President’s Welcome to COBEE 2018, Melbourne, Australia
The COBEE conference series was initiated by Tianjin University and Dalian Uni-versity of Technology in 2008. This conference aims to provide a platform for dis-cussing building energy and environmental issues and for initiating collaboration among researchers, environmental scientists, architects, facility managers, and policy makers.
In COBEE 2018, we received over 350 abstract submissions. With the help of inter-national scientific committee through a careful review process, around 200 full papers have been selected and included in the conference proceedings. We thank for your great contribution and professionalism to consider review comments which help significantly improve the quality of papers included in this proceeding. Some of high quality papers will be invited to submit for a further review process and will be selected for publication in topical/special issues in Building and En-vironment Journal, Energy and Building journal, Science and Technology for the Built Environment (STBE), and Journal of Computational Multiphase Flows.
The COBEE 2018 conference will be held in beautiful Melbourne, Australia. Mel-bourne, the most liveable city, for sixth consecutive year, is a vibrant and exciting city with access to hundreds of outdoor recreation activities, fantastic dining op-tions, and an involved and passionate local community that is dedicated to the responsible and effective use of renewable energy and green building practices. RMIT University has been selected as one of Melbourne's most beautiful cam-puses by “The Culture Trip”. Highlights include Storey Hall, the Design Hub, Build-ing 8 and the Swanston Academic Building. The venue for COBEE2018 will be in RMIT's Storey Hall, designed by architects Ashton Raggatt McDougall. It features a large auditorium, and is immersed in an applied tile pattern of spectacular white, green, pink, purple and red panels. The building is described as "Like a piece of fine music, this is architecture to be used and experienced, not simply looked at. Visitors to this building can sense the composition, like a musician resting be-tween chords, before heading back into the chaos of swirling concrete stairs and green sheets of light." -Norman Day (Architecture Australia).
Wish you a memorable stay in Melbourne.
President of COBEE 2018, Jiyuan Tu, Ph.D. Professor, RMIT University

Walking Tour of RMIT Award-Winning Buildings
RMIT Melbourne City campus is located in the cosmopolitan heart of the “world’s most liveable city” and is surrounded by public transport, restaurants, theatres, galleries and parks.
Across the campus you’ll find new award-winning buildings like the Swanston Ac-ademic Building (Building 80) and the Design Hub, as well as several historic buildings, such as RMIT’s oldest building - Francis Ormond Building (Building 1) and the Old Melbourne Gaol (Building 11).
Building 16 (the Storey Hall), where the conference will be held, is one of our most visited buildings remodelled as the iconic Storey Hall in 1995, when it received an ultra-modern extension, featuring geometric-shaped windows and tiles.
You can also enjoy the nearby sites and sounds, such as the State Library of Vic-toria, Parliament House, Royal Exhibition Building to Manchester Unity Building, you will learn about how the city transitioned from a 19th-century port town to Victoria’s modern capital. Please refer to the electronic Program or visit our web-site for more information:
http://www.cobee2018.net/program
• Building 80 - Swanston Academic Building
Swanston Academic Building (SAB) incorpo-rates a range of environmentally sustainablefeatures resulting in it achieving a GreenBuilding Council of Australia 5-star GreenStar Education Design rating.
It has also received a number of state and na-tional awards including Best Public Buildingin the 2014 Property Council of Australiaawards.
COBEE 2018, 5 - 9 Feb, Melbourne, Australia
14
• RMIT Design Hub
Green Building Council of Australia 5-starGreen Star Education Rating. A large numberof Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD)features: high-performance double facade, rain water harvesting, grey water treatment, internal waste management system, buildingmanagement system with direct digital con-trol, low–volatile organic compound (VOC)paints and underfloor air distribution system.
• RMIT Building 1 (Francis Ormond Building)
Building 1 as the number suggests is RMIT’soldest building. It was built in 2 stages be-tween 1886 and 1892. This is a landmarkbuilding of great stature and historic signifi-cance.
The interior planning of the building has beenundertaken on a “best fit” basis where eachroom or space has been closely matched toeach function or use. An adaptive re-use re-tains the best of the original building butbrings it clearly into the twenty first century.
• RMIT Building 11 (Old Melbourne Gaol)
RMIT Building 11 is one of the most distinctivesurviving bluestone buildings from the earlyfoundation of Melbourne. The refurbishmentproject ensured the protection of this im-portant heritage listed building.
The courtyard is a formal urban space withconsiderable presence and becomes a newgathering place for students and staff. TheGaol forecourt becomes a new northern entryspace leading into the campus.
