Attention can be paid to chromaticism, layered sections, small melodic fragments, and accented notes. It is a powerful and dramatic program-matic piece written to commemorate President Roosevelt’s Pearl Harbor Address. Realistically, this is a Grade 3 piece and appropriate for a Senior perform-ing ensemble. The piece is very Balmages-esque, the composer has heavy influences and references to his editor’s style of composition. Included are flute and oboe solos, dominant french horn and trumpet intro and fanfare lines - but totally accessible woodwind and brass parts overall. The piece is a series of fanfare and melodic fragments, yet it has a driving direction to a very loud and triumphant finish. Workable char-acteristics are definitely dynamics while maintaining the tonal centre, style changes, and very accented articulations.Programming Suggestion: Festival Closing Selection for a B300/grade 3 performing ensemble - this would work well for a combined/10-12 split as the varying ability levels would be able to pull together for the goal of making music with this piece. 4:30

The melody is quite stunning and the piece is a great opportunity to have the entire band involved in the excercise of musical interpretation.
