The 8th EAST ASIA MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING WORKSHOP

1

Preface

On behalf of the Organizing committee and the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Hong Kong

Polytechnic University, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all participants of the 8th East Asia

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Workshop.

This workshop series has been successfully held in the previous seven years, involving the four top-notch

universities in the East Asia region from Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong respectively. In an effort to

enhance collaborations with sister institutions in the East-Asia area, the Department of Mechanical

Engineering (ME) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU) joined this prestigious alliance

five years ago by participating in the 3rd workshop in Hokkaido University in Japan in 2013. In the following

year, the 4th East Asia Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Workshop was successfully held in Hong

Kong. Now, this event has become part of the efforts that we are making to cope with the increasing demand

for mechanical engineers, a discipline which is regarded as the backbone of the Engineering in the modern

society. Meanwhile, it is in line with the continuous effort that the ME department and HK PolyU has been

making in developing expertise and academic programmes in the field of Aerospace Engineering and

related areas.

I am confident that this workshop will provide an ideal platform not only for academics from the four

universities to exchange ideas and views, but also for research students to mingle together and exchange

their learning and research experiences. Meanwhile, discussions are also expected among four participating

departments to continue the facilitating of student exchange programs in the near future.

We wish to thank all the authors who have contributed papers to this workshop, as well as student helpers

from the ME department of HK PolyU who make this event successful. We also appreciate the sponsorship

and support from the ME Department and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for providing financial

support to this event.
