2. Welcoming Remark by the Chairman / President Prof. Dr Ilias Mamat

All attendees of the 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Management Science / Operations Research Society of Malaysia (MSORSM) are welcomed. The chairman expressed his appreciation to UNISEL for the support in collaboration to organise the MSORSM Seminar in conjunction with 24th AGM. He highlighted on one of the objectives of the Society is to promote more management science practices in the community and conveyed his hope that the Society will have more members with representatives from academic institutions, both public and private universities and industries.

3. Confirmation of Minutes

The Chairman revisited the minutes of the 23rd AGM dated 21st June 2014 which was held in Tunku Aminah Library, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) Parit Raja Johor. There are some corrections need to be amended in the minutes, i.e. the membership fee of RM50 per year, not per month and on the website address is www.msorsm.org. Assoc. Prof. Dr Lee Lai Soon proposed for the minutes to be confirmed and seconded by Assoc. Prof. Dr Adnan Ahmad.

4. The President further reported that MSORSM would be 30 years old by next year as it has been registered in 1986, i.e. 19 July 1986, under its registration number is 3935/86 (Selangor) and it was inaugurated on 5

October 1986. On top of that the Society is the 36th

member of IFORS and the 9th member of COSTAM, of which IFORS has more than 50 country-societies as its members and COSTAM has more than 30 national technological societies.

5. MSORSM’s Annual report (for the year 2014-2015) was presented of which some activities like Society’s collaboration and partnership had been carried out by the Society. Three council meetings have been held throughout the year besides discussions via emails and whatsapp.

6. The report on activities during the years for June 2013 till year-end has also been presented.

7. Financial Report

The Financial report for the year 2014 was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr Lee Lai Soon, the Honorary Treasurer of the MSORSM. The account statement balance as at 31 December 2014 is RM33,738.57. The income for year comes from SORIC’s profit (RM967.81), membership fee registration (RM5,510.00) and interest-deposit from CIMB (RM281.87). Some amount of RM2,280.93 has been spent on administration, such as, the 23rd AGM, IFORS membership fee, and bank charges. The report has been audited by the Honorary Auditors, Assoc. Prof. Paezah Hamzah and Puan Norzaura Abdul Rahman on 16 May 2015. The report has been proposed by Assoc. Prof. Dr Zulkifli Mohd Nopiah and seconded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adibah Shuib.

8. Minutes of the 23rd AGM was proposed By Assoc. Prof. Dr Muhammad Rozi Malim and

seconded by Assoc. Prof. Paezah Hamzah for confirmation.

9. Election of Executive Council 2015-2017

Assoc. Prof. Adam Baharum chaired the election. AGM agreed to appoint the following members as the MSORSM Council members for the term 2015-2017. Assoc. Prof. Dr Adnan proposed Prof. Ilias to remain as president due to the upcoming APORS2015 Conference in August 2015 in Kuching. Assoc. Prof. Dr Muhammad Rozi seconded the proposal.

10. New Executive Council Members of MSORSM The AGM resumed, chaired by the re-elected President, Prof Dr. Ilias Mamat. Dr Ilias introduced the new council members to the audience (i.e. members). On behalf of the new Council members, Prof. Dr. Ilias thanked members for the appointment and the trust given




to continue promoting the Society and its activities and he promised to fulfil the duties and responsibilities.

11. Other Matters

Assoc. Prof. Dr Lee Lai Soon suggested to create a facebook page to collect database on OR practitioners in Malaysia. This is hoped to be able to pull all the resources in a community called OR community.

12. Closing statement by President The Chairman recorded his sincere thanks and appreciation to UNISEL for hosting the MSOR Seminar and AGM. He also thanked those members who had attended and participated in this AGM. He hoped that all elected Council Members and ordinary members in general will work together to support all activities initiated which will benefit the Society and also MS / OR community in the country. He hoped that all members can join the upcoming APORS2015 Conference organised by the Society in August 2015 in Kuching Sarawak.

THE SOCIETY

The MSORSM was registered as a professional society under Section 7Societies Act of Malaysia 1966 on 19th July 1986, under its registrationnumber is 3935/86 (Selangor). It was inaugurated on 5th October 1986.

MSORSM is the 36th national member of the International Federation ofOperational Research Societies (IFORS), 9th national member of theAsian Pacific Operational Research Societies (APORS), and member ofthe Confederation of Scientific and Technological Associations ofMalaysia (COSTAM).

VISION

To be a well recognised body representing, promoting and advancing themanagement science/operations research.

MISSION

To play the lead role for the advancement of a progressive, well informedmanagement science/operations research community.

OBJECTIVESThe objectives of the society are:• To promote and develop the management science/operations research

as an interdisciplinary field.

• To foster the application, wherever appropriate, in the widest possibleexchange of information and ideas on the related subject.

Ordinary Member

• To give awards for outstanding academic or professionalachievement.

• To raise funds and to accept gifts, donations of bequests with aview of furthering directly or indirectly the objectives of the Society.

REPORT ON ACTIVITIES 2015-2016




1. MSOR 2015 and 24th AGM 2015

Seminar in Management Science and Operational Research MSOR 2015 was held on 13th June 2015 in Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) Shah Alam.




MSOR2015 was held in conjunction with our 24th Annual General Meeting. We have elected a new group of council members with the hope that the new members can help the returning members to plan and initiate better platform for our members as the MS/OR society.




2. The 10th Triennial Conference of the Association of Asia-Pacific Operational Research Societies (APORS 2015)

MSORSM has successfully hosted The 10th Triennial Conference of the Association of Asia-Pacific Operational Research Societies (APORS 2015) which was held on 2 – 6 August 2015 at the Imperial Hotel in the city of Kuching, Sarawak in Malaysia with the theme OR and the Environment. This conference has the sponsors and supporters from the Nottingham University Business School Malaysia (of the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus) and Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission, the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS), the Sarawak Convention Bureau, the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak and the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau.

The conference consisted of 76 technical talks spanning the many disciplines of OR with an application towards the concerns of the environment. The conference was launched by IFORS President 2012-2015, Nelson Maculan and followed by IFORS Tutorial Lecturer Peter Lemathe from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany as the keynote speaker who address on OR and Corporate Environment Management. There were 4 plenary talks, bringing together a unique combination of academic and industrial expertise of leading researchers in OR. The first was presented by Stefan Pickl from Universität der Bundeswehr München, Germany on Intelligent Energy Networks and Security Structures (INESS) - Strategic Management, Process Optimization and Visualization of Critical Events within International Resource Conflicts. The second was Eric Sandosham of the Red & White Consulting Partners LLP, Singapore gave a variety of applications in his discussion on Defining the OR Opportunity in Consumer Banking. The third plenary talk by Murali Sambasivan from Taylor's University, Malaysia talked about OR and Sustainable Supply Chain Management, followed by Graham Kendall from the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, who discussed Good Laboratory Practice for Operations Research. The wide range of topics covered in the plenary sessions was reflected in the papers presented by most of the 100 delegates from 21 countries. The theme of OR and Environment was a success with participants planted 150 trees as a contribution to the city’s effort to preserve its environment and heritage.

3. International Conference Collaboration

3.1 COAV 2015

COAV 2015, International Conference on Control Optimization and Autonomous Vehicles was jointly organized by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and MSORSM on 30 July, 2015 and 31 July, 2015 at the Everly Putrajaya.

COAV 2015 was an exceptional Conference that copes with the topics of Control Theory, Optimization, Autonomous Vehicles, Optimization Methods, Signal Processing and Image Processing and much more. The conference gathered 30 participants.




3.2 IEOM 2016

MSORSM joined as technical sponsor for The Sixth International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM 2016) in Kuala Lumpur. Our council member, Prof. Dr Abdul Talib Bon (as the Conference co-Chairman) has been honoured to give the welcoming address.

The Sixth International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM 2016) was organized by IEOM Society, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This unique international conference provides a forum for academics, researchers and practitioners from many industries to exchange ideas and share recent developments in the field of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. Here we have an opportunity to collaborate and advance the theory and practice of major trends in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. With a record number of attendees over 500, this is a venue to have an excellent opportunity to network with the leading scholars and practitioners of the field.

After a thorough peer review process, about 500 papers/abstracts have been accepted from about 750 submissions representing more than 70 countries. The program includes many cutting edge topics of industrial engineering and operations management. Full papers will be published in IEEE Xplore and indexed in Scopus. The challenge of continuous improvement will be significant in the 21st century and this conference will address the issue of continuous improvement for quality and service. Perhaps the most important example of this issue is the current financial crisis facing the world. This crisis represents extraordinary challenges, but it may also represent significant opportunities for future industrial growth and new directions. IEOM 2016 also witnesses the launch of the Women in Industry and Academia panel, chaired by Ms. Resh Plaha. Its aim is to promote global excellence in academic and business leadership as inspired by eminent women of cultural diversity. The IEOM Society celebrates the invaluable contribution by women on the global stage. Industry Solutions Track will address industry needs to survive in the competitive environment. Distinguished practitioners share their experiences and journey to be successful and address industrial challenges and opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability. At the same time three workshops are arranged: Lean Six Sigma, Smart Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship With the great success of Global Engineering Education Series of last IEOM conferences, IEOM 2016 Kuala Lumpur Conference also had a dedicated session for the Global Engineering Education where distinguished speakers discussed the readiness of engineering graduates for workforce around the world. Thirty six featured speakers will be from various part of the world to address engineering education challenges and opportunities. A panel session on Global Engineering Education, chaired by Dr. Abu Masud explores the meaning of global engineering and addressing its educational gap.
