Additional Student Work

Students chose to contextualize the play by placing it in the Mafia underworld during the Prohibition 1920s. They sourced their own costumes, props, and set locations with coaching from their Design Teaching Artists. MACBETH scenes

were recorded by cast-members (and supportive family members) from their own homes during the spring pandemic shutdown.

We did it! We did Macbeth during the early months of a

global pandemic. We filmed a movie without any actors

sharing the same space. And we managed to stay engaged

with this artistic process as daily stress and confusion occurred

at school, at home, and all over the world.

I cannot express enough how constantly inspired I was by this

resilient group. In person and over Zoom, our meetings were

always full of laughter, respect, and creativity. I hope Henry,

Maiya, Venice, Ty, Lea, Ian, and Sam can go forward feeling

proud of this artistic collaboration, and also proud of the

community that they fostered during a very difficult year.

Thank you all for the hard work and for sharing so much light

in a dark time.

important it was for my sanity

to still have something creative

to work on and to still be able

to interact with artists during

the beginning of quarantine.

It did wonders for my sanity to

still have that outlet.
