhanced course is CPD accredited. It is an intensive one day course that will enable practitioners working with families to develop a more in depth understanding of the impact of trauma including adverse childhood experiences in the context of the social and political frameworks that they occur.

This is an enhanced interactive workshop for practitioners who have completed the ABC of Trauma Practitioner – Tier Two Training and wish to further expand their knowledge in this subject.

This training event has been written by Sue Penna our Chief Creative Officer. Sue spent 17 years in mental health work within the NHS as a clinician and manager. Originally trained as an Occupational Therapist, Sue has worked with a trauma informed recovery model all her professional career.

About the Training

The training will explore trauma theory and how the Acceptance of a trauma model offers the potential for recovery. It provides delegates with the opportunity to relate theory to practice through the use of interactive exercises.

It enables delegates to understand that by exploring the Behaviours that result from trauma it is possible to understand that it is ‘what happened’ to the child or young person that resulted in coping strategies that can be destructive to the individual, family and society.

By being Curious as individuals we can facilitate a collaborative culture to promote healing and autonomy. Delegates will have the opportunity to explore models of working and be provided with resources to support trauma informed practice.

"The trauma training has helped the staff think about how they approach and view young people and to consider that everyone has experienced trauma. It gives practitioners a wider understanding of the lived experiences of the children that they work with in order to

understand better the behaviours that are presented are often a physical and unconscious response to this trauma and that

responses and interactions with them need to consider this and be adapted accordingly. This is not necessarily taking an approach that is deemed to be light touch, or without consequence for actions but

with a broader understanding, better advice and appropriate services that are more able to think in a trauma informed way. The

decision making around young people has already proven to be more effective with regards to outcomes for our service."
