“JOHN”

By Adam Hamilton

All are welcome as we study “John” by Adam Hamilton

this Lent. The Gospel of John is filled with rich images and

profound truths, but John notes that his aim in writing the

gospel is that readers will not only believe in Jesus but, “may have life in his name” In this 6-week study we will follow

the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus through the

Gospel of John and understand the context of some of the

best known verses in the New Testament. At our Lenten services we will learn more as we read along with this book

together. Books are $13.

Spiritual Retreat Saturday, April 18

9:00am- 12:00pm

This women’s retreat will be

held at the church. Come and

be renewed and uplifted.

LENTEN MEALS: Sign-up in the narthex if you would like to provide a meal. The meal can be simply soup & bread.

LENT OFFERING: Will go towards food when Immanuel serves meals for Taco Tuesday or Simpson Shelter.

Message from Pastor Abby

Love, love, love Love, love, love Love, love, love

All you need is love All you need is love

All you need is love, love Love is all you need

All you probably needed to see was the first line before this Beatles song, “All You Need is Love” came streaming through your mind as easily as asking an Alexa to play it for you. What wonderful lyrics have spoken to us throughout the past 50 years to several generations. All you need is love. There is so much truth in this statement, truth far greater than the romantic love that many would interpret this as, but love that is our greatest command as Christians.

When asked, Jesus responded this way as to what the greatest commandment is. “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great-est and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22: 37-40) When we live out these commands to love God and love our neighbor we live out all of the commandments that are written throughout the Bible.

This month as love is in the air and stores are filled to the brim with red and pink hearts, yummy conversation hearts, cards, and floating heart balloons at all the stores, how are we filling the world around us with love?

The Mission Team has several opportunities to love those around our community and the world this month. Would you pack meals with us at Feed My Starving Children on Saturday, February 22 from 9-11? Would you bring in some items so we can make “On the Go Packs” to share with people experi-encing homelessness? Would you be willing to do homework help with the kids at Dayton Park on Mon-day afternoons? More information about these can be found in this newsletter, take a look. These are just a few ways you could share the love of God this month, I’m sure you can think of one of your own too.

During this month of love, challenge yourself to live out your faith a little more by not only loving God, but by loving your neighbor (literally, in the community, or around the world) a little more too.

In God’s Incredible Love,

Pastor Abby

Mobile Hope in the Dayton Park, just down the road from Immanuel, is in need of Homework Help volunteers on Monday afternoons from 4:15-6:15pm. Mobile Hope is new in Dayton and they are creating similar programming to Mobile Hope in Maple Hill Estates. Approximately 300 kids live in the Dayton Park and most of them come from homes where English is not the first lan-guage spoken. They have a great need of help with homework. This is a wonderful opportunity for Immanuel to reach out into our community!

In order to fill all the spots on Monday afternoons we need 4-6 volunteers who can come to help each week. Training will be provided, all that is needed is a willingness to help and share some love with the kids. Contact Pastor Abby if you are interested in helping.

Guess What, Virginia, there is going to be a garage sale at Immanuel this spring!

Start saving your good new or used items.

It will be held on Thursday, May 14 to Saturday May 16th.More details later.
