SUBMISSION CRITERIA- All submissions must be made by current members of the Grand Valley Construction Association
who are also in good standing with the association.- There are no geographic restrictions for submissions.- Construction work on all eligible projects must have posted substantial completion
(notice of substantial completion published) between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017.- Submissions will be judged by the members of the Building Excellence Awards Adjudication Committee.
The decisions of the committee will be final and are not subject to appeal.- If, in the opinion of the Building Excellence Awards Adjudication Committee, there are no suitable
entries in a particular category, no award will be issued in that category.- All awards will be presented during the Building Excellence Awards gala evening on April 27, 2018 at Bingemans, Kitchener.
Submission Package Requirements
The Building Excellence Awards recognize those GVCA members that apply the higheststandards and best practices to their work in pursuit of construction excellence.
Project narrativeProvide a description of the project scope that explains type of construction,size of the project, contract value, schedule and duration of project, andwhich speaks to each of the judging criteria listed on page 5.Maximum length for each project is 1,000 words.

Your team biosProvide a spreadsheet that lists the names and contact details (phone number, location and email address) of ALL contractors, subtrades, suppliers and product manufacturers involved on the project.
PhotographsSubmit between three and five photographs for each project. The minimum size for each must be four inches by six inches. Digital images may be accepted, but must be supplied on CD, DVD or USB drive. Please include a brief caption for each photo.Note that applicants are responsible for obtaining the rights to reproduce all images.
JUDGING CRITERIA
Our panel of judges scores each nominated project on a points system.Each criteria is equally weighted.Please provide complete and detailed responses to each of these criteriaso that our judges may make accurate and informed decisions.
Safety (20 points)
Comment on the project’s safetyprogram with specific reference to
innovative approaches. Include yourfirm’s CAD-7 documentation.

CUSTOMER/TRADES SATISFACTION
(20 points)Please provide three letters of reference for each
submission. One must come from the projectowner or financier; one from a trade contractor;
and the third from a consultant, supplier ormanufacturer.
Please also provide a complete list of allcontractors, subcontractors, suppliers
and product manufacturers that contributed to the project.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND EXECUTION
(20 points)Describe approaches to personnel
management, quality control, scheduling andvalue engineering.
Particular consideration will be given to thoseprojects where CCA and CCDC standard
documents were used and on which key teammembers (such as estimators, site
superintendents, project managers and safety coordinators) held Gold Seal designations.
TRADE LOYALTY AND QUALIFICATION
(20 points)Describe the process used to award
contracts to GVCA-member trade contractorsand suppliers.
(Note that team members that are not currently GVCA members may apply formembership until April 1st, 2018 to be
eligible to receive a BuildingExcellence award.)
QUALITY OF WORK/COMPLEXITY OF PROJECT
(20 points)Please highlight any particularly outstanding
aspect of workmanship. Include any innovative construction techniques.
Describe project complexity along with any methods used to overcome
obstacles. Also describe any extenuatingcircumstances encountered—and
surpassed—during the project.

project architect, designprofessional, engineer or ownerfor help. Remember to securepermission to reprint these
photos in your submission, andto identify each photo with a
short caption.
